I never thought I’d agree with SDPoke but I agree with this. FCS schools will likely have more stability with players and we can look forward to playoffs and competing. Not a system where we are a minor league for teams in the same league.

No. Never. If we drop to FCS, fan interest will plummet. National FCS champion is like being the world's tallest midget. No one cares.

My family did too. But they also taught me to make wise financial decisions. I can’t blame any player leaving for an ability to cash in on their talents. You’re just not going to get any big NIL money in a market like Wyoming. How many of us are going to turn down job opportunities that drastically increase our salaries?

The problem is that NIL isn't players monetizing their popularity. It's a way for boosters to funnel money to the program. No way this can keep going forever. I'd be surprised if Neyor makes much more in NIL if he makes a move to another G5 program. If he jumps to an Autonomous 5 program then maybe.

Will it? Have you seen our recent scheduling!?!? (Akron, UTEP, the entire MAC, everyone but identifiable programs). Does the average fan distinguish between Western Michigan and Northern Iowa as far as opponent? Does the Potato Bowl have more appeal than a home FCS playoff game?
My answers - I bet about 5% of Wyoming fans could even identify that Northern Iowa and Western Michigan are in different divisions. I believe that Montana State’s upcoming game is a helluva lot more exciting for the fan base than our Kent State game and attendance will show it.
I know that this sounds virtually identical to SDPoke years ago and for which I blasted him. But - - Times have forever changed. NIL has completely changed the equation. Realistically, it is impossible for virtually the entire MWC to compete with programs the average fan can identify because Wyoming doesn’t have the market to offer the crazy NIL dollars floating around.
Give me a more regional game against Montana State or South Dakota State everyday over the Akron Zips. Be honest with yourself - - did you have any clue that the Zips mascot is a kangaroo?

My mom went to Akron U.. My uncle went to Kent st.. So I'm somewhat familiar with the smaller midwest schools. Although Akron has 20k students. Your arguments are sound. But I can't wrap my head around it. I've never watched even 20 minutes of a FCS game. I would bet every casino and bar had our game on the other day. The prestige of even a minor bowl is better than an FCS game, imo. But the writing seems to be on the wall.
So, if we go FCS in football, do we also go in basketball? This transfer situation is going to be just as lethal for our BB team. We really missed Williams yesterday. We simply don't have a point guard. Will Ike stay? I think it will be an untenable situation when coaches and fans wonder if players are going to stay or not. You can't build a program that way. I really feel for Linder. He's recruited well. He 's a fine coach. And these rules will destroy what he 's trying to build.

There is no such thing as FCS in basketball. It is all division 1. Montana is in the same division as Wyoming in every sport but football.

Oh - I was looking to get a ticket to the FCS championship game…the cheapest is $450 running up to $1500. Certainly no one cares about FCS. Remind me, what were tickets going for in the potato bowl and how difficult were potato bowl tickets to come by?
