Huge Hire!

Reports are Wyo upped the ante for the coaching salary to $160,000 for the next head coach, Granted I don't know where that falls in line but it's more then HS was getting.

$160,000 is Schroyer's base salary - his total compensation is around $300,000 to $400,000 a year. The new coach will make more than that.

Throw the money at Gillespie and he will come. Minimum of 2 years before we make the big dance with him at the helm. Of course, he will likely be gone after that, but I don't really give a s##t.

Would he really come here? Would we have to put one of those breathalizers on his car that won't let it start if he's over the limit? I mean, he's imo, far and away, the best hire we could make. But I just can't see him coming here.

I believe he would if we move fast enough. There is a facebook group called "Bring Gillespie to Wyoming" and recently one of the members sent an email to Gillespie expressing the fans interest in him as a coach. Apparently, this was his response:

"Thank you for contacting me! I appreciate that! Wyoming deserves the best and can be back on top in NO TIME!!! The pride and the passion just needs a little restoring".

Thanks again,
Billy Clyde Gillispie

Gillespie is going to have to start at a mid-tier basketball program before he ever gets a shot at the big time programs again. I think he knows that. Wyoming would be the perfect fit for him to prove he still has the skills to turn around a program. The only thing I would be worried about is having to compete with Texas Tech for him if they decide to fire their current coach. Burman should be in contact with him by the end of the week and try to get the ball rolling on this.

Maybe I did read that wrong it was late I'll go hunt that article down again.

There's talk on the other board that Jeremy Cox as an assistant at Texas A&M under Gillespie. Bring them both in with Cox as the heir apparent if Gillespie is able to move on to bigger and better things after a couple successful years at Wyoming.
