Pokes sending 6 to the NCAAs!!!

Chaz Polson received an at-large bid! I am actually really surprised but this is great for the team because he could win a few matches at the NCAAs if he wrestles like he has shown at points this year.

Qualifiers: Bridges, Meredith, Turner, Colgan, Ashworth, Polson

This is really cool. We had a great year in wrestling. Whats the most we have ever sent in a year? Go kick some butt pokes!

Feel bad that Pope didn't wrestle well at the Big XIIs. If he wrestled to his potential he would have qualified.

Definitely becoming a premier program. If we can consistently qualify 6+ and have some all Americans we could be right in the thick of things. Hopefully we can hang onto Branch.

6 is the most I’m aware of. I believe it was 2014-2015 the Pokes also qualified 6.

Branch is a tremendous coach. He turns relatively under recruited guys into studs. Hard to say we are a premier program when our recruiting classes are not the strongest on paper. On paper the recruiting classes of Wyoming have been relatively similar to Northern Colorado, yet Wyoming is a much much better wrestling program.

We're not there yet but we keep showing out like we are, kids will want to wrestle for Wyoming. I'm sure several already do, but success is the first part of the battle of creating a premier program.

I think we'll see another year or two of improvement as far as recruiting, especially if the success continues. Being in the big 12 should help..granted that helps teams like UNC as well

E-and to aranderson, I get the feeling the only place we might lose branch to for a while is OK State when Smith retires. I think we're safe as long as he's there

I saw that McKenna won the Big 10 final 13-0. He really is wrestling well right now. Bryce is going to have to wrestle up to his full potential to place highly, let alone win it all. 141 is stacked. I think 165 would be the other weight that may rival it in all around competitiveness.

This is an understatement, you've got Heil, the 2-time defending national champion, who likely won't even be seeded in the Top 4. There are 6-8 guys that could win this weight and it wouldn't be much of a surprise...crazy deep this year.

Couldn't agree more. I've said it in multiple threads that 141 is the deepest weight class this year (and perhaps in a number of years). I am hopeful that McKenna will get the #2 or #3 seed and remain on the opposite side of the bracket from Meredith.

Before the seeds come out, here is my best guess at 141
#1 Bryce Meredith
#2 Joey McKenna
#3 Jaydin Eierman
#4 Yianni Diakomihalis
#5 Kevin Jack
#6 Dean Heil
#7 Mike Carr
#8 Nick Lee

All 8 of these guys have the talent to be National Champ. Meredith's only loss came to Yianni Diakomihalis...I would love to see this potential rematch in the semi-finals (or Kevin Jack v. Bryce Meredith round 12!!). Whoever wins this weight class should be outstanding wrestler of the NCAA Tournament. Come on Bryce!!

Wow this is tough

141:

#1 Bryce (clear #1)
#2 Eireman (Beat Yianni, lost to Heil and JAck?)
#3 Diakamopolis (beat Bryce, a couple bad losses)
#4 Jack (beat Eireman)
#5 McKenna (has he beaten anyone good?, wrestling well)
#6 Heil (not sure who he's beaten, some bad losses)

Jack lost to an unranked wrestler at the ACC championships. I feel that he will drop because of that. McKenna is a former All-American with only one loss and has been destroying opponents this year, that's why I think he gets a high seed.

Meredith has one loss - to Yianni.
Eierman has one loss - to Meredith. He beat Jack.
Yianni has one loss - to Eierman.
McKenna has one loss - early season to Thorn of MN.
Heil has beat none of the top guys this year but has in the past. (losses to Meredith twice, Jack and 2 bad losses)

McKenna gave up 0 points in the Big 10s. Don't know who he wrestled off the top of my head but that is crazy

141: Meredith #1 gets Colton Schilling of Cal Poly (15-4). Eierman of Mizzou is #2, Yianni of Cornell #3, McKenna (Ohio State) is 4, Dean Heil #6.

149: Sam Turner will face the #16 seed Bannister of Maryland, if he wins would go up against #1 Zain Retherford of Penn State
