.mtn TV schedule released for 09 Football

For the non-link clickers:

9/5 Weber St
9/12 Texas
9/19 at CU
9/26 UNLV
10/3 at FAU (no Bowling Green!)
10/10 NM
10/17 at AF
10/24 Open
10/31 at Utard
11/7 bWHYu
11/14 at SDSU
11/21 TCU
11/27 at CSewe

Interesting that we are now going to Boca Raton (FAU on 10/3). I should have bought the Bowling Green trip with the Cowboys on the CJC online auction! Damn!

Interesting quote coming out of the release: "...what will be the greatest schedule in University of Wyoming history." Not so sure about that. I guess it depends on what one means by "greatest" as in "greatest" chance to get our asses kicked or "greatest" from a tailgate standpoint, or even "greatest" for fans that travel. WTF.

The Texas game works out perfect.. Montana plays at UC-Davis that weekend, looks like a good opportunity to come down to Laramie. Though, Boca Raton sounds like fun....

As like past years, it seems with this schedule the Pokes are poised to start out well, maybe 5-2, but could plummet. I'm going to drink some Poke kool-aid and say UW will finish with 8 wins. Weber, @Colorado, UNLV, @FAU, NM, @AF, @SDSU, @Colorado State. Sweep the Colorado teams.

Oh....to back up the @CU win.....they seem to do poorly against "lesser programs". They have lost to Montana State and CSU in past years, and just barely got past the quickly fading away Eastern Washington Eagles. Won't be surprised at all if UW wins this one.

Kind of disappointed none of the games in September are night games. I was hoping they would restart some night games this year early in the year when the weather is nice.

I really don't see more than 7 wins at most. I would actually be ecstatic if we got to 7 wins in Christensen's first season. That would be a 3 game improvement with a little bit tougher out of conference schedule. That being said, I think realistically we are looking at 5 wins and maybe we can pull out a 6th win to become bowl eligible. We just don't have the talent level to compete quite yet on the offensive side of the ball. Frankly, if Benjamin or Carta-Samuels don't earn the starting job, I am going to be very discouraged. I just don't think any of the current QB's are able to compete at a high level in D1 football. I don't think their poor play has had anything to do with being "mind raped" by Cockhill or by poor playcalling. They simply lack the talent. I know I am probably in the minority when I say this, but I'm relatively sure I was wrong about Bill Cockhill. I was calling for his head two years ago and was sure his play calling was the reason for our poor offensive output. It said a lot when the new OC had even worse offensive output. I didn't think that was possible. I think the offense will be marginally improved this year under Christensen, but I'm not expecting a huge turn around like some on the board are. We haven't recruited D1 athletes on the offensive side of the ball and getting those types of players here will take a while. I think we are going to be seeing a lot of freshamn and sophmores seeing a lot of playing time in the next few years as Christensen tries to make up for the Glenn recruited offensive players. I've said this before, but I was a bit disappointed in Christensen's first recruiting class. Honestly, it isn't much different from what Glenn was bringing in. He seems to be making a lot of early offers this year though, so I'm really excited to see how next year's class turns out. Our recruiting absolutely has to improve if we want to win more games.

I would be shocked if Carta-Samuels didn't redshirt this year. I would think the QB competition is between Barry and Benjamin.

Well, at least FAU doesn't seem to schedule many cream puffs for the non-conference season. Look at last years schedule. Maybe that's how they got toughened up for the conference (Texas, Minnesota, Michigan State)

I would be equally as shocked if Carta-Samuels does redshirt. If Christensen even thinks that the guy is on the same level as the current QB's, you can bet that he will see playing time as a true freshman. Christensen brought this guy in to turn this program around immediately. What I honestly see happening is Benjamin earning the starting spot with Carta-Samuels as back up. CS will progressively see more and more of the reps as the season goes on. Right or wrong, I have a feeling Christensen is going to sink or swim with Carta-Samuels at the helm.

IMO, the change from Bowling Green to FAU makes the schedule a lot of tougher. Yea I know we got drilled at home by Bowling Green last year...but FAU has some serious athletes, the game will be extremely hot and humid and not to mention FAU has one of the most famous college coaches of all time.

I see us going 1-3 in non-conference. With our already difficult conference schedule, it would be an extremely great coaching job if we went to a bowl game.

I would say it'd be incredibly difficult to say a true freshman is going to be the next coming of God, much less the next starting quarterback for the Cowboys. Last year everyone was all over Adam Barry and curious why he redshirted, this year it's Carta-Samuels. Truthfully, true freshman rarely get in right away at QB, only the best of the best. Is Carta-Samuels the best? Hard to tell, we've only seen YouTube highlights of him. For all we know, Benjamin could turn out to be the next Dax Crum, he found out pretty quickly the FBS speed of football was a little quicker than what he experienced in JUCO ball. I would say for that reason alone, Carta-Samuels will be redshirting. Again, all my opinion.

That statement makes no sense. If a coach is really doing his job he will honestly evaluate a QB and put the guy on the field who has the best chance to succeed. To suggest that DC is going to arbitrarily pick his QB and sink or swim with that decision without fair evaluation, does a disservice to DC and his caoching ability.

I'm sure Christensen has already evaluated the players a bit by watching film on them. I know, I know, film isn't the same as seeing the player live in your own offense, but it does allow you to see which players are gamers. Some players are practice players. They look great in practice and scrimmages, but they fall flat on their face come game day. Other players just know how to get it done on game day. Granted, he hasn't seen ACS or Benjamin in action at the D1 level yet, but he has a good idea of what they can do. This is all speculation of course, but I have a feeling that Christensen expects Benjamin or ACS to earn the starting job come fall. I saw an article with a quote from Christensen about great QB's. I wasn't able to find the article with the exact quote, but the general point Christensen was trying to make was that you can only develop a player so much. They have to have the skills when they come in. The coaches job is to simply fine tune the skills the player already has. There was one part where he said that he has never had a player who wasn't very good that they developed into a great QB. To me, that doesn't give me much hope for the QB's currently in spring ball, at least Sween and Crum. They have had their shot and they didn't look very good. Maybe, just maybe, they just don't have what it takes.

I think I read something yesterday, and it may have been posted on this site, that DC has not watched film on the players, rather, is just watching them in practice to evaluate.
