Prepare yourself for another 4-8 Football Season

The season can go 1 of 2 ways. Christensen decides to sacrafice this year and get all the younger kids experience and we go 3-9 or he plays to win and we get to 5 wins. But I'd be very surprised if Christenson gets past 4 wins in the first year. Christenson's plan is to use Wyo as a stepping stone. Coaching at WYO depends on how well you recruit. Glenn is a great coach, terrible recruiter. But its hard, very hard to recruit to WYO. I think Glenn would win 3 more national championships to his current 3 at a place like Nebraska where you can get top talent. Our receivers are just above D1AA quality.

vs Weber State. If we don't blow them out, then it will be a terrible year. This game will tell us if the team is excited about the new system. I expect a bunch of problems and we squeak out a close W. Losing this game means that Dave is not putting any stock into this year and will only get his young recruits ready for the next couple of seasons.

vs. Texas. We are going to get killed. it'll be ugly. 45-10 L Colt McCoy and Texas are on a mission this year after the BS voting to end last year.
at Colorado. I hate the buffs. but L 35-17 This would be an Awesome game if Glenn were still coach but under a rookie coach I expect to be embarrassed. Sucks to play these assholes under a rookie coach. Glenn's teams always played well against the bigger schools... Syracuse, Virginia, UCLA, Tennessee etc..
vs. UNLV A L here means get ready for basketball season. I hope a close win 27-20
@ Florida Atlantic This is a W under Glenn.. New system I predict a L 27-17
vs. New Mexico Close W 24-17
@ AF W 23-20
@utah will we rollover? L
vs BYU will we rollover? L
@SDSU tossup advantage home team... L
vs. TCU they are very good. L
@CSU do we have any pride left? L

The bottom line is until we have any receivers that are D1 caliber then teams will just stack the line and shut down our O. I truly hope the new offensive system absolutely compliments our great defense and we have a truly remarkable season given this extremely tough schedule, but I predict a year where first year coach is planning for the future and getting the young players experience. Which totally sucks that it comes when we play Texas and Colorado.

God I was hoping you had left for good. You truly are an idiot. Three more national championships if Glenn would have coached at Nubb???? You are fucking retarded. Not even Bob Devaney won three NCs there. Osborne won two and shared one in 25 years! I would think that if Glenn would have been able to win three NCs in a few years at Nubb, he could have at least had a couple more winning seasons here - Devaney was able to. It is such a shame that Glenn had to waste all of his coaching talent at lil' ol' Wyoming, when he could have been a Hall of Fame coach elsewhere.

Christensen is proving that if you're willing to work hard, you can get good recruits to come here. He arguably put together a better class in month or so, then Glenn did during his entire stint here. DC was able to get ACS and is in on some highly sought after recruits this year. I could care less if DC is using us as a stepping stone. If he can get us competing for conference championships and grooms an assistant to take over, I would be delighted (it has worked for Boise State).

As long as our D is as good as it has been the last few years, and if the O can cut down on turnovers and put up just a few more points, then we should see a bowl game this year. We have some help coming in at receiver, plus we will get back Bolling and Morgan for fall camp. I see between 5 and 8 wins.

Weber St - W
Texas - L, but it should be closer than pundits think.
@Colorado - toss up, they aren't that good, Mizzou has had their number lately(especially since the switch to the spread offense), maybe DC can bring that mojo here. 2008: 58-0, 2007: 55-10, 2006: 28-13
UNLV - W
@FAU - toss up
NM - W, new coach also, in Laramie we should win
@AF - W, god we owe these guys ever since the non-fumble by Seldon
@Utah - L, should be a closer game than the last couple of times though
BYU - L, they return a lot, but it is in Laramie, possibly could squeak out a win.
@SDSU - W, time to break the curse of San Diego
TCU - L, you never know, TCU didn't fare too well the last time in Laramie, and we should have beat them in '05 (7 or 8 turnover game that possibly was the turning point in the Glenn regime)
@CSU - W, should have won the last 4 games, but Glenn teams always pissed it away w/ turnovers

I am agreeing with your predictions pretty close, but I think we might beat bywho and the sdsu game may be a toss-up with their new coaching staff.

Its all about the offense, if they can't grasp the system well enough to prevent TO's they could end up 4-8.

I think UW will be at least 5-7, chances are they will be 6-6, but they could end up winning more then that too. This is sort of a down year for the MWC. Wyoming isn't the only one rebuilding.(Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah) Also Air Force just lost its starting TB(Kyle Lumpkin) for the entire 2009 season. That is 7 teams I counted that could suffer the same inconsistency.

So who knows?

Maybe the offense struggles to build a rhythm, maybe they don't. 4-8? Maybe. 8-4? Could happen. We will just have to wait and see how Wyoming and everyone else jells throughout the season.

Last season I doubt anyone predicted North Dakota State would take UW to the wire, or that in the same season the Pokes would go to Neyland and beat the Vols. This is why we play the game. :P

Ahhhh...the East Popcorn Shiteater strikes again. So what exactly do we need to do to "PREPARE"? First year coach with limited talent and a brand new system. WTF. I guess you think every first year coach in a similar situation goes 10 & 2? You are a wad.

Be sure to have your happy ass back here next year to tell us to "PREPARE" for 8 & 4.

All of Wyonation knows it? I counted 4 of the 7 regular members of wyonation that don't have a problem. You Miss Peachy however (THE CASTOFF FROM GOWYOGO) are pretty much a running joke everywhere. They think you are kind of a pathetic person and feel sorry for you in a weird way. All of GoWYoGo knows it. :flash:

GoWyoGo...ah...I have nothing against those regular posters, never did really, although the change to pay site wasn't my cup of tea. And glad you counted, but that doesn't mean shit. And neither do you. All you do is spew negativity about everything Wyoming, and honestly, it takes a true asshole to do that. SinclairPoke, is that you? And again, internet tough guy, :finger:

This would be an Awesome game if Glenn were still coach but under a rookie coach I expect to be embarrassed.I must say that I disagree with that opinion. I was terribly disappointed watching the Pokes offense last season and most of the issues I attribute to coaching responsibilities. They were completely lacking in basic fundamentals.
What kind of coaching does it take to hand off the ball to running back 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage, that has no forward momentum what so ever, and hope he can see a hole when the offensive line doesn't even appear to have a blocking scheme? There didn't appear to be a designated hole.
Nobody on offense rarely (if ever) carried the football properly. It was rarely tucked away and cradled against the body.
Clock management was horrendous. At the end of the Ohio game, Ohio should not have even gotten the ball back. Against CSU, 1:30 until the half and the Pokes only used up like 20 secs of the clock and punted, enabling CSU to score a quick 7. And CSU didn't even need to use their 3 timeouts (if I recall correctly).
I saw plays throughout the season trying to be executed that I'd swear that the team had never even practiced before!
In every game but one, (SDSU) in the 4th, I couldn't tell if the defense was completely wiped out physically or just demoralized due to the inept offensive play.
I think Joe Glenn may be one hell of a nice guy and a great rep for the university, but I think he reached his peak at Div 1-AA.
Just one more thought. Does anyone else think that the cameras from the Mtn. channel following the team and filming the practices may have altered the way the staff dealt with things and affected the intensity of practices?
JMHO

While I dont like Popcorn's constant negativity...I actually agree that a 4-8 season is likely. I think we do have a better team, but as everyone knows the schedule is much more difficult. (We got blown out by BGSU last year at home, if we had them at home this year that would likely be one of our easiest games).

I also agree that we just don't have D1 spread offense caliber receivers (I mean a walk-on who transferred from Mines was like our 3rd WR in spring drills). Give DC a few years and we could have a very good team. If DC gets this team to 6-6, then I will be very impressed and ready to announce a future MWC championship!

Preseason publications have the Pokes either 8th or 9th in the MWC, so the pre-publication prediction of 4-8 is probably not far off the mark. Texas will be a blow-out, most likely. I'm guessing 56-7. But the Colorado game just might be a surprise. BYU and Utah - hopeless. Other games have a potential to be close, just based on head-to-head personnel and a stout defense.

Anyone who knows anything about our football team knows that if we can cut down our turnovers, we can compete with anyone in our league. Texas might be a stretch, but it isn't an impossible feat. Thinking we are going to lose to BYU, Utah, and TCU before the season even starts is cowardly.

Go Pokes!!
