No, you're reading me wrong. You're ready to hand over the starting job to QBs who have not exactly been good, at all, while disparaging QBs that we already have that were rarely given the chance to develop under the previous coaching regime. You readily throw them by the wayside, partly because they were underdeveloped and partly because they haven't had much experience playing Div 1. But as soon as a failed QB announces he's looking to transfer for the 3rd time, you're ready to crown him the starter simply because he has experience. What you fail to look at, is at everything else. Their records suck, their decision making is poor, their ability to run is non existant (an ability you yourself have been demanding), and their arms aren't exactly cannons either.
Basically, going by the way YOU judge our current QBs, Heaps and Thomas are basically experienced Kirkegaards that are slower and have already proven they cannot win at the Div 1 level. THAT'S my problem with your "opinion".
How many wins does Kirkegaard as a QB have at a D.1 school? 0
How many wins does Thornton as a QB have at a D.1 school? 0
How many wins does Stratton as a QB have at a D.1 school? 0
How many wins does Young as a a QB have at a D.1 school? 0
So, you're reasoning comes from 2 being backups and rarely getting to play, 1 being on the practice squad, and the other a recent transfer and lump them all together? We had Brett Smith, yes, and we could ill afford to take him out because we didn't have much else. Tha's on the previous staff. Kirk was never developed, and from everything I have heard, he's leaps and bounds better than what he was before Bohl and company got here.
How many QB jobs have been won by these 4 QB's at a D.1 school? 0
And there's your "experience" BS again. Heaps transferred a couple times, and now so has Thomas, yet both proved that they could not get the job done when it mattered. Hell, in one of our worst years, we beat Thomas 44-0. "QB jobs won" means shit when you look at their record.
You are the one saying that we don't need anyone else to compete with these guys!
And all you're doing is looking for a quick fix that won't last beyond year that would, by those two QB's records, be abysmal.
Talk about someone that fails miserably to read thoroughly what others write, that is YOU! Where did I EVER say that these guys (Thomas or Heap) simply because of their past experience should be given the starting QB job at Wyoming? I NEVER said this and I never even hinted it!
You've alluded to it several times in this post alone! You go by that they won a game or two and won a QB starting job in every post! And when their records are pointed out, you attack those people and try and make it look like Heaps and Thomas would be awesome!
You are the one that doesn't want anyone else to even come in and compete with the 4 guys now on campus (other than the 2 freshmen coming in).
Why do we NEED more than 6 scholarship QBs, especially when 2 of them will be graduating and those transfers would as well. And you're only looking at a quick fix, a bandaid on a gaping hole in a dam right now. Our o-line is still porous at best. Use the guys we have this year. Throwing a random transfer that doesn't have a winning record in there and expecting to win is stupid. 6 QBs is already pushing it. And honestly, I'm expecting a rough transition year or two and not looking for a quick fix, because those don't work and rarely build up for better things. But you're looking at two QBs who, throughout their careers, lost games, or only had wins despite what they themselves did.
You talk about the "failure" of Heap and Thomas (who isn't coming to Wyoming of course)....but they have MORE success than all four of the QB's who played Spring ball at Wyoming in total! I see that you are good at making excuses...."rarely given the chance....". Kirkegaard had EVERY chance in the book to show what he was able to do in 3 years, the flat out fact was that he isn't close to the QB that Brett Smith is, another fact that you hate to admit is true. T. Thornton wasn't on campus that long before DC left, but Stratton was and he had every chance to show what he was capable of as well. Your making excuses for these guys failures of winning the starting QB job at Wyoming is lame. How about supporting the program instead of the player?
I have never made the QB situation out to be a good one once Brett Smith left and Thompson ran to Utah. What I HAVE been saying is that according to how Bohl runs his offense, and how many West Coast offenses are run, you normally do not need a great QB like Brett Smith. What you need is someone who won't lose you any games. If he can you games, even better.
And Heaps and Thomas only have more "success" (if you can call it that) is because they actually played in more than one game. With Kirk at the head under DC, I think we could have gotten 3 wins like Thomas has. Stratton could have transferred and whined like Heaps has, but instead he's stuck it out.
And we'll be lucky to EVER have another Brett Smith. That's another thing you gloss over. Brett Smith was grossly underrated and underrecruited and had to do a lot of developing on his own, luckily he was invited to the Manning Passing Academy and got to work out with guys like Drew Brees.
I sat in the stadium and watched the Spring game and frankly not one of the QB's was truly impressive, as none of them took charge of their squad. Thornton was the most successful through the air, and Stratton was the most successful on the ground, and that is frightening! It really appears that you are pulling for specific guys instead of the program and luckily Coach Bohl DOESN'T think like you, and I feel it is so great that you ignore what Coach Bohl says about the progress of the QB position and I guess you know more than he does.
Luckily Bohl doesn't think like you either, or he would have thrown a scholly at two QBs who have proven they cannot win simply because their teams somehow gotten a barehandful of wins inspite of them over their college careers.
