Is the Shyatt contract finalized

We know he wants to retire here and opted for less money for himself so that they would have more for recruiting and for the assistant coaches. Maybe it's for bumping up the money there? I don't know.

it's getting to the point that they need to really see the future of our team and program, in order to be successful we have to compensate those assistants as they truly are the glue that holds this program together, give Larry 8-10 more years but we have to have a truly cohesive unit to be successful....Get it done Burman and right

I don't know anything and maybe something is going on but the feeling I get is that they just haven't sat down to finalize it yet. Everyone is busy and it isn't something that has to get done today so they aren't rushing. They probably shouldn't have announced that they were working on it until it was done cuz it does look bad that it is takin so lon gto get finished.

Oh ye of blind optimism in our AD...

There shouldn't be a hang up, and this shouldn't take as long as it has (going on 3 months now).

I won't buy the "trustees" approval excuse that is coming our way, as that can be done on a conference call.

I bet if Wyoming football just won a MWC championship, and an extension was in "the works" at the culmination of the season, it would have been signed, sealed, and delivered in about a week.

He's already under contract through 19-20, and there's really no worry of him going elsewhere. It's only been two months since the initial report came out.

If we're sitting here in the summer of 19 and there's still no extension signed, then we can start to worry. But not now...

I do find it a little disturbing that we can get immediate automatic 20 year contract extensions to a guy like Heath Schroyer for trying to burn our gym down to the ground and drive our fans away for life. Yet when we have our first real coach with major success in a decade we aren't looking to pounce on getting him and his staff locked in comfortably??? What gives? Get this deal done and let us continue to watch our hoops program rise.

20 year extension? I highly doubt that.

Obviously over embellishing a tab but who cares. Where else do you get more job security/paid more to fail, have meltdowns, and depress an entire fanbase? I think that was during a recession too. So why isn't our AD stepping up and trying to get some brownie points now when its the ultimate feel good scenario of our vastly depleted Poke's feel good reservoir?

I wasn't here at the time, but looking back at the Wyoming history, they finished with 19 wins the year before. Premature, with only a 7-9 MW season? Probably. But Shyatt had only recorded a 9-9 conference record when his deal was extended last summer, so I'm not sure how it's that far off.

The problem isn't that the parties haven't talked, the problem is not that the trustees need to sign off (they really don't until after the fact due to Burman's budget authority), and the problem is not that Shyatt is asking for too much money. In fact Shyatt just wants enough years so that no one can use his contract and age to recruit against us. This is all about the staff, their years and their compensation.

Dave Christensen received a contract extension simply because Houston may or may not have wanted to interview him. I suppose negotiations were underway with him back then, but when it came to nut cutting time Burman got that deal signed in a matter of hours.

This athletic department, going back to Brandy, has ALWAYS valued football more than basketball. That's the reason that more than $90 million will have been poured into football facilities between 2000 and 2020 while the Arena sits unfinished because they were over budget by $3 million. And you can bet your goddamn life that if football won a conference title last year Craig Bohl would have had an extension in his inbox less than three days later.

I am told, and I believe, that there are reasons this isn't done, and in my opinion they are all stupid, pointless, shortsighted and the fault of the administration. If Burman and/or McGinity wanted this done by today it would be done by today. The fact that it's not two months after they announced they were in negotiations tells you all you need to know.

Thanks for the info Cup.

Kinda pisses me off about the administration. Hope Shyatt gets everything he wants and needs. Guy is a great coach and a good guy and deserves for the University to treat him as good as any of the football staff or program.

Well hopefully it will get done soon.

guess there's rumors out there and that Larry has asked for something that NO coach in program history has ever asked for and that's the hang up, truly wondering what the heck the stall is??? Hmmm...????

Has something to do with the assistant coaches. Im guessing it is length of their contract in addition to raises. Aren't Assistant coaches usually on a year to year contract? MAybe he wants to give them more security with longer contracts.

What's the big damn rush. Shy stayed here AFTER Florida and OKC. Hes not going anywhere.

I'm guessing it has to do with the recently state approved money for budget items. They want to make sure that money is permanent since the things Shy is negotiating for are yearly expenses.

There's a reason why the football coaching search and the Shy extension are on hold. They don't have the money yet but will when its done.

I say take your time and get it right.
