If Burman truly is flying to Detroit via commercial

Lol......Since this becoming like a game of clue I'm saying Burman lands Tedford. 1-Since being reported he was on top of Wyo list of candidates there has been no report he has withdrawn his name or turned us down 2-Fresno HC is going nowhere else this year 3-Got to believe he wants coach with D-1 experience as HC. There is no other program reporting their guy is leaving for Wyo. So Xmas comes early we land Tedford. I may be wrong but this makes as much sense as anybody else's hunch on here
:willybs:

I'd be a glorious hunch if true. Personally, I'm setting myself up for disappointment so hopefully I can be pleasantly surprised.

That right there is wisdom!

Hope for the best, expect the worst, and drink copiously.

Ask yourself this, would Gilmore even be considered if he did not go to Wyoming?

The answer to this question in my mind is overwhelmingly no.

I'll say it again...going after this guy make absolutely no sense what-so-ever!!! This guys has been the head coach of 157 games and has a whopping 51% winning record. If this doesn't scream mediocre, then I don't know what does....

The point is not his overall record but the trajectory of his wins per season. I would expect year one to be worse than the last year of each stop if he is a program rebuilder. Think about it, 3-9 in year #1 combined with 9-3 in a later year average out to .500, but that is the kind of trend we are after.

I like the idea of both pro-style and spread with a bias toward pro-style because I think it lends itself to closing out games down the stretch and because it allows more flexibility in blizzards.

Frankly any hire is going to be a major risk at this program. DC looked like an incredible hire for us, and look at how that worked out. Even if we bring in a guy like Tedford who knows if he can translate his success at Cal to winning at a school like Wyoming.

If we do hire Gilmore I will support him and give him a chance to see if it works out. The positives of him are that he was known as a good recruiter for the 6 years at Nebraska, and could bring that here. He also truly loves this school and would put his heart and soul into trying to turn this program around. That can also help selling it to recruits that you have a coach that truly loves the school and state. He has been a coach long enough to have some connections toward putting in a staff.

The question obviously is can he be the head man and run a program? That is a question nobody can answer unless he gets his shot at it. We can all hope for him to win, but who really knows if it would fail or work out. Sometimes the hires that look good on paper fail and some out of the box ones work out. Here is to hoping whoever we get pays off.

Look at where Clawson has spent his career. He's an east coast coach that probably doesn't have the contacts to put together a staff capable of recruiting the players necessary for success out here. He's not going to convince kids from Ohio, Illinois, etc into coming out to UW to play football.

I actually think recruiting Ohio, Illinois, and points north makes sense. Also, Richmond is arguably in the South where some seriously good recruits come out of. Richmond even plays in the CAA, which is the eastern version of the Big Sky in terms of competitiveness.

We sell the Upper Midwestern players (who are used to the cold and snow) on the Mountains and sunshine all winter long. It worked out well for us with Marcus Harris and Ryan Yarborough. On the other hand, mountains and sunshine are a tough pitch to make to the guys coming up out of Texas and So. Cal.

It probably is Gilmore as if you put this together with what Dino posted then you get Gilmore.

Not good.

One thing I particularly like about this option is that Gilmore has worked in the NFL, and I would think that should sell well to recruits. Not all of the candidates we are rumored to be considering have an NFL gig on their resumes.

Wonder why he flew commercial...
Hopefully because it cost to much to fly a private plane all the way to Hawaii to get Tedford.
Or the University could have played a trick on him with a one way ticket.
Either way im good

I said to myself last night watching the BGSU game that he would look really good walking the sideline in brown and gold. I like his attitude and his success everywhere makes me think he could really help our team. AND, he would be starting his first year with arguably the most talented QB hes had....he could do some really good things. I like him as an option.

According to Vorel, Brock Spack of Illinois State is a finalist.
Who? Jesus Christ we're a joke. I can't believe we're in FBS if that's the type of candidate we can get.

Remember the last black guy to coach in Laramie....Joby Wright. That went well.

Your paintbrush is way too broad. This is not 1940s Mississippi. I was not a Joby Wrong fan, but we are stupid to conclude that Ted Gilmore = Joby Wrong as a coach based on nothing more than melanin. We would be equally stupid to pick a coach, or not pick a coach, based on hair color.

I do not think that there really is an exciting potential coach out there to pursue this year, so I will be underwhelmed no matter what.
