Quarterback's Not Sliding

It wouldn't as he played in a game...he would have to sit out next season as well if he transferred within FBS. Unless of course, the NCAA allowed a appeal, which is possible but unlikely.

Gotcha and thanks. I wasn't sure how the rules worked in a case like that.

Still, if they are allowed to slide, then I'd be ready to go in Laramie next year if I were him.

If they are instructed to never slide, and I were his parents, he'd be on the first plane out of Laramie.

I'm sure I'm not the only one... but I really want Coffman to slide this weekend near our sideline. Will someone yank him by the collar straight to the bench? Or will he get an "atta boy"/butt slap on his way back to the huddle? Will he be suspended the next week for an undisclosed "violation of team rules"? Come on Cam, take a slide! Wyonation is begging you!

I cannot CONFIRM or deny this allegation.

There it is.......the old tough guy in me says woooo man up....the older smarter guy says...WTF....

In my original post on Saturday I was upset that Bohl didn't tell him to get down after he got hit the first time OR Bohl told him and wasn't effective enough that he didn't listen. This on the other hand would be stratospheres above that, if true.

Yup. We should start telling option QBs to slide next....

Football is football, all hits are different. One player gets hurt, the other doesn't. It's just how it is.

We need to make sure "everybody" is exempt here, not just QBs. When that 240 fullback is barreling for a td full bore and the only defender is a 5-10 170lb cb. To prevent injury he needs to just let him go by from now on.
The same with a 5-8 160 slot WR. He needs to not try to make a catch when an 250lb LB is targeted in on him...

Stop being a bunch of pansies! Even a QB is a football player.

if true...

I would tend to think that the "code red" would now be called off and QBs will be instructed to slide in certain situations going forward. I would have to believe that this thread has made its way through the various channels.

You mean read me the first time?

Are all points that iterated, and reiterated pointed out or just those that uncomfortable?

Are you the first grader who keeps sticking his hand higher and higher so the teacher will pick you so you can show everyone how much you know?

If our fullback gets hurt on Saturday we don't go down 38-7 to EMU at halftime.

This is the winning argument. I bet if Tom Brady lowers his shoulder on a defender after scrambling for a few yards he's got someone in his ear threatening to void his contract. TOUGH =/= STUPID.

It comes down to padding; d-backs and linebackers have taller and more cushioned shoulder pads than quarterbacks. The mobility that a QB's pad provide also mean that the collarbone is left vulnerable.

Taking a full-on hit on purpose in QB pads is stupid.

This is exactly right on.

Silly beyond belief. When you know your backup qb throws as effectively as a 9 year old girl, you shouldn't have him run at all. But by your logic, I guess we should have the qb returning punts and running suicide on kick offs. We absolutely deserve to be the door mat of college football by hiring not 1, but 2, lower division coaches who are in way over their heads.

Everybodies beloved Brett Smith rarely ever slid, didn't see many complaining about that. So why now? Are we just trying to find something to complain about? Are we just trying to find answers for why we are losing?
I agree that this is blown way out of proportion.

And if the coaches didn't want them to slide, they wouldn't be wearing red in practices. You would want these guys to get hit so they knew how to escape a tackle, or take a hit...

:thumb:

Smith also had the ability to break tackles, be tougher than the LB's trying to tackle him, and still fight for a few yards.

He also got knocked out of a game that cost us a chance of a comeback, and cost us 2 more losses, including bowl eligibility and burning a RS QB his red-shirt season. Maybe he should have slid...

+1 Thank You!

Think guys like Tommie Frazier or Eric Crouch ever slid? They had pretty damn good careers and mostly injury free.
