Larry Nance

You know how kids will yell out their favorite ball player's name when they take a shot? Yesterday I saw a kid at the park yell "Larry Nance" and then he got struck by lightning before he finished the shot.

funny stuff, i betcha he doesn't make the trip to SDSU, just my feeling here
I don't think so either. A not-100% Nance would be a waste and probably a setback to recovery. This game would be a tough one with a 100% Larry. So if the Pokes appear to be getting blown out, Shyatt can let the youngsters get a lot of minutes. That way, they will know how much work they will have to do to compete with the big boys. I'm getting the impression now that next season is the target.

I bet he does make the trip. If I was taking bets it would be that both Herndon and Nance play on Wednesday. Herndon is back practicing today and Larry was on the bus ready to head down to AF before Shyatt made the decision to not let him travel and play. That leads me to believe he wil lbe good to go come Wed.

Are you taking wagers? This does not appear to be likely at all.

Obviously I'm not going to place a bet on the health of our players but I wonder why you say it is not likely at all?
Im basing my thoughts on what came directly from the head coach and also Mike Vorel the guy who interviewed the coach said he beleives there is a good chance they will both play on Wednesday.

the highs and lows of this team year in and year out, man when is my heart truly gonna give out for my efforts...lol

Is this based on your doctoral understanding of how mono effects everybody, or your clairvoyant knowledge of the exact spleen statuses of Nance and Herndon? You seem pretty sure, despite the fact that last week, Shyatt said that it was very possible for Herndon to play Wednesday, and it was 50/50 that Nance would play against Air Force. Then today, he said that Herndon is back at practice and that Nance was on the bus to Air Force.

What insight do you have that the coach is not privy to yet? I'm very interested since you seem willing to place your hard earned money on the fact that neither will play despite the information that's been officially disseminated.

This game will decide the MWC Championship.

We need Larry Nance to win this game.

Need? Maybe. He would tremendously help the cause.

One thing about SDSU is that they're a poor shooting team. I have a feeling that it'll be tough to get rebounds without Nance in the game, but this is also a game that I'd trust Barnes as a capable defender more so than I would against AF.

It's a steep challenge without Nance, for sure. Also keep in mind that we'll actually have a game plan that considers his absence, should that be the case. We didn't have that luxury against AF.

If we get Herndon but no Nance on Wednesday, I still think we have a real shot to win. Again, Nance would tremendously help us, but I trust that Shyatt will have us in the best position to be competitive. It's easier to do so against a team that shoots as poorly as SDSU. We would just need our guards to heat up a little...similar to what SDSU did against us in Laramie.

...except Barnes played exactly 4 minutes at Air Force when we were already down 3 bigs.

Why not red shirt him if he is NEVER going to play?

What makes you think he'd get anymore time against SDSU?

I'm down! Didn't you write disparagingly about Dave and Kevin once? Just based on that I'll get down on this action on the opposite side of you any day, compadre.

Larry Nance Jr. plays against SDSU! The headlines will write themselves.

Larry Nance Jr., in bizarre post game handshake on Wednesday night, forcibly kissed San Diego State University head basketball coach Steve Fisher right on the mouth. Then, after flinging Fisher away, Nance inosculated three more SDSU players, an assistant coach, five fans and the entire Aztec cheerleader squad.

In an allegedly unrelated act on Thursday, Wyoming Governor Matt Mead proclaimed Friday February 13th to be Larry Nance Jr. Day with all state government departments, schools and associated entities closed for statewide parades and general merriment.

All San Diego State University classes and ad hoc events have been terminated until further notice due to inactivity, overly puerile behavior and general malaise. There have been no reported complaints.

Because SDSU doesn't run a quirky offense that would confuse a freshman who 18 hours before the game didn't think he'd have to see the floor. We're gonna zone the shit out of SDSU because they can't shoot - from the field or the FT line. Barnes is a big body that will be able to clog the paint and give up fouls. If we only travel with 3 big men in Barnes, Cooke, and Herndon, this game is much better suited for Barnes to get some good minutes than a game against a quirky AF team for which Barnes wasn't a factor in the gameplan and preparation.

Also, Shyatt said publicly that he encouraged Barnes to redshirt this year, but he didn't want to. Those choices are left up to the players.

Red-shirting isn't really up to the players. Being a whiny bitch and transferring because of it is though.

There might be some cases where the kid could get red-shirted and has the option, but I bet those are rare.
All it takes to red-shirt is to never put the kid in the game. That's ALL on the coach.

That's not how Shyatt publicly describes his redshirting philosophy. He and the coaches advise the player on whether or not they believe it would be in the team's and player's best interest to redshirt. At that point, the player and his family decide what they want to do. Pull up the radio archive of Shyatt's postgame comments from, I believe, the UNC game. He describes this specifically about Jonathan Barnes, and indicates that JB and his family decided not to redshirt.

the coolest thing about all this is 24 games in and we're still tied for 1st place, did y'all expect that to begin the season...lol

I did too, and to be honest with you, I'm slightly disappointed that we don't have separation in the league standings. Not by much, but we have underperformed my expectations.
