It looks like we have a qb competition on our hands...

Thorton, Kirkegard, and Young have the leg up since they're already in Laramie, lifting weights, and going to be participating in spring ball.

We'll have to see if Smith or Fort can come in and knock them off. Here's a good article on Smith.

My how the quarterback outlook has changed. With the departures of our starting and backup quarterbacks the future looked bleak. Now we're going to have a genuine battle for the starting spot. Not a bad problem to have.

Tommy wins that battle hands down.

Fort will redshirt, IMO.

Smith - he may be the actual test for Tommy.

Worth pointing out for guys that want to see stars (I know they mean nothing but they're still nice to have) ESPN has Fort and Smith both rated as 3 stars. I'd rather have them than not after all we've gone through at QB this offseason. Oh yeah, and they're rated the same as another Smith.

Now that Young is on campus and working out with the team my opinions of his athleticism have become even more cemented into place. He is slow, weak and soft. If I had to pick right now, and I know it is early, I would say of the three Kirkegard is at the forefront. I hope Smith and Fort are considerably better than the three that are there now....WOW.

I don't see any of the incumbent QBs winning the starting job, or keeping it for long if they do. JMO.

I hope this young man from Florida is a lot better than the dude we brought in from New York. IDK maybe he is a gamer, but to me he just doesn't look like he has the skill set to get it done. First impressions are never completely accurate though I understand that.

Just based off film Smith is my initial favorite. I could see us starting Young, with Smith overtaking him. Fort will redshirt. Pretty much a replay of 09, hopefully with the same ending.

Man, I don't see Young being better than Tommy or Colby.......

Really?? I mean I haven't seen him at all or anything, but Tommy and Kirk showed absolutely nothing when they saw the field. Tommy is a little bit unknown, but with Kirk, not saying it's his fault, we had our only loss to an FCS team in school history and he clearly looked like he didn't belong on an FBS field.

There are some evaluators high on Fort. I don't think we can rule out anyone as the starting QB next year. I just don't see any upside to going with Kirkeegard considering he will be a 5th year senior and we have already seen his arm.

It is a true quarterback competition...but as the saying goes "if you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks." I hope we see one of the five bury the competition ala Brett Smith,

I think we might be overlooking Tommy. We haven't seen much of him except at the end of games...either win or loss....Sure he didn't really do anything out there but he never got much of a chance. I do know that the previous staff was pretty high on him and they did know something about qb's. Not saying he will be the answer cuz I don't know anything but we might be dismissing him too early.

I think the winner is going to be a surprise to people. It kind of reminds me of the Pittser/Smith battle. If history is any indication, the guy that has the most time in the offense has a leg up. The guy that prepares the best has a huge advantage.

I still think I like Young early, but he will be tested in fall camp by Fort and Smith.

I've got the same opinion here. We didn't see much at all out of Thornton last season. He may have been #2 on the depth chart, but that was obviously because the other 2 QB's were redshirting. He does have game experience, albeit very little game experience, which goes a long way in spring ball. I'm curious to see what he can do.

I don't believe that Kirkegaard redshirting had anything to do with the staff's intent to have him back for an extra season at QB. It appeared that he just happened to get no playing time and by virtue thereof redshirted. I may be wrong. I just don't remember ever seeing anything about an intent to redshirt Kirkegaard.

You're probably right. One thing I think we can all agree on: Captain Kirk is NOT the answer at QB this season.

That's some high praise coming from the coaches quoted in that article. I certainly wouldn't be against a QB named Smith taking the snaps for us is history is any indicator

lol keep sleeping on young. already putting in work behind doors worked with nico this weekend. alot of you are messing a huge part of this. WYO is now "Pro Style" young knows this system already. basic same calls with some additions. he'll be way ahead by summer. Smith had 14 tds? Young had 30 his senior year.. in CALIFORNIA. come on. he may be behind psychically but youre not gonna see your qb run for 500+ yards anymore this is legit drop back stuff. Smith is not a pro style guy. it comes down to Kolby or Young. just keep sleeping tho.

I know he has been putting in work "behind doors", that is where I watched him. He is not athletic, and slow. I hope I am wrong because a lot of people have pinned some pretty high expectations on this kid. I am not impressed with his arm strength at all......

Yeah IDK...right now though we don't appear to have a clear cut leader. I just don't think Young is the answer........we will see. If nothing else competition is good!
