Is Grandy Glaze Wyoming's next Dunk Town all-star?

GCU is a for-profit university and they are pumping money into athletics to boost the profile of the school. They are the only for-profit school competing in D-I. This is like if DeVry University established a central campus and started an athletics program. I am very, very skeptical of that institution and think things will go badly there eventually.

I just think of cheesy late night infomercial type stuff when I think of a "school" like that.

However, their coaching staff is out recruiting us while playing in arguably the weakest conference in the country and not being eligible for the NCAA tourney. Have to give their athletics credit.

I also question the validity of an institution that has an "enrollment" of over 44,000 students, but only about 9,000 are actually on campus. This is nothing more than an online diploma mill with a basketball team. I'm pretty sure Glaze saw an opportunity to soak up some sun, be BMOC, and not have to work too hard in a classroom. What's next, a football program for the University of Phoenix? :willybs:

I think the word you are looking for is "recruited...not recruiting". They out recruited us for one guy...a 5th year senior. I seriously doubt that they would "out recruit" us on a regular basis.

I guess we will see how amazing either Vernon or Glaze really are when they match up against us in Vegas early next season...

I was thinking the same thing. Should be an interesting game now. Multiple story lines. Don't think for a second that our guys won't have a chip on their shoulder and really want to beat up on two guys who said UW wasn't good enough. Cant wait.

We may not play them. We play Marshall and they play Houston on 12/21 and then the two winners and the two losers match up on 12/22. Houston should be much improved and handle GCU easily, so if we beat Marshall we should play Houston instead of GCU.

Obviously Glaze is the only recruit we have battled head to head but they have also brought in Dominic Magee as a transfer this year (mid-year) who was a 4-star player out of HS (transferred to GCU from Memphis) and have added a number of high level transfers (Daniel Alexander, Royce Woolridge). It's kind of like trying to compare us to CSU in the context that they clearly recruit a lot of transfers and we don't so it's apples to oranges.

The thing is though, is that there is zero comparison between the institutions. UW is a well respected land grant research institution and flagship campus. GCU is an on-line diploma mill. They should be competing with Johnson and Wales or something for players instead of programs like Wyoming and New Mexico and yet here they are. I never thought I would see the day that a MWC school, UW or otherwise, lost a recruit to GCU.
