Nate Dixon...

jc, any opinion as to why Shyatt did not succeed in Clemson. Do you think that he may incorporate more what he has learned in Florida here.. thanks..

He is a 6 -10 235lb post player out of a high school in Winston-Salem, NC. He is familiar with the Shyatts but is being recruited by Tennessee, Wake Forest, Loyola Marymount, & others.

Why does he HAVE to hire someone of color?

Kids don't want to come to Laramie and not have anyone they can't relate to on staff. It's one thing when you go play at a power conference school or in a place with a significant minority (read: black) population, but without someone on staff that makes potential recruits feel comfortable about a place they'd otherwise feel skeptical about (or you know, a friend on the team...) then they're just not going to make it work.

You might not like it, but it's not so much about being "PC" as much as it's about being able to compete in a recruiting game that's stacked against Wyoming in pretty much every way.

Eastcoast, its not that I dont "like" it. I dont care. But the original comment sounded like there was an NCAA requirement or something. Thats what I was questioning. But I think a coach makes a mistake by hiring someone just because he is black. A player will spend hit social time wiht friends, teammates, not with coaches.

As to the questions about why Shyatt didnt suceed in Clemson and if he learned in Florida. I dont know why he didnt succeed at Clemson, I didnt really follow him after he left. But I saw an article about Shyatt where Larry was talking about how he had learned so much from Donovan about offense. If nothing else, we have a coaching staff with an enourmous amount of expereince at all levels of college ball.

Shyatt will have to hire a man of color for that opening.

Too bad. Nate was a solid guy.

Peace.

Well, they pulled the trigger on "man of color" as you put it. Allen Edwards.

"Prior to coming to WKU for the 2010-11 season, Edwards was an assistant coach for one season at Towson University. As a player at the University of Kentucky from 1995-98, Edwards went to three-straight NCAA Final Fours and won two National Championships."

I like having someone on the staff that was a winner as a player. Seems like a whole different level of motivation for the current players.

I was going to say the same thing. He was a WINNER on a whole different level of winning than about 99.5% of the NCAA. Not to knock Marcus Bailey but as far as just being a good basketball player being hired as an assistant, this guy is a step up. This guy also has some coaching experience. Hopefully, he turns out to be one hell of a recruiter.
