QB Aaron Young

Fatiausi looks like a great blocker. He definitely fits the bill for a Bohl guy on the field: big, strong, and physical. He looks like he would make a good fullback.
Looks like he just stands guys up. Could give our running game a chance to be potent. A couple 200+ backs running behind a 255lb wrecking ball.

He looks like he has good hands too for catching passes out of the backfield.

Good receiving and blocking TEs are hard to find, even for teams not rebuilding like Wyoming is. For the time being Bohl just needs to find bodies and maybe instruct some taller WRs to put on weight. If Jake Mauldhart can put on 20 lbs at least to get to 235 lbs, he could do it. There are ways to work around the issue.

FB however....Bohl needs to a good one to help out the porous O-Line, or Wick will be running into a brick wall all season long. A legit FB is a must need. Especially if Young is the QB....sounds very much like he's a game-manager. That's fine....as long as the run game is functional.

Considering Wick had close to 1,000 yards and we only lose one OL starter.....if Bohl can get the Oline to improve just a little, we might find success running. We get DJ May back next year too.

All true...and getting DJ back will be good. But of course...easier to have a somewhat solid run game when defenses have to respect Smith. I could be wrong, but I doubt Young will warrant that kind of respect. The defensive emphasis for opposing teams becomes stopping Wick/May now.

Is this the best Bohl can do? I don't have a good feel about it. Only "medium" interest out of HS from Cornell (maybe he's smart) and San Jose State. Hope Bohl brings in another QB.

Well, the last SJSU JC QB turned out to be really good......but personally....that assessment by the scout I posted tweets from (scroll up) is definitely worrisome. Young sounds very Joe Southwick-ish.

SJSU had offered both Smith and ACS. I think that was about the only offer they had as well

He said in his presser that he's going to sign multiple qb's. This might just be the first qb they recruited that accepted the offer.

It is late in the game and it is the dead period. We'll find out more in a week.

I'm guessing, based on Young's numbers and the fact that he played in an offense very similar to NDSU, that he found the most success in play action. I have not seen a lick of film so a salt grain is in order. The plan will be to make opponents respect the run first. Young's development as a QB is not as important as getting the O line to start grading the road.

That said, it sure sounds like Young got overlooked during the recruiting process the first time around and has a chip on his shoulder over it. Sound familiar? I'll take that kind of attitude at Wyoming all day long. On top of that, the numbers look pretty good, he played on a solid team, he has three years of eligibility, the system fits, he (and his coach) aggressively pursued Wyoming... There's a lot to like here.

Considering our current option is Kirkegaard, Southwick-ish is fine by me.

Look, we aren't going to get a good QB at this stage in recruiting. If Bohl can find someone moderately serviceable (not saying Young fits the bill, I have no idea), then I consider it a job well done on the recruiting trail.

Okay, as quickly as this happened and as closed mouthed as Bohl can be (which is good), I have a theory on this...(If I"m full of crap, just say so..)

Bohl went to Smith in Oregon, told him that things are going to change in the offense. Smith decided to leave early for the draft.

Bohl went to Thompson and told him he's welcome to stay, but again, things are going to change and he's bringing in a Juco that he will have to compete with for the starting position.

Thompson left for Utah rather than be subjected to the "humiliation" of competition and probably loss of the starting position to this Juco guy who would fit the new system much better anyway...

If that was Bohl's approach....essentially running off Smith and Thompson.....the man is a complete idiot.

Just throwing it out there.

But, what if Bohl was just being honest with Smith. Telling him that his stats will drop, more focus on the run. Smith might have figured that learning a new system and having his draft stock potentially drop might not be worth it. I don't see anything wrong in that scenario. I wouldn't imagine the Bohl "ran him off". I would believe he was just being honest.

With Thompson, screw him. He would have pussied out over competition for the starting job. Make sure the door doesn't hit you in the ass on the way out. Enjoy the bench in Utah, because that's probably the closest you'll ever get to the playing field.

Actually, I saw some video, and he does a good job of hitting his guy in stride. Steps up in the pocket, avoids pressure, and doesn't make many bad reads.

I don't think Bohl ran Smith off... He's going to be a 2-3 round pick. Jason Thompson was swayed to leave. Really doubt Bohl told them anything negative to get them out.

I just have a feeling that he let them know his plans, welcomed them to both stay, but they both felt it was time to go.

I can't blame Smith. His draft stock probably would have dropped. It sucks, but it's probably true. Time to cash out.

Young does have good vids. He may not be a runner but decent size and he runs our offense already. He is going to be miles ahead of the other QB's as he already knows the system in many ways. You watch his film, it is like watching NDSU offensively in scheme.

He has three years to play, still has a redshirt year, very good student, very efficient passer with a very good TD/INT ratio, wants to be in a Cowboy playing in the MWC and most importantly he is a mid-year guy!

Guys like Stuart was great for the last staff and the spread. We needed a Pro-Style QB that knows the system, Young fits that 100%!

Didn't quite understand his coming to campus in a few weeks. Isn't he going to start classes this spring? Spring practice, etc..?
