Trent Greener was named the Director of Strength and Conditioning and Head Football Strength Coach at the University of Wyoming in December 2008. He will be entering his 15th season as a head strength and conditioning coach at the NCAA Division I level in 2013 and his 24th year overall as a strength coach. He returned to Wyoming after serving in a similar position at the University of Washington from 2005-08.
In addition to overseeing the entire strength and conditioning program at the University of Washington, as the Head Coach for Sports Performance, Greener also worked directly with the Husky Football Team for four seasons (2005-08).
Prior to that, Greener was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for six seasons at Oregon State University from 1999-2004, working with the sports of football and volleyball during his time in Corvallis, Ore. Over that six-year period, Oregon State appeared in five bowl games.
Greener began his career in strength and conditioning as a student assistant at Wyoming in the 1989-90 academic year, while completing his undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science at UW. He then served as a graduate assistant strength coach at Purdue from 1990-92. He moved into a full-time position as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Northern Illinois in 1992, before returning to Wyoming. From 1993-99, Greener was an assistant strength coach at UW, working primarily with the sports of men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's and women's golf and assisting with football. During his time as an assistant at UW, the Cowboys appeared in the 1993 Copper Bowl and the Inaugural Western Athletic Conference Championship game in 1996.
He is both a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a USA Weightlifting (USAW) certified club coach. Greener has also been a presenter at numerous seminars and coaching clinics, as well as having had numerous articles published on a variety of training techniques.
He has coached teams that have made nine postseason appearances during his coaching career, including eight bowl games. He helped the Cowboys earn a bid to the 2011 Gildan New Mexico Bowl, and in his first season back at Wyoming as head strength and conditioning coach in 2009, he was part of the Cowboys' New Mexico Bowl Championship team.
Greener has trained over 30 individuals who went on to sign with NFL teams. The most recent eight Cowboys to receive free-agent opportunities with NFL teams were 2012 Cowboys: Luke Anderson (Washington Redskins), Nick Carlson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Korey Jones (Arizona Cardinals), Josh Leonard (Oakland Raiders), Kyle Magnuson (Oakland Raiders), Chris McNeill (San Diego Chargers), Mike Purcell (San Francisco 49ers) and Kurt Taufa'asau (Oakland Raiders). Each received an invitation to compete in NFL camps following the 2013 NFL Draft.
In 2011, Cowboys Alvester Alexander (Chicago Bears), Josh Biezuns (Chicago Bears), Tashaun Gipson (Cleveland Browns) and Brian Hendricks (Washington Redskins) -- each signed free-agent contracts following the 2012 NFL Draft.
The most recent NFL Draft pick that Greener worked with was former Wyoming free safety Chris Prosinski, who was selected in the Fourth Round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Four Wyoming Cowboys signed free-agent contracts with NFL teams following the 2009 season. Senior defensive tackle John Fletcher signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Linebacker Weston Johnson signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons. Offensive tackle Ryan Otterson joined the San Diego Chargers as a free-agent signee, and defensive end Mitch Unrein signed a free-agent contract with the Houston Texans and has since signed with the Denver Broncos.
A defensive tackle for the Cowboys, Greener was a football lettermen on two Western Athletic Conference Championship teams his junior and senior seasons of 1987 and `88. Those two teams went undefeated in league play, winning 16 consecutive WAC games, and appeared in the 1987 and `88 Holiday Bowls.
A native of New Albany, Ind., Greener completed his bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science at Wyoming in 1990, and earned his master's degree in physical education, also from UW, in 2002.
Greener is married to the former Tina Wheeler, who lettered for the Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball program from 1986-89.

Lake, I don't know if you could tell yet, but some folks here want people just because of their Wyoming ties. (Cough cough keeping Greener cough)
I'm not convinced that Greener has been a great strength and conditioning coach. All of our linemen are constantly getting pushed around. We've got a lot of bodies that need more muscle, and I'm not convinced we've seen enough development from our guys got say, "yes, Greener is the best candidate for the job and we need to keep him."

Tater, if you read what I wrote I said that I'm not convinced. I don't know the answer as to who is better. But what I don't want (and many folks here are perfectly happy with) is for the University to not look for someone who could be better just because we have our guy with Wyoming ties.

If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that there are a lot of things that typically go into why a defense gets pushed around, it isn't one simple thing like blame the S&C guy, like you have done. Technique plays a huge part of performance, and it doesn't matter how strong you are if you have poor technique you will look weak and get pushed around. Leverage is key, having your weight distributed properly, and also getting double teamed like Olive did because he was the ONLY actual DT that played this year. Both Bernthaler and Merten's were DE's that were converted to DT's and it showed, their technique was poor in my opinion and this was a big part of the problem on the DL...guys playing out of position because the coaches hadn't coached up properly. Greener worked for Christensen and Christensen told him how he wanted the guys worked and conditioned. There were so many issues with this defensive front it wasn't funny, and laying it simply on Greener is a clueless thing to do.

Did you for one moment in this post of yours mention that there might be other reasons why our guys are getting "pushed around" other than an incompetent Greener? No. So reading your post it shows that you are attacking him, and it wasn't a show of support. Is there any mention in this post of yours that Greener works for the HC, and in this case Christensen and that he does what Christensen asks him to do? No. Maybe you should read your own posts. My point is that your attack is simplistic and doesn't mention nor seem to understand or much less explain all of the variables why a defensive front gets pushed around. You attack NO ONE but Greener in this post so your own post points to Greener as one that you are not convinced is the right person for the job....and you take nothing else into consideration. You focus and attempt to understand all of the things that might have gone into why the defensive front was so ineffective.
