Pokes @ Zips Game Thread

Here's a weird stat, Bohl, sans a couple years, averaged around 31-35% 3rd down conversion compared to 45% this game. Yet, Bohl still managed almost 16-18 first downs/game (19 in this one) with fewer plays. He also had about 3 red zone opportunities per game versus 2 in this one. Bohl ball was predicated on 1st and 2nd down success.

Getting to the red zone has been a struggle for a long time. The 2016 squad averaged 4 red zone trips per game.

Is it possible that averages for Bohl ball hide something about those teams? What I mean by that is....there are kind of two versions of Bohl Ball...the good one and the bad one. Obviously, his first two years are the bad version but it cropped up again in 2018 and 2020. Now..it's not like the good version was knocking it out of the park or anything, but it was more efficient than the bad version right? What were Bohl teams 3rd down conversion averages in wins vs losses?

While I don't think any team is a "given" for Wyoming, I am happy that we opened against Akron followed by Northern Iowa. Although we have had some luck in the past, opening against top 25 teams and beginning the season 0-1 or 0-2 has to be emotionally tough. Wisconsin has made a tradition of playing the Blind Sisters of St. Penelope every single year and is both ranked and 2-0 before any real challenge. I really like the thought of not being a "losing" program until the 5th game of the year and getting a chance to ramp up. Alternatively, think about the mental aspect of not being a winning program until the 5th game if you go 0-2.

I thought our program looked good last night. How I found it on YouTube and watched live...still can't figure it out. But I think we win next week and I think we play Utah with some confidence.

Kaden was 19/36 for 260 yards. Area for improvement? Sure. But there's been plenty of years where we would have had a parade for that kind of passing performance.

The Pokes are coming off a 3-9 season and just went on the road and beat another bad team. I'm not saying we're winning the conference - but we're acting like we eeked out a win over an FCS team at home.

Wyoming was unquestionably the best team on the field tonight, even if the score doesn't show it.
Very misleading stat line. How many of his completions were more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage?
Frankly, if we have even mediocre qb play last night, we score at least 24 points. I was actually thinking we might have to burn Drube's red shirt is this continues. He had a clean pocket all night and he missed one receiver after another. With his limited running ability, that just isn't going to fly.

Next man up would be Sims.

I went back and watched the game again because some posters seem to think he had a decent game. I came away feeling even more pessimistic than I did when I watched the game live. He missed a lot of throws. He also looked super uncomfortable in the pocket.

I found myself almost wanting him to take a hit so he could get it over with and just play football. I obviously don’t want him to get hurt, but you can’t be a successful quarterback if you are constantly scared to take a hit.

I’m hoping he is much better against UNI.
