The Brown-eyed Susan, where our colors come from...

Any type of comparison of our football team to a flower, must stop, now. Women's hoops...ok...but football, no. I know, it's history...but history doesn't make sense all the time. We can (and should) learn from our mistakes, and move on. Brown & White, gold accents (real gold) and fans can still wear GDG if they want to continue to be seen from space.

And to hijack the thread...for all you Montana folk...when did the boys in Mizzoula change their colors? I know it was a drastic change when it happened...just can't remember.

Talk to the Alumni back then who chose the colors based on the decorations at an alumni dinner.

The color are what they are. Changing the colors just to sell a few more T-shirts is whack. You want to stir up a hornet's nest just try getting Burman to propose it. Of course he wouldn't because Wyoming's colors are the "third rail" of alumni support.

BTW, who says choosing these colors were a "mistake?" Wyoming is one of three schools that have brown as their primary school color. It makes us unique. Who wants to look like everyone else?

Glad I reread the name of the flower, you put "Susan" in the wrong spot and the colors take on a whole new meaning! :thumb:

Montana's official school colors are copper, silver and gold (the state's legacy natural resources), their "spirit" colors are maroon and silver. They won the national championship in 1995 with the copper, silver and gold, then switched to the maroon and silver the following season, in 96. However, I've heard in UMs history that they wore maroon and silver back in the 60s and 70s, but I can't verify that. HUGE swing in colors, and for the better, though, when they came out in the retro uniforms last year for Cat/Griz it was fricking awesome.

Never said anything about brown...at all. I like brown. And white. Together. With some gold accents (again, real gold, around the numbers, steamboat). And it isn't about selling T shirts (to me at least, maybe to the Brown & Gold & Knothole it would be). It is about a cool new look, with the primary colors being brown & white. With gold accents. ;)

DC, this is partially my (a) point...

A great portion of our fanbase (the alumni back then crowd) are the same sit-on-their-hands, blue haired, don't yell too loud, don't dare say a horrible cuss word like "damn" or "sh!t" type of people that are anti any type of color or color scheme change. They need to be brought out of the 50's and 60's, college football isn't what it was 50 years ago. ;)

This is the same group that would never allow beer to sold at the War or AA. This is the same group that "despise" all those young kid students yelling at the opposing team (when in fact, just 60 short years ago, it was them), and so on. And lastly...I love it when it starts to snow around Laramie in football season. Only the true fans show up...and the blue hairs stay home!

Okie: The problem w/ the '88 team was Barry Sanders.

BELIEVE me, I know!!!!!!!!!!!

But, the 1988 squad could blowout the 1967 squad on any day of the week!!!!!!!!! That's what I'm saying!!!!!

The 2008 squad would beat the 1967 squad by 60. You are comparing athletes of the 60s vs a different generation. With current training and lifting, athletes are much bigger and faster. Thats just dumb. The only fair thing to do is to compare a team with its success in its own timeframe.

Okay -- that may be dumb, but the 88 team COULD beat the 67 team. How about the 2009 vs the 1988 team? Another 20+ years. Today's Pokes with all the year-round training, dietitians, and facilities get smoked by 50. -- Guarandamnteed!

I don't care if we wore pink and were winning games... Why do fans place so much importance on the Uni's? As a player, I felt lucky enough to be putting one on for team I was playing for; Regardless of what I thought it looked like. I looked good in any Uniform :D

I personally liked having New Balance do our Uni's. It was unique not having a nike, reebok, addidas, etc. like every other school has.

Unfortunately, superficial athletes have to have a nice looking uniform, despite how shallow some of us perceive that. I agree, I just liked putting on the uniform, I didn't care what it looked like or who made it, just as long as I had it.

Hey McP- I might be older than some on here, but I still have an open mind. I sit close to some old fogies who give me dirty looks for yelling too loud - one guy even had to turn his hearing aid down. You are right they are the ones that don't stand up for Cowboy Joe and sit like a bump on a log so they don't damage their egos. I'm also one that stays through the blizzards even when we are losing.

I can't disagree that some of the so called "blue hairs" can be sticks in the mud when it comes to yelling and screaming at the games, but the fact of the matter is, that that's where the money and influence is. With the building of the club seating and luxury boxes a lot of them will use their money to get comfy accommodations at the game.

The one thing I have in common with the blue hairs, however, I don't want anyone screwing with my school colors. Dr. Phil's little experiment was very irritating to me. And you notice how quickly Burman changed the colors back to the '80s configuration. He knows what side his bread is buttered on. Let's concentrate on winning games and leave the school colors alone.
