Do these numbers look right?

13,000 enrollment x .50 - 6,500
27,000 laramie x. 25 - 6,750
55,000 cheyenne x .10 - 5,500
Inside Wyoming, within 2 hours:
50,000 - Casper x .05 - 2500
15,000 - other x .05 - 750
Rest of Wyoming
390,000 - other x .02 - 7800
Colorado
10,000 alum x .02 - 200

Total: 30,000

More likely
13,000 enrollment x .40 - 5,200
27,000 laramie x. 20 - 5,400
55,000 cheyenne x .05 - 2,750
Inside Wyoming, within 2 hours:
50,000 - Casper x .04 - 2000
15,000 - other x .04 - 600
Rest of Wyoming
390,000 - other x .01 - 3900
Colorado
10,000 alum x .02 - 200

Total: 20,050

I think you make a good point. I would like to say one thing though: What was the attendance of the UW - New Mexico game? That was all Laramie & all student (for the most part) as the roads in and out were closed from about 8pm Friday night, to well past kick off. Anyone know?

Then, let's do some comparisons (how many really come from Casper / Cheyenne, etc.) that thump their chest all the time (and bitch about Laramie & students) but obviously don't have shit for attendance???!!!

I remember growing up in Shirley Basin, between Medicine Bow and Casper, and watching hundreds of cars and trucks going to Laramie from Casper for the games on Saturday afternoon. Now mind you this has been 15-20 years ago and there was a much better product on the field than there is at the moment. But I remember that there would be a steady stream of vehicles traveling 487 in some seriously long caravans. I never counted the cars but I'd say that there were close to 1000 cars or more heading in the direction of Laramie each home date to see the Pokes.

Your number for Laramie includes the enrollment number. Laramie's population is roughly 17,000 residents and 13,000 students.

Seriously?
I'm pretty sure the UW Campus only has between 9-10k students, while the rest are enrolled at different outreach locations in pretty much every corner of the state. That is unless numbers have increased drastically in the past few years.

ok then 20,000 and 10,000 then. point is there are a lot less residents in Laramie than most people seem to realize.

Yeah and the Summit was closed until 11:40 a.m., 20 minutes before game closed, because of an all night blizzard. Hell, 14,000 was amazing considering the weather that weekend.,

Not to mention the 15 F kickoff temperature. Wasn't really that bad, but I was in long underwear, had a seat cushion, and my skiing layers on.

we should average 26K no excuses
I don't see us averaging 26k until we regularly win 11+ games every year. There's just not enough people, and ONE bad weather game will pull the average down a LOT with people just not being able to go. Added to that, there's a lot of people who won't be the least bit interested in going regardless of performance, as they don't care for football.

So I would venture to say, that Laramie (students & locals) provide more than 70% of UW's football attendance (and surely more for hoops).

Hmmmmm...this all points to "win and they will come" then? Casper, Cheyenne, Colorado, sure haven't been showing up like many say / have said lately!

I highly doubt that the 14k for that game came from Laramie. You have to remember that the roads WERE open the day before, so anybody who stayed overnight in Laramie would've been at the game regardless of weather.

Ok...so take away what, 500? 1000?

Just saying...

I honestly don't know - I do know it's very hard to get a hotel room in Laramie regardless of opponent, and Laramie has a LOOOOT of hotel rooms. Average 2 people per hotel room, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least 3k people from out of town at that game. I guess there's no way to know for sure, though.

I just know that Laramie doesn't support the football team as well as some people would like to think. Out of all the people I knew when living there, a very small percentage actually went to games. A large number of people are actually resentful at how much money the football program is getting, completely not understanding how much money they bring in to the university in general, but what do you expect from Fine Arts majors? :P

Easy now. I got my fine arts degree from UW, and I NEVER miss a football game!

There are exceptions to every rule, obviously. ;)
I do have a friend with a fine arts degree from Wyoming that DOES care about football (so unless your name is Travis, there's two of you), but he'll be the first to tell you that most art majors hate the football program and how the games take away parking spaces by the art building on Saturdays, haha...

Ah, now it makes since. Yes, the art majors are a strange bunch. Music majors are also in the FA building, though, and most of us were in the marching band because we wanted the free pass to bowl games. :D
