Pokes find 12th game next year

Too bad Burman insisted on a home game. Colorado is looking for a home opponent Sept. 10. That's "almost" a home game for Wyo, since it would draw fans from the Denver area. Also would have
given the program more creds and and a fat paycheck. No guts, no glory, Burman.

Probably not that strong. I think they got a new coach. Also for those of you who thought we should schedule more like SDSU does...Here you go. This is the most pathetic line up I've seen since 96.
Seriously!
Weber St. 6-5 (FCS)
Texas St. 4-7 (FCS)
@BGSU 2-10
Nebraska 10-3
Utah St. 4-8

Sorry, but I'm not going to say this needed to be done until I see how the rest of the MWC teams fared with their extra game slot.

What would you prefer it look like? I think this schedule looks good for our team next year. I would have preferred another FBS game because I hate FCS games, but life's not perfect. Our team is coming off of a 3-9 year and we weren't even close in many of our losses, you think we need a tougher schedule?

I would have liked to play anothe fbs school even if it is on the road. Basically one of the fcs games doesn't count for our record (yep might make sense money wise, but we would make more money playing a fbs opponent on the road).

Will play FCS Texas State. Pokes will need to win 7 to be bowl eligible next year.

Sorry, but I disagree. I believe "need to win 7 to be bowl eligible" is a common generalization.

Everything I have read on the topic says that only 1 FCS win will count towards your 6 to be eligible.
While it sounds like the same thing it is not. If we win 5 FBS games but only 1 FCS game I believe we are bowl eligible. If we win 6 FBS games but no FCS games I believe we are bowl eligible. I have seen the rules written out then directly conflicted with the "7 win" generalization right after it, but I have yet to ever see that "7 wins" are necessary within any language of the rules.

Sorry, hate to be a stickler, but I would really like to know the rules and while I feel I know them I keep seeing this generalization and would like clarification.

I know you all are going to say, if we lose to an FCS school we shouldn't go bowling anyway, but I would still like to know the truth.

O.K. We need to win 6 games against I-A schools (I HATE the FBS/FCS Crap) but if you beat a I-AA school it can count towards your 6 wins against I-A schools but only one can count, two won't.

However Arizona State just went 6-6 on the year but played and beat 2 I-AA schools. They tried to get a waiver on the bowl rules but got rejected.

You are right... and wrong... maybe? We would have to win 7 games to be bowl eligible, but that's assuming we win both FCS games. But you're also correct in stating we could split the FCS games, win 5 FBS and still be eligible. And also correct that we could lose two FCS (god forbid) and win 6 FBS and still be eligible.

Saw Texas State play a game in 2008. They fought hard the whole time. This year they finished 4-7. They beat Southern Utah at home 42-28. That's the common opponent they had with Wyoming this year.
They upset SFA 27-24 at SFA, a 9-3 playoff team. In that game they began the 4th Q down 24-0, but won 27-24.
Wonder how strong a team Texas State will bring next season. I would not overlook any opponent.

As a Bobcat fan, I can say we should have the talent to have a pretty solid FCS team. Although we will not truely be FCS either, as this recruiting class we are adding 11 of the additional 22 scholarships that FBS teams have.

We will be returning our starting QB who we didn't have for most of our conference schedule, because of injury. And he will be improved, as he was a true freshman this year. And at RB, we will have Marcus Curry the transfer from Navy as well as Dexter Imade a freshman this year who was our #2 RB this year. At WR, we might or might not have back our leading WR (depending on if he gets a medical redshirt), but the rest of our receiving corps is returning. Our OL is returning all but one member, and we are supposedly looking at bringing in several JUCO OL recruits. As OL depth was a big issue for us this year.

On defense we are losing 4 starters, but only 2 full time starters. And will be getting back one of our top DL, who didn't play this year because of injury. And our defense had several freshman and Sophomores getting significant playing time or starting for us last year. So the defense should be improved yet again.

Screw CU until they agree to a return trip to Laramie.
