No passing game in the second half is what killed us. We had plenty of opportunities, but our receivers could catch the ball. McNeill dropped 4 passes that I know of. May and Wick 2 each and then Thompson was throwing to the ground the rest of the time. Our plan was fine, but we went one dimensional when we couldn't catch. It made it easier for AF to stop our run.
AF made no halftime adjustments, they came out and continued doing what they always do. Option. This is not on the coaches. They put us in a position to win this game. Our players failed on this one.
I disagree completely he abandoned the run in the 3rd and 4th quarter and that is what got us to where we were in the game.
We had to. That's the whole point with exception of our initial drive to start the third quarter AF was stopping our run. So, we tried to throw them off with quick screens and slants...THAT WERE CONTINUALLY DROPPED! So, when we'd run again, we 'd gain maybe 2 or three yards if we were lucky. AF just started staying up on the line, cause they knew our passing game was gone. Completing only ONE PASS in the second half is what killed us. We were still playing to win, but because our offense went one dimensional, we we got stopped all second half. If you really think we abandoned the run, I remember watching two drives where all we did was run and we stalled out. Because we were getting 2 yards per carry. Wyo tries to go back to the pass and No body can catch the ball. Little 3 to 5 yard routes and even McNeill (our best WR) was dropping the easy ones. Tell me how that is getting conservative? If we abandoned what worked in the first half I'd say okay and agree with you. But when it is down right getting stopped and we have no other option. Is that playing not to lose? No. You're doing what you can with what you got.
