I do think NDSU has the stuff to beat UW, but I wouldn't gloat that much, The reason NDSU lit up those FBS teams is because both had terrible run defenses. While Wyoming may have no clue what to do with the pass they always are strong at stopping the run. Believe me if they can stop Ian Johnson they can definitly stop Tyler Roehl.
My bad... Terrible probably wasn't the correct word to use. I guess the reason that i'm high on my teams has to do with the types of teams that we beat. We killed CMU (which was the MAC champion). We killed a middle of the road MAC team in Ball State (which hung with Michigan the same year we played them). While i'm not sure how the MCC or MAC compares, I think that we have certainly played competition that is at minimum at the same level as Wyoming.
Here is the deal with Tyler Roehl. He's very BIG. He's very FAST. He's a Mike Alstott type runner. He doesn't go down on the first hit and he runs a 4.45 fourty. He averaged 6.9 yards/carry last year (that is good for 4th in all of FCS). In the Minnesota game last year he outran the UofM defensive backfield several times and if they were in his way he bowled right over them.
Outside of Roehl, we have a kid named Pat Paschall. He's our change of pace back. He is quick and very elusive. Typically we ram the ball down the throats of our opponent and when they are on their heals we then give them the speedier back to put them away. He also averages 6.3 yards/carry last year.
If that is not good enough, we have a third back, Pete Blincoe, who also averages 5.5 yards/carry.
We're a run first team. We always have been (back to our D2 days when we won 8 national championships) and always will be. We pass -- effectively (our QB had a 164 rating last year) when we need to but it's always the second option.
I am sure that we can win this game. Who knows if we will. I can tell you however that on paper we will not be overmatched.
