OT: Missouri Football players on strike

Not getting into the controversy at Mizzou, but can you imagine if the FBS players got together and demanded something or none of them would play on a Saturday?

Very interesting step taken by the Mizzou football team that almost certainly will be a template for future "demonstrations" by college athletes.

Honestly, though, I haven't followed closely so I could have missed something. Either way, if they started a Facebook or Twitter movement to not play unless x was done, I don't think that would fall under collective bargaining.

Any group of employees, students or student-athletes can just say we aren't showing up until X changes.

No law against that. In fact, you couldn't even make a law against that.

I don't think anyone said anything about collective bargaining (for the purposes of this threat at least). The point was that if a large portion of a football team, or the entire team decide to strike, they would probably force some change fairly quickly. If Missouri for some reason had had to cancel their game this week, they would have had to pay byu $1 million.

Now striking like that has consequences, the school could take their scholarships away for not fulfilling their side of their "contract", but I doubt any school is going to want to threaten to drop half of their team's scholarships...a self-imposed SMU??? Not likely.

The youth have been handed participation ribbons for years, their parents are lil kids raising kids that we're allowed to get away with anything.

It's a disaster, mixed in with the social media piranha's and mouthing off so freely.

Obviously there are a LOT of difference with the two, but I notice how Pinkle stood by his players where Eaton didn't.

In my humble opinion, Eaton was wrong and his decision to throw his kids under the bus was the impetus behind Wyoming going from a football power to a football joke. I remember just how divided the University was after Eaton kicked those kids to the curb. Here's a pretty informative article about the Black 14. By the way, good for Pinkle to back his kids.

We discuss this ad nauseam, but I still fail to see why in the hell anyone blames byu for the Black 14 incident.

I've said it a thousand times, but we can't control byu's policies, but we could control our response. Right or wrong, we chose our response and did it to ourselves.
