Quarterback's Not Sliding

The rumor cannot be sumamrily dismissed because people don't want to believe it. The same way that the rumor cannot be established because there is no actual confirmation from an identifiable player or coach (who knows who the person that created a new handle to share this information actually is).

Solution: Media member pose the question to Coach Bohl. I believe that Coach Bohl has the integrity to be truthful.

If Holmgren or Gags does I will be impressed, but I won't hold my breath.

They wouldn't dare. They want access to the program. Ask something that may be off center and you are done. Just like how neither of them asked why a former DB "left" the team this past summer (the piece of shit).

Nothing anyone could post in this thread would make me believe it I just do not buy that they are willing to risk injury to the most important position in the game for a weak ass moniker.

If I heard it from a player or coach I might but otherwise I don't buy it at all.

I'm in the same boat. I need some pretty concrete evidence. I'm not calling anyone liars, but it is a big enough deal, IMO, that the staff should be fired if it were true. Because it is such a big deal to me, I don't want to fly off the handle unless I'm very certain of all the information.

Hopefully the media or someone will seek an answer for this.
Ditto. Second hand or third hand rumors are not enough for me. If jarhead confirmed it, or someone else that we KNOW has direct connections to the team, then I would be in agreement. Short of that though...

Like slowhand?

I can 100% confirm that the quarterbacks are explicitly told NOT to slide and are derided if they do. This "cowboy tough" bull crap got Josh Allen hurt for the season and threatens everyone of them that takes the field.

So many top level D1 programs encourage and even teach their QB's how to slide. It is ridiculous that these coaches have mandated this and should be held accountable for it. Coach Bohl and Vigen should own up to this and take responsibility for Josh's injury. It's their mandate that got him hurt, and they need to change their philosophy.

Really pisses me off!!! I've had it with this "cowboy tough" bull***t!!! Get players in here that can just flat out play football. Tough in football is assumed...it's football for cripes sake. Stop trying to take this crap to another level to try and establish yourselves and somehow set yourself apart from other coaches or programs...Bohl!!!
This is 100% true.

Can I ask you how you know? Is it from a QB's mouth, or from hearing the coaches saying it, or something else?

All I will say is it's first hand knowledge. Normally I would let this stuff stay in house. But, this jeopardizes the health of our current crop and the one's to come, under this staff. I've had enough. It has to change! Someone has to call it to the forefront to be answered and accounted for. Sorry coaches, but you're messing with the kid's futures. Not just football but their potential ability to walk and think properly for the rest of their lives.

That is the problem with a message board is everyone is as anonymous as they want to be. For me to believe it I would have to hear it from a players mouth or coaching staff. Someone saying they are so and so on a board where you can be anyone means nothing.

Well, if someone has to call it to the forefront to be answered and accounted for....then you're the guy.

File a complaint. Name names. Write a letter to the newspaper. Whatever.

If you feel that strongly about it, do something.

I don't know anything about berating or what the coaches are actually saying. I can say with certainty that Ndsu QBs rarely slide. Can't say never..just don't recall seeing it. Brock Jensen rarely had an injury over 4 years, and same with current quarterback Wentz. Not saying its good or bad, maybe the QBs and Bohl have been lucky, or maybe the QBs had better sense of how and when to push it, unlike Allen. It's probably convinced Bohl it works, and really can add the qb as a huge running threat. May not be that wise though.

So I can absolutely confirm its the style of Qb play under Bohl.

There's Cowboy Tough and then there's Cowboy Stupid. If this is, in fact, the policy, the five pieces of Josh Allen's clavicle demand that it change, now.

He can coach the QBs to play any style he wants. It is his team.

True, and he can be fired anytime that UW wants. Again, I need concrete evidence, but if it is true, the entire group should be canned. This isn't FCS and the risk for season or career ending injury is greater. Look it up. There is even a difference between G5 and P5.

If true and we don't fire the staff, then Mr. Allen, you need to transfer ASAP. Get the hell away before you get hurt again. Mr.Coffman, just slide. They won't bench you over it. Take a little razzing but don't risk yourself.

If true, any QB considering UW should pursue any other option they have.

If not true, the person or people who started the rumor should be charged and filed against for libel.

In the end, we'll never know the truth and nothing will happen.

Holy deep end.

Devil's advocate here (I know, really?)...

Do any of you think Dickface told / taught ASScs and Brett to slide when running? This topic has been blown out of proportion a little IMO. If Josh hadn't broken his collarbone in 4 places and needed surgery, not sure this would be a topic even.

Maybe Josh needed some instruction on how to square up for a hit, or to take it high, or something - or maybe it was just a fluke, the direction of the defender, the position of the defender, as it related to Josh's direction, body position, etc.

That safety was planted, Allen might as well have run square into a brick wall.

Coaches call in show is tonight - here is your chance.

As I mentioned above, this isn't anything new...there are just pissed off fans because Josh got hurt (bad). Dickface never told / taught / instructed ASScs or Brett to slide! Imagine if ASScs would have slid instead of stiff-armed that puke from CSewe his freshman year!?!? We would have lost that game.

That is 100% different, He stiff armed on the corner with speed out running the guy. I'm not going to be yelling slide a the TV when ACS or Smith were outrunning someone or stiff arming someone on a corner. But when they are running head first into a defender that could potentially take them out of the game yes I'm yelling slide every time.

I get pissed about it because I know an injury is always lurking around the corner for mobile QB's.

Teaching them to not slide under any circumstance is different than teaching them to slide only when necessary and coaching them on when it is necessary. Wyo2Dal hit the nail on the head.

If it gets out, how many parents of blue chip QBs will want their son in that type of philosophy?

I still need more evidence, but it is kind of a big deal if it is true, IMO.

Having seen the play, I agree, the Safety was planted and waiting...so why did Josh put his head down, lower his body, and hit him (Josh initiated the contact)? Why not spin out of it...why not cut back...why not jump, why not a lot of different scenarios or options?

I guess my point is, not sure this is on the coaching staff, and how they teach (and what they teach) their players.
