Ideas for the student section.

The biggest thing the students can do is have a leader or group of leaders that will organize chants. They should research the opposing players, read their biographies, read the coachs' bios, etc... Those bios are full of information that can be used to target the enemy. The students,I assume, can communicate and organize thru email or social media via the Stampede. Sounds like a job for BeaverPoke.

I agree with this. I admit I don't know much at all about the current stampede but Im not impressed much with it. Time to bring back the "6th man club"? When I was in school during the Bailey years. The 6th man club had things going good. The people in charge of it had their shit together. We would get scouting reports before the game that pointed out which guys were struggling and could be rattled or if there was anything interesting about an opposing player that could be exploited by the student section. I am really glad the students are starting to come back but now the next step is to get loud and crazy and nasty.

Another point, I might be alone in this but I think the video board can be used well for basketball to get the fans fired up. I think it works better than football. This year they show a montage of all the videos right before the second half but they used to use different ones quick throughout the game that could get the student section going. My favorite was the braveheart one with the scottish army chanting before a battle. That always got us going. AAAAAAA_OOOHHHHH. AAAAAA-OOOHHHH. AAAAAAA-OOOOHHH.

Before conference play starts, they need to do a front page feature in the Branding Iron that describes a few of the old traditions (reading the paper during player introductions, cheering until Wyoming scores, etc.). Most of the students read the Branding Iron.

Also, include a "scouting report" for the opposing team in every game-day edition of the BI. The Sixth-Man Club only reached the nerds that paid $15/season for an ugly T-shirt that says they're a bigger fan than everyone else on campus. The BI reaches everyone.

There has to be a passionate UW athletics fan working for the BI. Back in the mid-90's students were organized to torment the opposing team because of the BI. It's by far and away the best medium for organized opponent torture.

either take Branding Iron's into the game read them during the opponent startng lineups, or turn around look at the ceiling during their intro....air ball chant on a player until he makes a 3, who did it, he did it...you got you got ugly women...overrated ( i think we need to use underrated for us), start the bus...and yes stay in unison....it's not hard as I find myself starting alot of things still, and i've been gone almost 20 years....I refuse to grow up tho.....the boink, boink boink at the bounce of the ball at the free throw line, then going nutz when they shoot...when a player fouls out, in unison, his steps...left, right, left, right, when he sits down C'ya....I tell ya I could help teach a class on cheers and chants, if these students don't like it, watch a Duke game sometime and take notes....Also if I do try to start something or do something don't turn around and look at me like I've got the plague....it's an Arena, NOT a Library!!!!
Creativity is nice but let's get after it and get these Pokes in the Top 25.....GO POKES

oh yeah students, do a little research on the opponent and know who's what and chant that players name...IE..Franklin for SDSU...etc....get in their skull, and for the most part it's ok to be loud!!!!! Life as a student isn't always waiting for the Beer song to be played!!

Good idea but nobody really reads the BI. I personally have read it once in two years, and my two roommates haven't at all. The biggest problem I see is getting everyone in sync and getting a group or one guy to lead the student section, and they need to be in the front row at every game and the rest of us need to listen to them.

I love this post!!! oh to get the Dome of Doom back would be a wonderful thing!!! and it's not hard!!! think we're playing well now, just wait!!!!!

Alright game fuckin on! My last year at UW and we have a really good team, my schedule for next semester is very "basketball permitting" time to make the AA the Dome of Doom

if any other students on here want to come join me at the front of the student section for MWC games (I will be out of town starting friday until january).
I will steal shit tons of branding irons from around campus on game day, make sure they get passed out before the game. We will pull the ignoring the other team. Obviously as I am on here everyday it will be easy for me to find a little scouting report for the other team.
I wanna do the quiet til we score thing but that might be a little hard.

Thanx a million for listening!!!GO POKES

Should we get a little wyonation.com banner to help us organize so we can spread out throughout the section? During the CU game I was way at the back and was the one starting a lot of cheers and I swear these freshman up front don't know how to fuckin cheer.

I just want a solid front to back cheer.

I am in to help with whatever, I go to every game and am usually in the first few rows, the problem is we need you guys up front instead of in the back to help start cheers so that it goes from front to back as it will work better than going back to front. If we start getting a group up front that knows what they are doing and are in the front of the section we can start getting people to be more uniform and that will be a major help.

Note...I am normally in the first few rows, we just spent too much time at the bar before the game and ended up with the back row bull shit.

if you're ok with a former student I'll try to make it down next time...love to help

I'm ok with it. I'm sure there are some other people who might say something but they can fuck off.
I've sat with some non-students in the student section before and I had a good time with them. We will get this show fuckin rockin!

Boise St. will be my next game to attend

Certain chants are classics. They're like AC/DC. You can never play them enough.

As a current student, every student lost all respect for you.

Students do listen to a lot of shitty music today, old chants are never too old is what he was referring to with the AC/DC comment. Not playing AC/DC the best student following left when Shyatt left and outside of that the Cotton-Eyed Joe following is the only other thing that kind of stuck.

But seriously...

Utah States "I Believe"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44YUnOoye58" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Same chant SDSU uses for that alone I wouldn't want to use it but we do need something like that.

Taylor University "silent until the 10th point"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNo9x7KQ4ZI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That is pretty cool but I think we would need a larger student section for that to make an impact.
