Is anyone really surprised at this point?

Ok, so the negative nancies have been out and had their say. Yes, we got beaten by a good Texas team, and trounced by an even better Boise State. But is anyone really surprised? So far, we've beaten the team we were supposed to beat, and lost to the teams we were supposed to lose to. We came out relatively healthy and hopefully learning something by seeing these guys first hand. Now we get to open our conference season with a good Air Force team that we should be able to play with. AF/WYO is almost always a good, competitive, hard-nosed football game. It should be fun to watch.

That said, we've got to improve in a couple of areas. First and foremost, we have got to tackle better. I think some of the poor tackling the last two games may have to do with the speed on the other side, but the point remains. I also think the defense is trying to strip the ball too often, which leads to not being able to wrap a guy up. Just get him on the ground and worry about turnovers later.

Second, our Lines on both sides have got to step up. Yes, ACS is good on his feet. That doesn't mean he needs to be running for his life every play! I think the line will improve as the season progresses, but they've got to take some big steps quickly. On D, we've got to get a pass rush going. Bot QB's the last two weeks had all day to find their targets. They've also got to learn to get off their man and plug the hole. You may not stop the guy, but I'm tired of seeing our safeties stop the run game.

Still, I see improvement being made each year, and I think DC is still putting the right pieces in place. We'll be ok, as long as we learn from the last two weeks, and go in prepard for AF. Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

GO POKES!

My thoughts exactly Wellpoke! Couldn't have said it any better. I think everyone was just hoping that we had made a giant leap and might actually give Texas or Boise a run for their money. I think some people are little more disappointed than they should. We are where we all thought we would be right now.

After this post, I am officially over the Boise game, but that showing on Saturday was a piss pounding of epic proportions! No one realistically thought we would be 3-0 at this point, but we should've hoped there would be a little pride and preparation put forward to not step on their dicks at home and on national TV. Boise is good, no doubt, but this was our house and I don't think the 'Boys would've beaten anyone in D1A on Saturday. After basically 14 years of mediocrity to downright ineptness, I don't think it is wrong to get pissed when it rears it's ugly head again. As fans we don't have to figuratively and continually get kicked square in the nuts just because we love Wyoming football.

Time to regroup and find a way to beat AFA - they've been ripe for the pickin' the last few years but they are pretty scary right now - could be the season turner!

You forgot a crucial adverb - barely. Should read "...we've [barely] beaten the team we were suppose to beat..."

So you were at the game, huh? Isn't there some division 2 or 3 board you can troll?

What is this Bozeman bobcat douchenozzle fan doing here, no action at the meth infested Cat's Paw?

I was at the game. It was not pretty.

SUU was a close game because we opened up the playbook enough to use about 4 or 5 plays. No way we were gonna show Texas and Boise our hand against SUU.

Our defense has not really improved since SUU. At all.

What hand was that?
They didn't need to. We have a crappy poker face. Makes an enthusiastic child look like a pro at poker.

It wasn't the back of our hand! :)

Didn't intend to come off as such a douche toward you - thanks for finding my humor through my previous bitching :D

I think it's rather clear where the problem areas are with this team...namely both the offensive and defensive lines. Personally, I don't expect to see much improvement in either of the lines, as these are the best players we have at this point. Thus, I think our run offense and run defense are going to be our weaknesses all year long. This next recruiting class is going to be crucial in determining whether we take a step forward or not. We need some immediate help and that is most likely to come from the JC ranks. I wouldn't be surprised to see 5-6 JUCO guys signed to help out on the lines immediately. Anyways, on to the Air Force game...

I actually like the way we match up with Air Force a lot. We have the speed on the edge to keep their option game in check as long as we are able to make the tackles. Our defense has actually been pretty sound from an assignment stand point, and that is critical anytime you are playing an option team. One of the reasons we have done so well on defense against Air Force in the past few years is because we have had a secondary that is very good at supporting our run defense, and we have that again this year. The key on defense will be whether or not our interior D-line can stuff the FB dive part of the triple option. If not, Air Force will pound it up the middle all day long and then take shots to the outside once we make adjustments to stop them up the middle. I could see us holding them to under 17 points though. Will we be able to score more than that? I'm not sure.

Man you're really defensive. I must have hit a sore spot. I guarantee you if I could, I would still be in Bozeman, watching quality football, but unfortunately I'm stuck here for a couple of years, watching JV football. The truth hurts, you apparently just can't deal with it. About the only thing Wyoming has going for it is great academics in certain programs (it obvioulsy isn't football).

I don't think it's wrong either, and I was upset with the outcome as well. However, I came to realize pretty quickly that it's probably the way it would have played out regardless, and I would have been upset with a 50-35 loss as well.

My point is that we are probably pretty close to where we should be, survived the toughest part of our schedule relatively unscathed, and should be able to look forward to a good game with AF. We've got steps to take no question, but I think we'll start to see those steps being taken now.

Part of me also wonders if the coaching staff wasn't holding back in the early part of the season. No proof of that and I don't really know, but I think DC knows we need to get to the top of the conference before we start looking like world-beaters. Just a thought.

GO POKES!

Quit being a dbag. If you think Montana State is a quality football program and Wyoming is a JV team in comparison, you are doing nothing but trying to start trouble. It has been YEARS since Wyoming has lost to a FCS level team. I would hate to see what the score would have been if Montana State were to face anyone the level of Texas and Boise back to back.

ps. Does Montana State have it's own board for you to play on?

You are right I am defensive. I am pro-Wyoming, always have been, always will be.

Instead of arguing you back into the hole you crawled out from, I think it is just better to tell you...

Fuck off asshole.

JV huh? Isn't Division 1AA the JV of college football? Wyoming has never lost to a 1AA team, and they beat down Furman when they were national runners up in 1AA. Yep were having issues, but Im proud to be a wyo fan and I would rather play in a lower tier bowl and still get the chance to play with the big teams then be the JV of college football. (JV= D1aa or FCS or whatever the fuck its called these days).

PS Didn't MSU lose to Chadron st a couple years ago?

lol.. MSU a quality program? When's the last time they made the playoffs? How about that half empty Bobcat Stadium on gameday? Didn't MSU lose to Humboldt State?
