Things the MWC NEEDS!

1. UNLV to continue football rise.
2. The remaining collective to get off their ass in football. NIU needs to step up big. WYO needs to get our shit together and it would be fantastic if the sleeping giant of SJSU would wake up. Obviously the rest are important as well but a strong Midwest, Mountain, and West Coast presence would help a lot.
3. UNM needs to take the next step in bball. GCU needs to show they can be a force and UNLV needs to return to their old form. Honestly, I'm not holding my breath on the others but we need a 3 headed monster in bball.
4. Strategic ooc scheduling but must win!
5. Strategic expansion. Honestly, looking to shore up the big midwest/west gaps warrants investigation. No fbs teams in ND, SD, or MT. If you look at nfl viewership or fan estimation, the Dakotas, MN, etc. rank highly. I don't know but I think filling that gap in us geography may have benefits that go beyond tv sets in the town the university resides. The Bison should be immediate if the court case goes well and we can help with the transition.

The next 6 years are critical for the MWC's future.

WYO needs to get our shit together
Competitively or facilities?

Competitively is asking a lot when our major sports are generally mid to lower level conference performers. But, our facilities are nice yet they don’t seem to produce the desired results in the W-L column.

Competitively for football. I sort of disagree on asking a lot. In 2026, our ooc is north TX, northern co, central Michigan, and uconn. Conference games will be AF, HI, NIU, SJSU, UNLV, UNM, UNV, and UTEP. The next year is the pretty much the same except a tougher Utah team replaces uconn. 2029 will be slightly more challenging with Tech and the return of the Border War in OOC.

Either way, I'll bet 2026 through 2029 will be the weakest sos in a 4 year stretch in WYO football history.

I'm serious. If we can't win a conference championship in that stretch, it's time to pack it up. WYO has to take advantage of the schedule and build a nice 4 or 5 year run of a lot of wins.

Just can’t help but to think of the 4-0 start in 2021 with a weak OOC only to go 2-6 in the MWC expecting a solid season.

Will agree that this is the time to pursue a conference championship and I like that Sawvel has at least talked about having quality quarterbacks who can actually throw a forward pass - something Bohl found a way to avoid at all cost once he was free from trying to contain Allen.

My first measurement is an expected dominant performance at Akron where I will be one of the 4,999 spectators. If Wyoming loses or in a Bohl like manner barely ekes out a win I will be unlikely to pursue attending any additional games. I just happened to be in the area at the end of August and arranged a couple of extra days to witness in person if Sawvel was able to correct the glaring deficiencies.

I think it's time...to pack it in that is. I've been consistently wrong that Wyoming sports were a year or three away from glory for the last 20 years. Maybe I'll continue to be wrong. I think we'll look back on this era and say that the programs have been dead for some time and that the NIL and Conference realignment stuff put it firmly in the ground. I just have no good feels on any of the fronts that I used to have.
