Horseshixxt. Would you put your money into the NFL if your team won 2 games a year? The men's BB team has not even made the MWC quarterfinals since 2022. If we had just won the conference tournament, would you be worried about who was on the team next year? I wouldn't be. I don't care what the player's motivation is. I don't care about any of the other shxt you mentioned. Winning is what matters. And there has been precious little of that at Wyoming for a very long time. Do I like the what is happening regarding college sports? No. If we showed the slightest pulse this year, I would have been at the MW tournament. But the fact is, we are producing a horrible product in the 2 sports that count.
UNLV just fired their BB coach. He had a winning record in the conference for his 4 years and the school said that's not good enough. Our FB coach has a roughly 500 record and stays for 10 years. That says a little about our commitment to winning. The only commitment is to get fans in the seats and coaches will be hired and fired based on that. Only when the financial pain of empty stadiums becomes a reality will there be any action. What's worse: Everyone in the coaching community knows it. Getting good coaches to come here is going to be next to impossible. But we must be a contractor's dream because renovating facilities seems to be our specialty.
I happen to be a Lions fan, so, yes, I’d put money into a pretty crappy team. 🤣
And no, I’m not a bandwagon person. I’ve put money into them for the better part of 40 years.

Also, if your theory were totally true, the 2021 team that went to the tournament would have drawn way more fans. The biggest crowds that year were only about 2000 more butts in seats than there were this year. Fans don’t know the players anymore, therefore interest is not there. It’s one thing to be bad, and then it’s a whole new thing when you don’t even know who is wearing the damn uniform.

Maybe they don't care at Wyoming. I can tell you that other schools know who their players are and show up. Csewe had a lot of new players and the games were sold out. And if we're bad, I don't want that player sticking around forever. It works both ways. Cooper Flagg is a one and doner at Duke. Are fans staying away because he won't be back next year? Don't be ridiculous.

So...Burman! Again!

I didn't say you we're a bandwagon fan. But I don't understand the rationale. If we were winning, but the roster turns over every year, you wouldn't follow the team because you can't keep track of whose on the field? It makes no sense. If you're morally opposed to the portal and don't want to support college sports, I get that. But how is pro sports any different? What do you think the professional athlete's motivation is? Money. They may stay longer in one spot. But it's exactly the same as college.

Naw, there were like 5-6x more actual people in the seats for those games that season

I think the numbers behind CSU’s attendance might surprise you. Sounds like you wanna be a sheep fan. They are in the mighty pack now, so they might average like 5000 now. Oh wait, once Medved leaves after they lose in the tournament, they’ll be back to square one too. I’m not against the 1 and done players that go straight to the pros. I think we’d all take a Cooper Flagg. You can’t help but know him. What I’m talking about is the fact that most of us can name anywhere from 5-8 guys off of a roster from 2014 or 2002, and I couldn’t name more than 3 from 2023. That’s the shame of the portal. And I can’t stand hearing announcers say a guys name and then rattle off 3-4 schools the kid was at. It’s ridiculous. Free agency without any repercussions = a mess.

Anyone on this board knows I'm not a sheep fan. I live in Fort Collins. They have some early season games where the attendance is low. But they fill that place consistently when the students are there. I doubt Medved is leaving. And you can make fun of their conference, but adding Gonzaga was a huge plus. Their conference is going to be far better than ours, for bb anyway. I don't think anyone likes the portal and NIL. But you either play or you don't. And everyone else is doing it far better than we are.

Schroyer, Edwards, and Linder progressively gutted Wyoming basketball. Shyatt was meh - boring as hell basketball but he created a bit of excitement with the Tourney run, which was promptly squandered with an exhibition game loss to Fort Lewis. The portal and transfers have driven a new series of nails in our coffin. Add in the bungled AA remodel and reseating (I know, it had to happen, but they still flubbed it) and you have over 20 years of mostly craptastic product and results.

CSU, OTOH, made a series of good to great hires and has created an atmosphere that is pretty cool. Where else can you cheer and see a woman's reproductive system light up on the wall of the arena?

I think the judgement with the basketball program has been too harsh. Under the great hires since McClain was fired have come 3 winning seasons in conference, 1 conference tournament championship and 1 CBI championship enroute to a 114-194 record (.370) record in MWC play. C’mon now, we average 1 conference season above .500 every 7-8 years. What is expected - a ride from Boeing to the space station without a return?

CSU, OTOH, has only had 10 winning seasons in conference and are a miserable 179-193 record (.482) in MWC play in the same span.

Wyoming fans will always be able to ridicule anything CSU and will rightfully look down on our lower elevation neighbors from our fly over country perch at 7220.

The best part of the wonderful AD leadership at UW with the hoops program is there is no need to be concerned with parking or waiting in line to use a urinal. No more congested walks at halftime in the AA and for the old folks no need to be concerned with being unable to stand or show any emotion of excitement.

The same 27 people will enjoy all CJC basketball pregame functions without having to deal with a bunch of pain in the A newbie’s infiltrating the good times. Students can spend more time going to dispensaries in fart colons because the csu students will be going to a stupid basketball game on a Tuesday night.

The soon to be improved MWC will be a great opportunity to flirt with .500 or better by ridding the conference of the dead weight of SDSU, USU, BSU and CSU.

I'm not convinced that exchanging SDSU, USU, BSU and CSU for Grand Canyon (93) , UTEP (152), Hawaii (223), and Davis (246). (KenPom rankings) will result in a huge improvement. UNLV was 92, but fired their coach, they will get better fast. And Davis will start to take this seriously and easily be where Riverside and Santa Barbara are (146 and 147) within a couple of years. UW has been hovering around their current ranking of 184 for decades.

I am certain our Athletic Director is making more than any of these newly admitted school's athletic directors with his $551,000 per year salary.

How to build a team through the portal.

The Ringer

Get used to this being Wyomings record most years in Basketball and what their record was in football this year, the same thing will happen in that sport.

Until the NIL Portal stuff has actual laws put to it that supports the teams, any player that is good at Wyoming will be leaving for a bigger and better team where they get paid money.

So unless Wyoming figures out a way to start paying athletes as much as the next guy, Wyoming won’t ever be that good again.

I stopped paying much attention to the sports this year, because no point when you lose your best players after every season.
If you have a player show that he is talented in D1 then the bigger school with the big money will just buy them from us and Wyoming will have to start all over again next season.
I don’t even blame the coaches at Wyoming on what their record is, they are already starting at a huge disadvantage and there isn’t anything they can do about it unless Wyoming somehow finds a way to pay players big money which isn’t ever going to happen.
