Landmark Event Ticket Staff/Gestapo

Who is in charge of the ticket Nazi staff that is policing the AA? I seriously get the point that people who pay more are entitled to their seats in the lower bowl, and for bigger games when a big crowd is expected, I think it's perfectly reasonable to check people's tickets.

But for a Wednesday night game before thanksgiving against Cowboy Hat U? Give me a break folks. I have the cheapest season tickets possible and yet am still hounded for my ticket stub, even after the same attendant saw me get up out of my chair and go to the bathroom? What is this? My friend and I couldn't even casually sit by each other to shoot the breeze for a few minutes because our tickets aren't by each other, even though there were perhaps 4000 people in the AA?

Currently the AA is policed more than the MW tourney is. Anyone know who to write to regarding this?

Bump. The guy told me last night they've been told to check each and every ticket. Really?

We have another thread on this subject, but with the poor attendance this great team is playing in front of, why are we making things even more difficult/unpleasant for the the folks who DO show up? Why not make it as welcoming as possible for those who are coming out and supporting the team?

How would you like it if you showed up to a game and someone was in your seat?

Well, you've got to consider the other side of the coin a little. My cousin has had fantastic seats since the AA was built (somewhere around the fifth row behind the scorer's table). A few years ago he let me have them for a game he couldn't attend. When we arrived Marcus Bailey's family was sitting in them. It was a little uncomfortable asking them to get out of our seats.....

? I'd ask them to get up and take one of the other 7000 open seats around and I think that would probably be the end of it. lol who cares?

I have been on both sides of this. When asking people to leave my seats they have been pleasant about it, and when being asked to leave someone else's seats I apologize and move. No harm, no foul.

I agree. This ain't hard. I have done it quite a few times. In every instance, the person in my seat apologizes, stands up and moves.

The "checking the ticket" deal stinks of the country club mentality that is infiltrating UW and only further exposes the wound that was gashed open with the "reseating" in the AA after the renovation to be filled with salt (which I got as a practical matter, but my goodness was it ever not executed very well...Atilla the Hun had a better bedside manner).

Nearly every comment that I made in the Athletic Department survey tied to my frustration with the efforts to make some pigs "more equal" than others. I get that certain donors deserve special treatment...but it shouldn't be at the expense of the broad majority of folks that cannot afford to give like those high dollar guys. My view is that whenever you add luxury for the big donors, you should make other improvements in the fan experience for the common guy. My recent experience has been that the Department has not only focused its efforts on accommodating the high rollers, but has done so with almost a sense of contempt for the average fan...and in some instances, with direct, negative impact on the common dude.

Some wonder why attendance is suffering for basketball? Certainly Slick did a lot of damage, but I hear a lot of grumbling that has carried over from the AA reseating as justification for long-time season ticket holders to stay away. Add in a lot of TV coverage, streaming and the like and the sort of "prove you are not a criminal" feel that Landmark has infused into the AA and taking the average fan for granted...and you get 4k per game.

Also, in terms of football...I get the TV money thing and rescheduling and lack of control that we have vis a vis ESPN...but when they set the USU and Boise games late at night in November (one of them on Friday), the message was sent and received that the dollar is much more important than fan loyalty to the program. Sure, ESPN controls all of us...but perhaps the Department at least puts on a show to note that they didn't like the game time and understood the impact on the fan. Perhaps acknowledge our value by saying "we hate that you will have to freeze your butt off, but here are some of those cheap outdoor heaters in each concourse to help warm you up...and a couple of vouchers for a free cup of joe/hot chocolate. And if you do make it, we will give you $20 off your season tickets next year..." Maybe those aren't the right perks, but do something other than sit in the FAT CAT Wildcatter luxury box, looking down on me in Section 27 with your toddy (which I cannot buy in my seats), in your short-sleeved polo shirt counting your extra TV cash while I freeze my butt off. The mucky muck leadership should have bundled up and sat with the rest of us and signaled that they were in it with us.

We have zero say over which games are televised, and when, don't we? It's all part of the conference contract, and we don't rate like BSU so we can't dictate our own terms to the conference when they negotiate TV contracts.

I understand that we have no control over ESPN...but to not even acknowledge that it was not great for the fans in the stands and to not do anything to make the experience a bit more enjoyable (heaters in the concourse, etc.) nor show any empathy for us schmucks that were there (by leaving the warm glow of booze in the Wildcatter) was less than the ideal response (or lack thereof).

This is spot on, and I hadn't even really thought about it in the broader picture of things but your point is very valid. The gameday experience of the common fan seems to be the last of their concerns. I guess they figure they give us the new video boards and sound system? Don't get me wrong I'm on board 100% with the AA renovation but geez I think some Apes could be better hosts.

One thing I can say since I've been at another school, is I feel so much more free to cheer and yell and swear in the stands at Beaver games.

There is such a sense of "Big Brother is watching" at Wyoming games.
In football I remember LPD always arresting 1 or 2 people per game, and at basketball that guy with the beard won't let you swear or you get yelled at and kicked out.

The security going on at Wyo games is ridiculous. It very much fits in with the "prove you aren't a criminal" feeling.

Not to mention too many fans in the stands like to go and after a big dunk calmly say "oh that's nice, he's a good young kid". GET ON YOUR FEET AND F***** CHEER!

Get up, get loud!

i am still adjusting to the new confines of the AA myself, but if you want to go sit in the student section and get a little more rowdy than sitting in the "library" with other fans, man i've been to 2 games so far and i feel like I'm invading enemy territory. I'm going to a basketball game to root for my team, say a few words to the other team, give the refs a bit of grief and overall enjoy myself. If I wanted to go to a hospital or a library i'd go there. Sorry I got these tickets to use to root on my favorite team. The Dome of Doom is spozed to be just that, to make it difficult on the opposing team and coaches and refs i thought??? As for checking tickets, I get it but know your sections, don't put me in one area and my friend in another, know your job. And if I go to a game, which is many, recognize that if I'm having to go out for a bathroom break remember me coming back in. Those 2 older goons that are on the floor in their black sweaters, know basketball is a form of enterainment, after a hard day at work and I'm going to get a bit excited if something good happens.
The day and age of hurting someone's feelings by getting on him for not doing well, geesh what is this world coming too??
Hoping some day the Dome of Doom will become a fun place to come and soon.

Every single game even with the ticket checking.
I politely tell them to GTFO :thumb:

I can say this about police and Laramie security at uw games, they are on a power trip, it needs to change. I was kicked out of a handful of games ithrough 2004-2008. College is about being a little wild and drunk, as long as you are semi safe.

Now that I am a respected doctor in the community, I feel bad that the current uw kids are treated more like byu Mormons than the Wyoming heathens that they deserve to be respected as.

God bless Wyo, and let us stop being pussses

This is the response I got from the AD office.

· Seating Enforcement In the Arena-Auditorium: This past year we went with a “semi-dynamic” pricing structure. Almost every game is priced differently. We went in this direction so that we could accommodate all budgets. To increase attendance we need options for fans. In years past, we had one price for non-conference games and one price for conference games. The old model required little enforcement as everyone was paying the same price. With a variable pricing structure, we have to control the venue. Obviously, if one fan pays $25 and another pays $15 and they sit together the higher paying fan will feel taken advantage of and won’t pay the higher price again – there’s no reason. This undermines the pricing structure and causes revenue loss. In the end, we’re trying to get more fans to games (by offering different prices). If there is no control, we have to revert back to our old pricing structure (to maintain revenue levels) which locks a lot of fans out of games, they simply can’t afford it.

· Parking: This is a priority especially. Prior to this year, we didn’t have any single game parking. I found this very odd as most venues have an option for single game ticket buyers. We took a step in the right direction this year by offering single game parking in the “Brown Lot” for $10. There is a shuttle that goes back and forth between the Double A and the lot which reduces the walk. After this year, we will reevaluate the setup and make changes. I would guess that in future years we will offer single game parking in the Summit View lot under the same conditions. Like the ticketing structure, we are trying to accommodate all fans. We have to in order to grow attendance. Things aren’t perfect right now but you can guarantee that we will keep trying and adjusting things until we get there!

Obviously dynamic pricing is a good idea. No sense in charging the same for Regis as for CU. However I have to laugh at the jump in logic from dynamic pricing to fans staying away. Instead of thinking of new ways to get new fans to the AA, and dynamic pricing is a good way, but however the focus seems to be on maximizing revenue from those who already are attending the game.

Seriously, I am so glad I was a student in the 70's. We participated in, and got away with more shit than the poor kids now could even imagine. Not that I really remember all that much of it at this point!
