My Newest Helmet

I have always liked the revo speeds...but the new revo 360's are ugly to me. Back on topic I love the helmet. Are you going to put them in glass display cases?

Left side is good.
Right side needs a good looking cowboy.

Do you ever put Wyoming's flag on the helmet?

Ha ya look at my other thread. I have five helmets. 2 matte brown, one with the american flag steamboat and the other with the state flag. Then the two white helmet, the one pictured above and the other metallic white with gold steamboats.

Nah. They sit on my big dresser in my apartment.

So? Those helmets work just as well as the stupid revolution helmets!!!!

Actually the don't. "Revolution helmets have been proven through studies to reduce the risk of head injury. One major study on the helmet’s effectiveness was conducted by a team from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The research compared the Revolution helmet with other models. 2,000 high school players participated in the study which took place over the course of three years. Research showed that 5.4% of the athletes wearing the Revolution helmet suffered a concussion during a game as opposed to 7.6% of the players wearing the older model helmets. High school players wearing the Revolution helmet were 31% less likely to experience a concussion" :twocents:

Exactly!
The new helmets aren't used because they look cool, they are used because they are safer. Helmet technology is changing very rapidly right now. Currently researchers are designing and looking at helmets that are actually several pieces fitting together like a jigsaw puzzle as opposed to one big shell. The idea here is that the individual piece can absorb the blow instead of transferring it throughout the entire helmet.

Sorry Wyokie, the helmets of the past are gone for good, within the next 10-15 years we may see helmets that are so bizarre looking (but safer) that you will wish we had the Revolutions back.

right. Nascar implemented those crash walls and they have saved lives. It's all about the energy not being transferred to the head. This would only protect the violent head to head hits. If you are running and your head suddenly stops (whiplash), I'm not sure there is a helmet to protect against that. Body in motion, body stops, brain sloshes around in your coconut, concussion.

Not a fan of the Pistol Pete image.

I agree with everyone on here that says that, no matter what the helmet design looks like, I am all in favor of anything that helps keep brains from getting smashed and scrambled.

I hate revolution helmets. Why can't anyone use the old ones anymore?
personally, i think the "old ones" need to be removed from the playing field....and i'm not talking from a cosmetic standpoint either.....i could give a crap less what shape the ear holes are as long as a safer product is produced

If I were to return to playing I would still want to wear my traditional schutt helmet. I think every player accepts the risk when they put on their helmet, modern or traditional helmet. Someone go tell Tom Brady he must change his helmet! I honestly do not believe the newer helmets are preventing concussions anymore than the ones we had 10 years ago.

For all you safety gurus: Leather helmets are shown to be as safe as the modern ones: http://www.chicagonow.com/the-lowe-down/2011/11/leather-football-helmets-as-safe-as-modern-helmets-during-routine-play/

Researchers note that severe head injuries decreased with newer helmet safety standards, but this is because severe skull fracture and catastrophic brain injury are the the measurement categories for helmet safety standards. Thus modern helmets offer better protection against severe head injuries than their leather counterparts, but are no better at protecting the head in routine situations.

Your own article kills your theory. :)
