Pokes find 12th game next year

Will play FCS Texas State. Pokes will need to win 7 to be bowl eligible next year.

No shit. I know another home game is why we are doing this, but I can't see how this helps us. If you can't find a home game against a d1 teamd then we play a road game. I am sure a mac or sunbelt team would be willing to pick up a home game against us. Another reason why Tom b sucks as an ad.
 
Plus we'll need to win 7 games next year to go bowling.

I'd say FIRE Burman and get a guy with a brain and guts.
 
Pokes needed a home game, and being they had an open in 2011, they had to schedule FCS as this is as last minute scheduling as you can get. Schedules are made way in advance.. sucks, but it had to be done.
 
I wonder if Burman tried to find a D1 opponent for the end of August and let the Sept 10th date be a bye?
No, I guess I don't have to wonder, since I don't think Burman tries much at anything. Things were going downhill. Now they are accelerating going downhill.
 
He had to get this done quickly, so this was probably the best option. He did make sure that they won't play again until Texas State is FBS.

Exactly, it isn't like we had a lot of choices. Plus, it gives us another winnable home game.

I actually kinda like this. We start out with games we should win. Starting the season strong is always good. Definately better then the schedule we had to play to start out this past season.
 
then we should also look at a thirteen game schedule (didn't boise do this in 2009?) and play a sunbelt or Mac team at their place. Get paid and get another win and I hope our admin looked at this as a possibility.

Only way you can play 13 games is to play at Hawaii.

In 2009 Boise State had a WAC game @ Hawaii and therefore was allowed a 13th game.
 
Saw Texas State play a game in 2008. They fought hard the whole time. This year they finished 4-7. They beat Southern Utah at home 42-28. That's the common opponent they had with Wyoming this year.
They upset SFA 27-24 at SFA, a 9-3 playoff team. In that game they began the 4th Q down 24-0, but won 27-24.
Wonder how strong a team Texas State will bring next season. I would not overlook any opponent.
 
Probably not that strong. I think they got a new coach. Also for those of you who thought we should schedule more like SDSU does...Here you go. This is the most pathetic line up I've seen since 96.

Texas St. 4-7 (FCS)
@BGSU 2-10
Nebraska 10-3
Utah St. 4-8

Sorry, but I'm not going to say this needed to be done until I see how the rest of the MWC teams fared with their extra game slot.
 
7-5 is a lot to ask of next years to go bowling. Really don't know what to expect. Going from 7-6 to 3-9 over one year definitely does not suggest 2011 will be a good season. Why Burman put UW in a position to have to win 7 games to go bowling is beyond me. Like others have stated, there was nobody else available? When does FAU come to Laramie? Could that have been moved up a few years?
 
I'm guessing this was the best option available. Most teams have there schedule already filled out. Im sure Burman would have gotten us a winnable fbs game if he had his choice but probably wasnt anyone available or if they were it was going to cost us a lot to bring them in since we were pretty desperate with the late timing. Overall i say its a good job to get this scheduled. I dont see any reason we cant go 7-5 next year.
