Opening Night: Weber State

If UW gets up, say 3 scores (17 points)...it could go either way:

1. We either settle into the possession / protection game, and let them back in the game (final score close)
2. We stomp on the gas and polish the machine (a complete blowout).

I am hoping for option 2.

Since we went with option #1 the last time we played them (two late bombs away td's for Weber), I'm thinking we should put the pedal to the metal.

Go Pokes!!

+1, that is one thing the CDC has over Cowboy Joe Glenn, CDC has a heavier foot per say. It always seemed that Joe would let off the gas a little early and let teams back in it. ie TCU '07, Weber, just to name a few

Tiller had the same problem at times.

weber wont be as good as '09 is probab an accurate estimation. what about wyo? how does this yr compare to that yr? better/worse/?

Far better in comparison. In 09 we had no RB's to speak of coming in that year. This year we have returning starter and depth. 09 we had no top notch WR coming in. Leonard became the man. Have depth and big play potential in Ogbanna, McNeill and a few TE's. Smith is in my opinion better than ACS or Benjamin.
09 DL was good. 11 DL should be about the same. LB's just as good as 09 if not better. CB's about the same, SS's about the same. K's should be about the same also. OL is yet to be determined. But i think we are better there also than we were in 09.

Pittser is redshirting. Will only see the field if the other two quarterbacks suck huge balls.

I don't think we will have a problem running the ball against them, at all. AA is good. But hell, all our rb's are as talented a group to hit laramie in a long while. seldon, moore, davis. I think AA, Miller, Sutton are just as capable, and in a more balanced offense. the addition of rushing, self, and strong anchoring the guard spots will enable us to open better A gaps.

If weber does stack the box, our receivers will get open. Not sure how our line will handle the blitz, but from scrimmage notes, it sounds like our number 1 line and smith didn't get beat to hell.

Weber st has a good oline. definetly their team strength. the have a ton of talented rb's too. But it plays to our team-strength. the 4-3, with talented ends and speed at the outside linebacker position.

I think smith will put up over 200 yards passing. Consistent. His height and ability to find short routes quickly should help limit turnovers. I think the team hands have improved since the 09 season when we couldn't catch a cold.

I don't predict scores. But, I think this offense will be "significantly" improved. Like 100-150 more yards per game than our average over the last few years.

your 09 was a pretty good team, 7 wins i believe. you guys are thinking more than 7 wins or just that team would get beat by your 2011 team?

weber really should have won that game, yikes we threw like 7 picks and lost by 7, what an embarrassing game.

my prediction is a close game in score like last time. there is no way this will be a blow out. our last non-bcs fbs team that blew us out was boise in 2007 and we play 2 fbs a year but we wern't very good in 07. we were down like 80 to nothing in the first quarter. :yikes: i just need weber to beat utah st.

Eh... a couple 4th quarter bombs against our 3rd string. That game was nowhere close to what the score shows.

Still though........FCS school + 7 INTs should = clown-stomping their asses. A 7 point win is unacceptable, especially considering Wyoming only beat SUU by 7 as well and NDSU by 2 a few years back. Wyoming should be clobbering these FCS schools.

Our '09 team was scrappy. If it weren't for a couple gutsy 4th quarters '09 would look a lot more like last year. Our D was amazing in the bowl game.

Depth and skill at every position has definitely improved IMHO.

I will say that a couple of our losses last year baffled me... But its in the books so the boys need to prove it on the field this year if they want to show the upswing we all are hoping for.

True story. I'm not intending to laud our offense the last few years. It was atrocious. Just meant to point out that the game wasn't as close as the score. I'd be ecstatic if we could finally start putting up the huge numbers we should be.

Weber: if its not too much to ask, could you please throw us another 7 ints this year? ;-)

Unlike the past 4 years at Weber I do not expect to see us throwing 50 passes per game this year. We will be running it a lot more than we have seen in many years. Although late in the season last yr we became a running team.
