DC's plan in the second half was fine, but he can't make May, Wick and McNeill catch the ball. That was our falling point last night. No passing game in the second half is what killed us. We had plenty of opportunities, but our receivers could catch the ball. McNeill dropped 4 passes that I know of. May and Wick 2 each and then Thompson was throwing to the ground the rest of the time. Our plan was fine, but we went one dimensional when we couldn't catch. It made it easier for AF to stop our run.
AF made no halftime adjustments, they came out and continued doing what they always do. Option. This is not on the coaches. They put us in a position to win this game. Our players failed on this one.

I disagree completely he abandoned the run in the 3rd and 4th quarter and that is what got us to where we were in the game.

We had to. That's the whole point with exception of our initial drive to start the third quarter AF was stopping our run. So, we tried to throw them off with quick screens and slants...THAT WERE CONTINUALLY DROPPED! So, when we'd run again, we 'd gain maybe 2 or three yards if we were lucky. AF just started staying up on the line, cause they knew our passing game was gone. Completing only ONE PASS in the second half is what killed us. We were still playing to win, but because our offense went one dimensional, we we got stopped all second half. If you really think we abandoned the run, I remember watching two drives where all we did was run and we stalled out. Because we were getting 2 yards per carry. Wyo tries to go back to the pass and No body can catch the ball. Little 3 to 5 yard routes and even McNeill (our best WR) was dropping the easy ones. Tell me how that is getting conservative? If we abandoned what worked in the first half I'd say okay and agree with you. But when it is down right getting stopped and we have no other option. Is that playing not to lose? No. You're doing what you can with what you got.

I somewhat admire how you will defend DC to the ends of the earth, but I'm beginning to think you are related to him or something.

I'm sorry to say many fans agree with LawPoke. This is a travesty. Wyoming needs to fire the AD and the coach before it loses more support. Before people in Wyoming stop giving a damn. Once the support in the Legislature wanes, we might as forget it. The program is a grim joke that pays its coach a million a year...

Year 1 - Everyone all over DC's nuts
Year 2 - Everyone wants him fired
Year 3 - Everyone back all over DC's nuts
Year 4 - Everyone wants him fired again

Here's to a decent year next year!

Actually, our running backs were doing just dandy the second half. Even without the opening drive, they were one yard short of a 5 YPC average in the 2nd half. They averaged over 7 YPC for the entire 2nd half. Not too shabby. Where the run game stalled is having a QB, starting his 1st game ever, either running or scrambling to create the passing game, that you admit, was not working. We had the lead, it should have been us grinding out the yards and the clock. We blew it, get used to it. This is the new style Cowboy football. Right now the only entertainment DC is providing is his smack talk towards the other MWC coaches (1st Nevada, now AF). Sure, it's embarrassing to the program, but at least it's some electricity. I wonder where Brett got the idea that it's okay to yell at people on the field...

Now DC's record is worse than Glenn's at this point in their careers at Wyo. And, as I touched on last week, DC inherited a program with a pulse. Glenn took over a team averaging less than 2 wins per year under the previous coach.

Go Pokes!
Go Christensen! Seriously, Christensen go, please.

DC has been a bad coach all year. Yesterday he didn't lose this game. He didn't drop those screen passes (atleast 5 in the second half) We had a 13 point lead in the second half and lost, not because of our HC though. He didn't take a knee or punt on 3rd, what did he do wrong? I am not necessarily a DC fan I am just saying I didn't see him lose this one for us. I also can't believe the bad luck we have had.
Toledo- Brett gets hit cheap shot after cheap shot until he finally goes out on a stretcher. lose by 3
Cal Poly- See above. go down 14-0 early just didn't have offense. lose by 2
Idaho- won by 3
Nevada- We were the victim of a trigger happy ref, who picked up a flag on an obvious penalty blew a lead. lost by 7
AF- we are playing very well and passing and running all over AF and then the rain comes and we shut down, maybe it was half time adjustments. lost by 1

we are 1-5 and our point differential is -10 not counting Texas. We have finished 4 fourth quaters without the best quarterback in the conference.

It's sad how many people in this forum are just dandy with being 1-5. No wonder this program is a laughing stock. We can't win a game but we can make excuses with the best of them.

I am not making excuses. and I am not "dandy" with being 1-5 I was simply pointing at facts. Fact: we have finished 4 games with out the best QB in the conference. I am saying we arent a terrible football team. Maybe terribly coached, but we have capable players

I think the beef was that Deitz's helmet came off and he was supposed to leave the game for a play.. which meant AFA was going to have to bring in a cold QB on the fly.. so if Deitz "goes down" that gives the backup a chance to loosen up and come in.. so I think DCs beef was Deitz going down was faked to give Pierson time to warm up and come in the game. At least, that's how I read it.

THAT is what he was screaming about?

Not the missed tackles in the 2nd half, the offense not moving the ball or the game killing penalty at the end?

I happen to like DC, but...

I agree, this seems like a good thing to just ignore and not bring up. Not sure why he decided to call that out after the game - we could have done some self reflection instead of calling out the AF academy. Who knows, maybe Deitz was really hurt. Emotions were obviously high with a 1 point loss though.

The defeatist attitude refected by the majority of the posts in this thread stinks.

Unlike some coaching staffs of the past that were truly defeated and fell into excuse making, this one exhibits no such behavior. You can argue DC's post game behavior lacked class and maybe was the result of some frustration boiling over, but at least it shows the fire in his belly.

The 2012 version of the pokes is a very young squad, of which no one can argue has yet played a game where they were not competitive. If gut wrenching losses can produce character, you're going to be following a team with a ton of it just around the corner.

I may be bummed and hurt, maybe even angry...becoming apathetic...not in the slightest. (if you defeatists truly were, you wouldn't be here posting)

DC makes a good point, his helmet came off so he acted like he was hurt, and did a poor job at it. It gave AF 4 mins to come up with a play, get their backup situated, and warmed up. When they called it no TD initially, Dietz was sprinting back on the field for 4th. Another question

why in the world did War Memorial show the TD replay

I agree. I don't think we should ever show a replay in the stadium.

A coach will defend a coach when he realizes the coach struggling cannot control what is going on. I'm sorry that I perceive whats going on through a coaches eyes, not a fans. Get over yourself and use common sense. How is NOT catching passes in the freezing rain DC's fault?
I think you just want to be mad. Which makes you a distant relative.

Don't Go Mr. Lawpoke. Don't Go.

You have reminded me of a song to add to my performing playlist though.
"You will pay tomorrow. Oh, save me. Save me from tomorrow. I don't want to sail with this ship of fools."

Are you serious? A pulse! DC was worse off than Glenn's first year with Koennings team. Vic was turning the team from a team that was getting blown out every saturday to a team that was at least scoring and attempting to stay in games. And Vic recruited his last year.
DC comes and takes over a program where the offense has tanked all year long (yes worse offense than Vic 's last year) and the D was not much better. Yeah Glenn had two more wins that year than Vic. But , overall Vic's last year was far better than what we saw under Glenn. On top of that, Glenn never recruited all year long his last year. Which is what made our roster so stinking small in DC's first two years.
Vic never had to play 22 freshman in one year. Glenn never had to play 22 freshman in one year. Glenn made DC have to play 22 freshman in one year. And he succeeded.
Right now, we've struggled with injuries and other issues. But this team shows up. They are right at the cusp of being one of the greater teams we've had in years. I guarantee NONE of this would be said if we were 5-1 right now (a lost opportunity which is only 13 points away from being a reality.)
I would love to be 5-1 right now, even if we had that record by a combined 13 points. But, it's a matter of a few plays. Stop trying to make sense using your brown and gold glasses and look at the world with your real eyes.

Like, taking a knee on third down? Defend that little gem, I dare you.

OK, you've won me over. DC is the greatest coach on the planet...and BCS championship, here we come. Give DC a $10 million a year extension!

Okay, you can stop being an ASS! I never stated that. All I'm saying is we're having growing pangs and I think we're on the right track.
We will never have coaches like Paterno or Bowden or even Beamer again after he retires. Because we are a society of instant results. Beamer had six or seven years of mediocre to bad years at VT before he began winning. And look at what VT would've missed out on if they got rid of him? Who knows what will happen if we gave a coach time to actually build something?

And answering a previous post. We're not happy about being 1-5. But when we see the potential point blank in our face of how close we are? That makes us excited.

Here's the thing: a winning coach doesn't change the gameplan from what is working to something that is not. And vice versa. Period.
