It looks like we have a qb competition on our hands...

Really?? I mean I haven't seen him at all or anything, but Tommy and Kirk showed absolutely nothing when they saw the field. Tommy is a little bit unknown, but with Kirk, not saying it's his fault, we had our only loss to an FCS team in school history and he clearly looked like he didn't belong on an FBS field.
I agree that that loss wasn't Kirk's fault, he was sent in there to manage the game, which he did. He had a decent game (65% pass completion, over 5 yards when he carried the ball). We were, as normal, out-coached. DC had no faith to let him air the ball out (he had only 8 incomplete passes for the game and many of those were to prevent a sack). Cal Poly just ate up the clock and ran the ball down our throats. Which is what I hope we will be doing to our opponents this season. If we have a QB that averages 65% on passing and 5 yards a carry under Bohl's system, we'll be challenging for the conference. Still with our returners seeing the field so little and many practices closed, we really don't know what we have as far as returning QBs are concerned. It'll be fun seeing who comes out on top.

If Colby is the quarterback I doubt we win a game. He wouldn't have played for my high school team.

Liking Nick Smith a lot. Good size. Built like Brock Jensen from NDSU

lol keep sleeping on young. already putting in work behind doors worked with nico this weekend. alot of you are messing a huge part of this. WYO is now "Pro Style" young knows this system already. basic same calls with some additions. he'll be way ahead by summer. Smith had 14 tds? Young had 30 his senior year.. in CALIFORNIA. come on. he may be behind psychically but youre not gonna see your qb run for 500+ yards anymore this is legit drop back stuff. Smith is not a pro style guy. it comes down to Kolby or Young. just keep sleeping tho.

I know he has been putting in work "behind doors", that is where I watched him. He is not athletic, and slow. I hope I am wrong because a lot of people have pinned some pretty high expectations on this kid. I am not impressed with his arm strength at all......

like i said, this is a pro style system, we're not talking 40 yard dashes and read options, game speed and ability to get out of the pokcet when needed is there. the only thing is yeah he's behind pyschically i get that, but arm strength he has is all natural, wait till he adds the d1 weight by working with these trainers. its all good everyone has an opinion, but you cant argue stats. go look his up. HS, JC, put up numbers! and wins! first playoff win in his HS history, first bowl win in ASA history, wait till he brings bowls to WYO.. and every level everyone seems to have doubts thats when his best. keep it up!

Tom Brady ran a 5.28 40 and had a 24 1/2 inch vertical at the combine. I'm not going to write off Aaron Young, but he has a lot to prove.

I hope he does great but you have to understand the skepticism. I realize that Tom Brady was not very athletic either but he was truly a diamond in the ruff. How many other D1 QBs are as slow and as weak as Young? I ask because I really don't know... I hope he proves us all wrong and turns out to be a great QB.

Touche'

Great thing about message boards, you can pretty much voice your thoughts & opinions for others to share &/or disagree with. Oh, and you don't know if certain posters used to be QB's / Coaches / Players / Boosters / Douchey Students / Etc.

Thank You Slow Hand. Yep, as the saying goes..."opinions are like #@#holes, everybody has one." And, we as free Americans are entitled to them...even if they may be unsubstantiated, partially right, or just flat out wrong.

Even if we didn't play the game ourselves, at least we can talk about it. Makes for good cyber chatter! You know, at least fancy ourselves great evaluators of talent.

Bad analogy above. " ...#@#holes, everbody has one, AND THEY ARE ALL PRETTY MUCH THE SAME..."

Not so for opinions.

Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, and they all stink.

Unfortunately there is a percentage of our population that actually enjoys the asshole. :winky:

I don't see any of the incumbent QBs winning the starting job, or keeping it for long if they do. JMO.

I hope this young man from Florida is a lot better than the dude we brought in from New York. IDK maybe he is a gamer, but to me he just doesn't look like he has the skill set to get it done. First impressions are never completely accurate though I understand that.
Curious where you got your first impression.

Wow, my sources tell me something totally different! I guess he ain't a physical specimen by any means, but I know there's only been one throwing session last Wednesday and Thornton dropped out while Young and Kirkagaard kept going. And by what I've been told, Young looks far superior in overall skill including arm strength.

Are you a coach or player, or do you just hang around the college in the mornings for kicks?

Just my opinion of course.

- Forte has issues with his throwing mechanics that he's probably had all his life and won't change anytime soon. Needs a lot of work. Not gonna start.
- Nick Smith has about four throws on his film that show anything. Gosh, how many screens and slants not to put on your highlight film? None, unless you don't have much else. Another work in progress for this level. Not gonna start.
- Thornton doesn't have the tools.
- Kirkegaard has some throwing ability, but hasn't played any significant snaps in a long time. My guess is he has no concept of reading college level defenses.
- Young from his film has great fundamentals, good arm strength, and it looks like he's actually reading defenses...what a concept! That would account for his high td to int ratio, not the safe game manager throws one might think. I'll take 25 or 30 passing td's and single digit int's any day and hand the ball off to the running backs. If he benefits from the outstanding strength and conditioning program and get's in a rhythm with his receivers as the winter goes along, it'll be a one man race at the end of spring ball.

Just my opinion of course.
