Did anyone see if they actually lowered the 'Pokes' 1st half rim after Burman broke out the measuring stick at halftime? UNM media is reporting it was lowered 3" after being measured at 10' 3". I saw measurements, but never saw an adjustment...

I saw the measurements but never saw them adjust it either.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn't happening.

The good news is we have a stretch of winnable games following this trip to Boise.

Not a moral victory, but Wyo was in it, and showed they can play. Complain about it all you want but in the end it was an OT loss. This team can play, and will win some games. We are 2 shots away from being 2-0 in MWC play.

Wyo absolutely has to go and beat Boise in Boise.

What's the difference between a loss in regulation and a loss in ot?
There is a vast difference between being 11-4; 2-0. And 9-6; 0-2. Regardless of whether it's two shots, it's two losses in the record books.
I'm sick of proving we can play with these teams. We need to win them!!! We could play with Colorado, Lost. We played well against OSU, lost. Played close against SMU, lost. Then we lost two close ones to Denver and Nevada, two teams tha should've been wins. Losing to teams with losing records does not help your chances in anything.

Nance just seemed to disappear in ot.

He and Cooke were getting beat up trying to defend that Goon, Bairstow....as for his 3 late, that's cuz no one else was moving on offense trying to get open. Granberry was non existent, which is sad for a veteran senior, Josh needed to take it to hole more, I was happy to see Sobey wake up this game, Cooke needs more of a killer instinct and Grabau is just fine. Trey Washington step up!!! We tried Matt Sellers but he looked scared, this was truly a fun basketball game to attend, the crowd got into it and you could see it pick our guys up, but the main thing is HIT YOUR DAMN FREE THROWS WHEN THEY COUNT, miss 4 in ot, that wins you the game. Greenwood(tinkerbell) was not really a factor thank goodness, and those twin towers down low are a force, but we handled them well, as well as that showboat, Kendall Williams.
It doesn't get any easier from here on out, as Boise made a valliant effort last night being down most the game, losing by 3, I just want to see the WHOLE team come together and play a game "together"
what an effort, but I'm getting tired of hearing Larry say in his post game "it's a work in progress", there comes a time that the killer instinct has to come into play and play well as a whole!!!! Cmon Coach Shyatt get this righted and soon

That was frusterating. Just like I thought in it till the end with a chance to win but couldn't finish again. I think all the games this year will be like this. Close till the end. We need to start closing. I don't think it is a moral victory to say "this shows we can play with anyone in the league". Its finding positives in a tough loss.
sobe finaaly played decent for most of the game(ot turnover and missed freethrows were bad), Hankerson actually made a jumpshot and drove it to the rim without losing the ball. Grabau shot well against an athletic defense. Need to do something to rebound. Offensive boards are gonna continue to haunt this team. On to Boise.

Dick face Craig Neal took a page out of Ritchie McKay's book. Was a total BULLSHIT bogus move - to demand the baskets get measured to mind-fuck with the other team. Well, it didn't work, no adjustments were made, and the measurements were exactly where required. I was surprised by Neal and his actions (and his staff's actions). Thought they had more class than that - but they proved they are just another face of Alford.

Is that the same Craig Neal that played for the Cleveland Cavaliers? I thought he looked vaguely familiar.

I was disgusted with our play in the 2nd half. We were in it the whole time, but there were some glaring deficiencies with our team.

1. We don't rebound. We don't even ATTEMPT to rebound on offense. It was maddening watching us run to the other end of the court the second someone took a shot. No one even bothered to follow their shot! Inexcusable.

2. New Mexico's offense was geared to look for two specific shots; a big at the elbow or a shooter in the corner. I had this pegged 2 minutes into the second half but the team never seemed to be able to wrap their heads around it. It got to the point that I was screaming "CORNER!" from the stands every time they double teamed the pick on the pick and roll that the Lobos kept running. I'm going to look for a shot chart and see just how many shots those two looks accounted for.

3. Free throws. How the hell do you miss 5 straight free throws down the stretch? Inexcusable.

4. Down 1 point with 28 seconds left we've got a chance to hold for last shot and win the game. Instead we run our offense as fast as possible and Grabau drives straight at Alex Kirk with 17 seconds left on the clock! What the hell was he thinking?!

5. Ball handling. We have no one that can dribble. Trey Washington was doing a decent job, then proceeded to fall over 4 times in the same possession. He never saw the floor again. I counted a minimum of 7 turnovers where the Lobos simply took the ball from someone that just lost the handle.

Bottom line is we had no business being in this game at the end. I have never been so angry at a team when they're only down 3 points. Mark my words: Boise is going to destroy us this weekend.

Yes they did lower it an inch or two. When they first hung the 10' bar it was swinging freely. after they lowered it it didn't swing any more. Some guy went to the side of the base and opened a panel and adjusted something.

That is pretty bad that we were were shooting at a basket that was to high in the first half.

i wondered what they were doing, sure give an overrated team that much more of an advantage, i wonder who brought it to who's attention???

I didn't see anyone adjust it...but I saw the stick come out.

And I agree, how embarrassing that Wyoming would be shooting at a basket that was too high the first half.

I blame Burman of course. Another piece to the "doing less with less" thing.

Well, it's understandable that Burman didn't get the point when the president told him to "set your standards higher".

I saw the guys on Around the Horn discuss the rim height issue today. I was at the gym so didn't have audio. Must have been a slow day in sports.

To everyone asking if they adjusted the net or not.

Yes, they adjusted the rim. I was sitting in the first row, right next to the basket in question. When the ref and janitor dude came out with the pole, the pole was hanging a few inches from the ground... They did, in fact lower it.

So, Wyoming spends all of the first half shooting at a basket that is 3 inches higher than regulation....and none of our cerebral players noticed?

But New Mexico's staff did and made sure the basket was lowered AFTER the first half was over. Either their staff is pretty observant, or one of their players said,"Hey coach, that basket is way too high. Somebody needs to check it before we have to shoot on this end of the floor in the second half."

Another fine example of the quality product Burman puts on the floor. Only Wyoming would adjust the basket to fuck themselves.

Tom Burman - "The game isn't hard enough, let's raise the rim 3 inches and see how we do."

I guess when you're Josh Adams and can dunk on a 12 foot hoop 10'3 and 10' are about the same.

That was a joke, but now I am wondering, do you think Adams could dunk on a 12 foot hoop?

I think he could get real close....that guy has some major hops.....can you imagine if he was 6'9"?

And he's only going to get better.

I also was sitting close to the rim in question. It was definitely too high, probably 3 inches, but I don't think it was at that height throughout the entire first half. I think it happened after a dunk by Nance late in the first half, one in which he hung on the rim with one hand after a dunk--I think this is what caused the rim to become misadjusted. Not sure about this but that is what Nance seemed to be indicating when he was discussing it on the court with one of the Lobos.
