MW in Bowls

Nevada lost to UL-Lafayette 3-16. Poor result, and things are looking down in Reno.

Utah State beat UTEP 21-6. Miners aren't a good team, but the conference needs any win it can get.

Colorado State lost to Utah 10-45. Not a good look for the MW. No McElwain of course, but what some argue is the best MW team getting obliterated like that did not help the conference.

Air Force beat Western Michigan 38-24. Again, like the New Mexico Bowl, not a great opponent, but a much needed win.

San Diego State lost to Navy 16-17. What. The. Hell. Aztecs. You were at home.

Fresno State lost to Rice 6-30. Fresno should not be allowed to bowl ever again. They're so bad at it.

Boise State-Arizona. The only remaining MW bowl. MW already can't do anything to break even, but the Broncos winning this game would go a long way to helping the conferences image and enforcing the Go5 bid to becoming a MW auto bid. Whether that happens or not, we have to wait and see. Arizona can be a great team, and a bad one too depending on what week it is. Kinda like Boise State. Spread is at -3 Zona, toss up basically. I could see just about anything happening in this game.

The sheep lost to BSU badly and only came within 10 in garbage time. BSU was the best team in the conference, except when they got drubbed by Hody Doody.

And the West was really down this year, and the bowl games proved it (as did us bitch slapping Fresno in Fresno).

But DeRuyter really seems to suck at getting his team ready for bowl games period. 2 Hawaii Bowls and the Vegas Bowl and choked badly at all 3, including when he had Fresno's best offensive team ever.

Nevada, they lose their star QB made of porcelain (seriously, when has that kid NOT been hurt?), so I don't know what to expect of them going forward.

Hody Doody, well, he didn't go through 5 QBs, and he did pretty well, we still beat him though (suck it Howdy Doody!), and his system is one where you just plug in a player and keep going.

USU, they have the worse luck with QBs of any team I have seen, yet they keep winning.

SDSU needs a quality QB overall for their offense. And a decent OC. Then I think they'll be okay.

Fresno, their defense has been getting worse year by year. And DeRuyter is supposed to be a defensive guy. And a lot of Fresno fans thought their offense would be okay going into this season without Carr and 2 of his favorite WRs. They got quiet pretty quickly.

Boise, their QB is at least decent in his less good games (not counting Air Force), and they got better as the season went on. I think they have a shot at winning the Fiesta Bowl.

Here's the thing that surprises me about DeRuyter....he's going into year #4, and NONE of HIS recruits have become a stud. Derek Carr, Philip Thomas, Davante Adams, Tyeler Davison, Derron Smith, Josh Harper, etc...all great players, but all Pat Hill recruits. Outside of Ejiro Ederaine, I don't think any of "his" guys could be considered above-average. Fuck, even Bohl got something out of his recruit in Brian Hill, and he didn't inherit anywhere near the level of talent DeRuyter has.

Year #4 is big for Fresno. Cause right now, DeRuyter looks like a guy who did an okay job cooking with some else's ingredients, but has officially run out of those ingredients. Anyone worth a shit on that team just graduated.

I expect Boise to get their asses kicked today. Not too sure how I feel about that...I want MWC teams to win, but I wouldn't mind seeing the glorified 2-year school get their butts handed to them.

It's not a MWC Bowl but I think TCU made a serious statement tonight, Not a fun game to watch if your an Ole Miss fan but man pretty exciting as a TCU fan.

So far looks like Boise at least came to play or Arizona is overlooking them burned pretty bad pretty easy.

Boise trying realllly hard to give this game up.

Boise did two things with that win, Made the MWC look a lot better after that beat down CSU took and proved that they can play with most teams.

LOL

It's okay though, that's not as bad as spindoctor2 using Grant Hedrick as a reason why Arizona would destroy Boise. ;) Hedrick wasn't perfect, but he made some big plays.

Well, my prediction for Boise proved accurate.
Two very inconsistent teams, both capable of being great and awful...sometimes all in one game. Play the game 10 times, they split 5/10.

Big win for the MW. I hope this win sticks in the minds of the committee for future Go5 arguments between the MW, AAC, C-USA, etc.

Did I hear right that the one BSU player had 6 picks this year? Damn, wish we had a secondary like that

I think Donahue said Thompson has 7, Deayon has 6.

Except BSU is losing Ajayi, who has been the guy they rode all season, and I think Hedrick, who has been a decent starter for them. Not sure what all they'll have returning for next season.

Also, not really a good night if you're from the state of Mississippi. Ole Miss was thouroughly crushed by TCU and MSU just turned the ball over and GT took it in for a TD. SEC may finally be exposed, having 1 or 2 really good teams, and then a big drop off.

They also have a guy that had 7 this year as well.

Good win for Boise. They own the Fiesta Bowl. 3x Fiesta Bowl Champs, 2007 (Oklahoma), 2010 (TCU), and now 2014 (Arizona).

Man oh man I wish we were at their level. Remember how Boise was kind of "down" this season? MWC Champs, Fiesta Bowl Champs, 12 wins. Unreal.

They get spanked by Ole Miss, win a few real ugly, lose to AFA and end up winning 9 straight to end the season.
12-2. Their two losses have a combined record of 19-7.

Wyo has a LONG ways to go until we are competing at Boises level.

Boise returns every single starter on offense and defense, except for Ajayi and Hedrick. They'll be very good next year, but QB and RB will be tricky. 4-Star QB Rypien might start right away.....McNichols (scored twice vs. Wyoming) likely next in line at RB.

Boise was also missing their top 3 DTs this season because of injuries. They should be great on that side of the ball in year#2 under Harsin.

Excellent win for Boise. Must say they do play well in big bowl games. Yesterday was no exception.

Agree with you guys about Fresno. Seriously, what is wrong with that team? I thought the Bulldogs would at least show up for a game against Rice. I didn't think the Owls were anything special.

Not MWC but, How about LaQuan McGowan in the Cotton Bowl! Love it when the big guys get involved.

So far that Bowl game has been the best game of the season, It's pretty crazy MSU was able to come back and win that game.
