Ideas for the student section.

I always liked this one which tons of schools use

Nah I'm jokin. But on a serious note, the students are definitely not into ACDC today. They (not me) like stupid shit. Playing ACDC at a game would fall into the mold of "old time wyoming thinking".
And actually...don't they play thunderstruck at games already???

It's amazing how clueless you can be sometimes. He used AC/DC as an example of something timeless, classic. While you may not care for the band or their music, the majority of people between 14 and 54 would pretty much agree that many of their songs are classic as is evidenced by their use in many public venues and the sports milieu in general. Your reply was very much along the lines of an eyeroll at "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", "Start Me Up", "Rock and Roll Part 2", etc. and paints you as a person of very short situational and cultural awareness. Might want to reserve your opinion on certain things until you're shaving every day and they've both dropped.

Literally every person in the gym turned and pointed at the guy without saying a word. Utah State has some of the best student section support in Basketball they never lack student support.

it's worth a visit, i had a good time there, their arena reminded me of a large living room...lol

Yup been there not a grand arena but atmosphere was amazing, Some schools just have good student support but the one thing they all have in common is there is one leader or one group of leaders that get it all going and w/o them it would just be students at a game.

That is what we currently lack is a student section leader but maybe one will show up.

Don't know why, but it reminds me of my cousin's cheers that she does (cheerleader in high school, father in denial that she's a teen).
 
One thing I've noticed is when the students try to get the "Defense" cheer going they start it off way to fast. It naturally speeds up as you go, so you have to set the interval further apart at the beginning or it will dissipate before the possession is over.

General yelling while on defense is good too. I always wanted to do an EEEEEEHHHHHH, then OOOOOHHHHH, when the ball is passed. change sounds for each pass the defense makes - just yelling the whole time on defense. When yelling like that as soon as a player goes up for a shot everyone yell SHOT!

We used to have chants for specific players anytime they would touch the ball. Air Ball obviously for one who dos that. But also things like Haircut, or stand up for a short player. we'd sometimes do research - find if a guy has some legal trouble etc. and use that. If a guy gets dunked on may a few rounds of who's your daddy.

W-Y-O is a good one that the whole crowd can get into - again you have to pace yourself as it tends to naturally speed up.

For those not in the student section (myself included these days) remember you can join in and do some yelling too. I'm getting excited for the DU game.
 
Maybe we should come up with a list of chants we want to hear and distribute that with the BI's. The leader makes sure the chants get in the rotation.

That's it. I'm coming to a game deep in the front row of the student section dressed like Butch Cassidy. Anybody else willing to get gussied up old west style for SDSU this year?

That brings up a point.

What would you like Wyoming's student section to be called?

I kind of like the Wild Bunch, in honor of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids gang.

Yeah I like the Oxygen one also.

I think after they spell out O-X-Y-G-E-N and say where the hell is your OXYGEN... all of the students should then put their hands around their necks and pretend they're choking ...and start chanting CHOKE, CHOKE, CHOKE lol
 
Obviously the big east chant is for this season only. The oxygen chant has staying power. I like the idea of rhythm chants. Like having a chant based around the pink floyd song brick in the wall. Something like this:

At the end of the game... when its clear we should win.

Like brick in the wall: "now that we have beat your ass.... hey.... driver... go start your damn bus!"

So much fun to have making the wild bunch nasty!

Wild Bunch has a good ring to it.

Couple of others- "Hell's Half Acre". Kind of a throwback, but conjures an image while acknowledging the past.

"The Bucket of Blood" was Laramie's most notorious den of inequity the year of its founding. The corrupt mayor and his officers ran things from there while robbing and garroting unsuspecting "customers". It stood where the parking lot currently is on the northeast corner of 1st and Garfield. After the mayor and his henchmen were lynched it went on to be used as the courtroom that seated the first female jurors in the world and was where Grandma Swain became the first woman to vote.
