Is it smart for Hill to stay?

Okay so I'm a huge Hill fan and I've been following him since High School. I've been reading some of the comments on this board about how it would be stupid for him to leave. Do you guys really believe that or are you just saying that because he can't help Wyoming by pursuing his dream? I heard from one of his high school coaches that he's being bombarded by so many agents that he had to put his mom in charge of talking to them. I don't really think it's smart for him to come take 30 carries a game again. I bet his body takes such a beating and he's done enough to prove himself.

I really just want honest and not biased opinions.

Chill son. Only a few people would say he's "stupid to leave". And those people are talked down from their position.

Most of us would prefer he stay, as this draft class is going to be loaded with runningbacks. And it never hurts to help ease in the next guy up next year, since the backup this year, Shawn Wick, is a senior.

However, if he does declare, we will wish him luck, and follow him as best we can. At least I will, anyway.

From a financial potential earnings standpoint... It could cost hill anywhere from 1 million to 10 million by leaving early, just an estimate. Probability % wise, his contract this year will be undervalued. Next year his contract would be over valued.

That's just due to the depth of the running back class

Actually, the consenus opinion seems to be that the NFL opportunity will be there for him and that he should take it. That is very unusual for a college sports message board.

Hill is almost certainly gone. He has had a fantastic career and has an opportunity in the next month to finalize himself as a legend at the University of Wyoming. He will be fondly remembered for a long time.

Disagree. It is very difficult to project even the 2017 class, much less where 2018 will shake out. Remeber, as a RB he has very finite years of earning power, so every year he stays in school is basically one fewer year of earning power. Even if he goes a couple of rounds later, he more than makes up for it with an extra year of productivity.

The difference between a 4th round pick and a 6th round pick is something like $500k over 4 years. It's not that much.

Selfishly, I would like to see one more year of Brian Hill in the Brown and Gold, but I fully support him and wish him the best of luck if he decides to declare early and enter the draft.

That's great to hear. But like I said in another thread David Johnson jumped over a lot of RBs in the same draft. And it's gonna be hard for this kid to pass up his dream with a 3rd-4th round projection

And I've seen stuff like "don't be another Brett Smith" they are 2 different people playing two different positions

Would you rather them say don't be Alvester Alexander?

In the end only Brian knows what the right choice for Brian is........I just hope he realizes that agents don't give 2 shits about you.....if an agent signs 12 guys in a year and only one of them gets into the league and makes the minimum for 3-4 years then he's got a chunk of change.......if he does this every year, he's got a hell of a career going.......but he certainly doesn't give a shit which one of the dozen does it for him

Of course Brian has a ton of agents wooing him.....he's been in the top five nearly all season for ypg......I would bet that most of the agents trying to contact him just printed off the NCAA stat sheet and are calling every junior and senior in the top 20 on that list

They're basically just used car salesman with nicer suits

He's not getting into the upper rounds this year, I believe he could be a second rounder next year, and that has value. Agree to disagree. Loved having hill and will always be a fan. What i believe, what u believe, doesn't matter at all. It's his decision, but I hope he surrounds himself with people that have his best interests long term. Agents are in the business for themselves. These are decisions that father and son make... Or mother and son. The highlight should be, what's your back up plan?

I think everyone would like to see Hill stay. He is a great football player and a true representative of the University and the Great State of Wyoming. Wyoming does have some good running backs waiting in the wings. Especially Kellen Overstreet, who should be really exciting to see next year hopefully running behind Hill, or if Hill does leave then the featured back.
Lets enjoy every game we get to see Hill in a Wyoming Uniform starting with Saturday's game.

Always take the money/contract, as it's a big and fast chunk of change that he will probably never make in his life again. But...the problem is there is no guarantee of a contract waiting for him. We all think there is, but you never know. He's rolling the dice just like any other college player, other than the serious blue chip players. Play the odds, come out now, probably get drafted, and hope for the best. Or wait a year, hope you don't get injured and probably get drafted higher. He could get injured on Saturday. He needs an advisor, not an agent. Is there such a thing? If not, roll the dice Brian and good luck!

Competitively speaking, I'd like him back. But with the style team we are building, I feel Overstreet will step in and put up similar numbers. Having a do everything quarterback opens a lot of opportunity for the running backs. And we have a do everything quarterback, at least for next season when he decides to leave!

Whatever he decides I'm fine with. He's a Wyoming legend. He's given a lot to this program and we were lucky to have him.

I would love to see Brian stay, but am not counting on it. His Twitter page has the NFL logo as the background image with these comments:

"So close to reaching my dreams . I just gotta survive the bumps in the road and keep God by my side. Cowboy Football. Number 5."

Wishing him the best no matter which decision he makes.

(Actually, I'd love to see Brian announce that he's coming back so that Boise and CS-ewe, among others, can start peeing down their legs with the thought of Josh and Brian in the backfield.)

At the beginning of the year, I thought maybe, if we had a decent season, he'd be back. I thought if we showed progress he'd want to finish what he started. Don't think that anymore. He's gone. If he's really NFL talent, he'll make plenty of money. If he's borderline, he'll get some money and have a short career. Sure, he might have left some on the table but it sure beats getting injured and getting nothing.

Gents,

How about we just enjoy every game we get to see with him this season. The season is too magical to look ahead to doom and gloom. Brian plays too hard for us and though I would be sad to see him go, lets enjoy everytime he runs over a poor defender. He still has a lot left to prove this season so let's enjoy this season because lord knows we have Cowboys have been yearning for a team like this for a long time. We have never recruited the most talented players, but this team is as blue collar as it gets.

I just want him to play in another 3 meaningful games this season and remain healthy.

Beyond that, I really hope he goes on to have an amazing pro career regardless of when he leaves us, because that should have a positive impact on recruiting.

One important thing to consider is what an NFL payday would mean to his family. Would be hard to blame him for leaving. A reminder: http://trib.com/sports/college/wyoming/football/from-east-st-louis-beginnings-running-back-brian-hill-finds/article_9e821b64-3fe1-5e1b-aebe-bf13412ba5a4.html (TL;DR: Hill's single mother is raising five kids while putting herself through nursing school.)

How much better will Hill get by staying another year? He can get more ripped, but how many running backs are as NFL ready as Hill in this draft?

What does he risk losing if he stays another year and what does he stand to gain?

I just can't see him staying, and don't blame him if he doesn't. If him and his family are ready to get paid, I can't say I blame them.

Unlike Brett Smith and Alvester Alexander, I've got a really good feeling that Brian Hill will not only stick on an NFL roster, but will be the starter there in no time.

He could come back behind a line that is going to maul people next year to try and set the NCAA record, while competing on a team with a real chance to make the biggest Wyoming bowl game since the 1960's, but he's got more to gain going to the NFL.

I think he's gone, but I think Wyoming will be fine runnning the ball. Milo Hall tore it up in camp this year, Overstreet is back, and we've got a couple of burner recruits on their way in.

Hopefully, when it's all said and done, Hill will be the first in a new pipeline of Wyoming NFL talent and will look back fondly on his experience here when we're renovating the west side of the War with a significant contribution to the new Brian Hill press box. ;)

Gotta make the money when you can. If he's projected to be an early draft, get paid, and move on to the next level he's foolish not to. I have a million selfish reasons why I want him to stay, but he's gotta go for it if he gets the chance.
