It looks like we have a qb competition on our hands...

I agree that that loss wasn't Kirk's fault, he was sent in there to manage the game, which he did. He had a decent game (65% pass completion, over 5 yards when he carried the ball). We were, as normal, out-coached. DC had no faith to let him air the ball out (he had only 8 incomplete passes for the game and many of those were to prevent a sack). Cal Poly just ate up the clock and ran the ball down our throats. Which is what I hope we will be doing to our opponents this season. If we have a QB that averages 65% on passing and 5 yards a carry under Bohl's system, we'll be challenging for the conference. Still with our returners seeing the field so little and many practices closed, we really don't know what we have as far as returning QBs are concerned. HS, JC, put up numbers! and wins! first playoff win in his HS history, first bowl win in ASA history, wait till he brings bowls to WYO.. and every level everyone seems to have doubts thats when his best. keep it up!

I hope he does great but you have to understand the skepticism. I realize that Tom Brady was not very athletic either but he was truly a diamond in the ruff. How many other D1 QBs are as slow and as weak as Young? I ask because I really don't know... I hope he proves us all wrong and turns out to be a great QB.

Even if we didn't play the game ourselves, at least we can talk about it. Makes for good cyber chatter! You know, at least fancy ourselves great evaluators of talent.

Wow, my sources tell me something totally different! I guess he ain't a physical specimen by any means, but I know there's only been one throwing session last Wednesday and Thornton dropped out while Young and Kirkagaard kept going. And by what I've been told, Young looks far superior in overall skill including arm strength.Slow Hand said:

- Forte has issues with his throwing mechanics that he's probably had all his life and won't change anytime soon. Needs a lot of work. Not gonna start.
- Nick Smith has about four throws on his film that show anything. Gosh, how many screens and slants not to put on your highlight film? None, unless you don't have much else. Another work in progress for this level. Not gonna start.
- Thornton doesn't have the tools.
- Kirkegaard has some throwing ability, but hasn't played any significant snaps in a long time. My guess is he has no concept of reading college level defenses.
- Young from his film has great fundamentals, good arm strength, and it looks like he's actually reading defenses...what a concept! That would account for his high td to int ratio, not the safe game manager throws one might think. I'll take 25 or 30 passing td's and single digit int's any day and hand the ball off to the running backs. If he benefits from the outstanding strength and conditioning program and get's in a rhythm with his receivers as the winter goes along, it'll be a one man race at the end of spring ball.
Just my opinion of course.
