P12 - MWC

My biggest concern is what kind of media deal the MWC is able to secure (long term) without the traitors. Specifically, what will UW’s share be from the MWC pie?
The latest rumors peg the pee12 media deal as high as $65 million a year. That would be about $7 million per team for 9 full shares. If they add more than one full share member it dilutes. Still a workable number for them if true. Anything less than $60 million starts putting them in a not as beneficial category.

The MWC was just short of $4 million per team and with the loss of the traitors it probably won’t go up much if at all. My guess is the MWC can expect $36-45 million per year at best for a $4-5 million per team payout. The more $$ obtained now the better because if the CFP expands the MWC better already have as much of the pie contractually as they can get.

What is key in this is the $7 million per team is what is needed in the pee12 to make the move financially feasible which is exactly why the MWC better not concede the exit fees the traitors wrote and voted on themselves which are $90 million. The MWC needs the number to collect at the $100+ million which would be basically no less than 69%. I would like to see a minimum of 75% collected for around a $109 million infusion. That would make the MWC original 7 fare very well. And, at a $4 million media payout (less for football only NIU??) the new members are still ahead of the MAC/CUSA.

There will be the legal fees, new member recruitment fees and some other things which will reduce the maximum distribution numbers. Hence an extra $8-9 million above the $100 million figure is a good start.

What we do know is the cost to get Texas State doubles to $10 million July 1. We already know the $145 million is being mediated and the traitors made the exit official to avoid exit fees doubling to $180 million.

Another thing to think about - why did Gonzaga go pee12? Travel - no. The real motivation is the likelihood they would continue to win in the pee12 and continue to be an NCAA tournament contender for a bigger paycheck than the WCC.

As ragtime points out - there may be nothing much in the future. All we can do is go with the here and now. IMO the MWC needs a serious collection of the exit/poaching fees to soften this round of conference shakeup.

And after the dust is settled, the only way the future could be rewarding would be winning championships. No more 6-6 Arizona Bowl appearances being considered a success.

YES!! The poor me WYO narrative is finally deceased as it relates to MWC championships in any sport that WYO sponsors. R.I.P. I'm sick of that crap.
Finally .. Out from under the thumb of CSU! Not to mention the expectation that we would be able to compete with the powerhouse USU.

All kidding aside .. It is now more important than ever that Wyoming not merely "compete" in what Lander so eloquently described as "dog crap".... We have to dominate

To the “just win” folks, I agree.

However, I want to win something meaningful. Winning a MWC championship would be electric, but that still puts us in a snoop dog gin and juice bowl or something in the realm.

Would this group be happy if we win our conference but get left out of the playoff?

Honestly, that is the best we can hope for. No way CFP lets UW in. There is no money in that.

Yes. I would be ecstatic with a conference championship and Snoop Dog bowl bid against the 4th place, 7-5 MAC team. I haven't seen a conference championship yet. Even if its in a watered down MWC 3.0. Gotta start somewhere and man, is it LONG overdue. Would I prefer something more meaningful? Of course. But our first outright conference title in close to 40 years would be plenty monumental.

I definitely want something more meaningful. Winning the conference that doesn't have CSU in it is better than finishing 3rd but part of what makes college sports great are those rival relationships. It will not be the same if Wyoming wins the conference without feeling the enjoyment of seeing us ahead of those historic rivals in the standings.

From a historical standpoint, it does diminish it if it's at a "lessor" level...particularly for long time fans. But it would still be an accomplishment worth celebrating...particularly for the players/coaches involved. I don't care if you are a Div III or NAIA or whatever....a chip is not a given. I can respect the talent and dedication that it takes to get it done regardless of the level.
