Hunter Thompson

I'm of the opinion that when a kid commits to another school, wish him luck and move on - find a kid who wants to be a Cowboy. I hope he does well, but if he isn't a Cowboy, I file his name in the old "who gives a fuck" folder. Good luck with Creighton HT, a school I consider a poor man's Notre Dame (Creighton tuition and fees - $36,422, Notre Dame tuition and fees - $47,929).

I've never met a Wyo. alum. who didn't love their time at the school. That said, who stays in Laramie after they graduate? Omaha has nearly 3/4 of a million people and a lot fortune 500 companies located there. A lot of factors go into choosing a school. The basketball may have been a small factor in the equation. But to wish bad fortune on a kid because he doesn't choose your school is just pathetic.
Have you ever been to Omaha let alone Creighton? The suburbs are nice but there are a lot of areas in the city that are rough and not a place I would want to live. Creighton is in one of the rough areas that I personally would never want to live in. Omaha is going to be quite the large change from Pine Bluffs.
I just graduated from Creighton with my Masters. The school is in a good area with plenty of things to do in the immediate area. The rougher parts of town aren't too far away, but the area where the school is, is nice.

I was told several months ago by someone close to the situation that the chances that Thompson goes to UW were slim to none, so this is definitely not surprising at all. Wish him luck at Creighton and hope the pokes can find someone even better.

I thought it was interesting that he referenced the fans as being the selling point at Creighton. I remember when that was a selling point to go to Wyoming when Bailey was signing. We need more people to go to games and be excited about the pokes. I agree with whoever said, Wyoming has a problem and that's people don't talk about how we can get better they just say "well Wyoming sucks and always will because....." I want Wyo kids to stay here but when we have an entire fan base that is cynical about everything Wyoming athletics its going to be hard for the coaches to do anything recruiting wise. I am included in the cynical party sometimes but I need to change.

I did like how it was hard for Hunter to tell Coach Shyatt that he chose Creighton. That means that Coach tried everything he could which is different from coaches in the past.

Who?

Once he decides to go somewhere else I forget about them. Not wishing him ill. Good luck to ya but I'm moving on and you're forgotten.

Some of you guys are ridiculous.
Hunter blew it? What's so great about Creighton?

When I think of Creighton, I think of "basketball school".
Good for Hunter.

With that said, let's get Parker Stewart! ASAP!

You continuing your long history of congratulating kids when they don't pick Wyoming is old.

I think they meant from an impact perspective. If he goes there, most likely the Creighton fans would like him but here he would have been a superstar the day he stepped on campus especially if he turned the program around. He might be a superstar anyways but the impact would have been bigger here i believe. Not that being a good player at Creighton is bad. I just think if he had come in and turned the program around it would have been even bigger than when Bailey did that in his years. The state would have really rallied around a small town kid winning at the D1 level. It would have been huge for this state.

Creighton is a good basketball school and I actually like their coach and team most years but I still think he could have done something special here at Wyoming and had a bigger impact.

Lets get Parker Stewart is right!!! That would lighten the mood considerably!

Because I like seeing kids from home state go on to do big things?
And because I don't get all pissed off and worked up about what a 17 or 18 yearold decides to do?

I know that Creighton has a basketball rep and it's because they're always going back to the dance....to do absolutely nothing. Last sweet 16 was 1974. And three total.

Not a lot of kids want "messiah to turn around the fate of the program" on their shoulders as a freshman.

It's not like Wyoming has some storied history of going on deep runs in the tournament, either. But it would be nice to see one of these kids step up to the challenge of turning this program around. I've said it before and I say it again. If the team starts winning consistently at home again, the fans will come. Losing to Fort Lewis at home (I don't care if it was an exhibition game) signed a death warrant for home attendance for this year.

He and his family should move to Omaha since it's so great there.
And you should gobble a knob. Stop attacking the kid because he decided not to go to the school that you claim to like but shit on with every post.

It's hard to get better when top flight talent, especially top in state talent, won't come play here
Have you heard of Wichita State, VCU, and Dayton, among others? Just because the top-rated local kids go elsewhere doesn't mean you won't be successful.
