I read last night that the joint appropriations committee recommended all of the money that the University of Wyoming requested from the legislature. So far, it's passing through the house of reps as we speak. That includes 20 million for the High Altitude Training Center. It also includes an appropriation of "no more than" 1 million a year for both years of this session to be matched for athletics budget increases. It looks like we'll have the money to add full cost of attendance to the athletics budget.
I don't know how much the increased basketball attendance/AA reseat is going to add to the budget, but it looks like we'll be increasing it by a significant amount. It isn't much, but it's the first step. We need to keep increasing it.
Of course, none of it's final until it passes the senate. The governor is going to sign it into law when he gets it, because he wants to see a winner in Laramie.
It looks like it's going to pass. Now, if we can just keep the positive increases to basketball attendance and improve the product on the football field, we might be looking as some real progress on the athletics budget front.
The only question for me is the AA club area. I've read speculation that they might skip that part of the project although it would be nice if we could add it without further decreasing seating capacity. We need all the revenue streams we can get.
