alright, so now I can talk ratings of qbs in the mountain west. Ive seen enough to make my statements
1. carr
2. smith
3. fales
4,5 tied keeton and southwick
carr is the most polished passer, which is the main attribute most nfl teams are looking for. arm strength is the best in the mountain west, and on par aaron murray if not better. effortless in his delivery, looks smooth and natural, no kinks or hitches in his throwing motion. can make any throw, and can change his ball speed for different routes.
smith is the most complete package, but not the best in any category except for throwing on the move. smith is the best rolling passer in the mountain west. good size... makes very good reads, and can cycle through his progression.
fales is second to carr on arm strength and deep accuracy. doesn't move as well as keeton or smith... and really needs too with the team around him. with equal talent at the next level, he will be drafted.
keeton and southwick will struggle to be drafted... unless something happens. they might find success in the free agent market. keeton can't make a throw to a flaring running back, has trouble changing velocity, and stares down his primary target. another bad habit that keeton has, is that under pressure he evades backwards first; instead of laterally or upfield. he loses ground first but has the speed at the collegiate level to make it work. brett almost always steps forward in the pocket under pressure, the breaks laterally, which is a habit that works for the nfl.
southwick needs some time, and I think he is getting better. but around these other qbs, he is a game manager and not a star.
