How to make fans out of non-believers.

So this is kind of a part 2 for my "student in my class" thread.
I am wondering what gets those fans hooked?

I'm pretty sure the kid in my class that didn't know anything about our team doesn't hate wyo, as he wears some wyo shirts and was willing to go to the game.
But after seeing a performance like that, does that convert the "Sure I'll go to the game" fan to a "I can't wait for Saturday" fan?

Do people like that go home and check espn.com and see that we are 1-1 and our loss was a 3 point loss to Nebraska who is now 2-0 and ranked (and beat the HELL out of So.Miss) ?
Do they see the numbers Wick and Smith and all the WRs are putting up and get hooked?

I really don't know what gets fans hooked as I have been rooting for the Broncos, Rockies, and Wyoming since I was little, and started cheering for Oregon State because I will be going there.

I never had anyone who had to convince me I should be a Wyo fan because I go here. It was just basic DNA.

Will this last win get "fickle fans" to become passionate? Will it be a few more wins in a row?

We need to have a 10 win season IMO to convert some of those fans.

One season won't do it, We have had the good season followed by shit season. We have to have 2-3 seasons in a row 8-10 wins.

If we can get a 10 win season this year, it'll be a good start.

Next year will be more difficult, considering we play Oregon (one of the most explosive offenses in college football) and Michigan State (one of the best defenses in College Football). But if we pull off a 10 win season next year following one this year, then it'll definitly get people on board.

Remember, those are BIG ifs. Next up if UNC. Just take it game by game.

I think the game by game method is going to be best for the students.
The alums and fans throughout the state may need some convincing seasons in a row, but to get kids thinking we are good, can be a week by week thing.
Win this week go to 2-1, then 3-1, then 4-1, then 5-1, then 6-1. It will get students stoked.

We have to have some consistency to turn the bandwagon fans. We saw it last year with basketball. Wyoming had a great start. Crowds were building. We made the top 25. Then Luke Martinez goes "Suge Knight" at the Buckhorn, the season sucks from there on out, and attendance drops off.

The good news: Wyoming is poised to do some real work at changing the attendance for football. We had 22,500 yesterday. With our schedule, we could get pretty deep in conference season before we lose again. I think a lot of us are expecting 8 to 10 wins this year before the bowl game. It's very possible we could win the rest of our home games.

In addition, Wyoming only has about 10 seniors in the THREE deep. So we're poised for another big year next year. If we can protect home field this year, contend for a conference title, and then follow it up with another big year next year, that's about 12 home games in a row that we can win. That's the only thing that's going to change the 15 years of crap football performance we've had.

However, some of those seniors are key players.

Patrick Mertens (NT, 1st team), Justin Bernthaler (DT/DE 1st team), Tedder Easton (RB/FB, 1st team FB), Devyn Harris (1st LB), Robert Herron (1st team WR), Marqueston Huff (1st team Safety), Brandon Miller (1st team RB/WR), and Tyler Strong (1st Guard).

Those guys are key contributers, and account for 8 of the 10 seniors on the 3 deep.

Yeah, but every year we lose key players. I worried that Smith is going to get a top 4 round draft offer and go. If he is projected highly in the draft, he's gone with his concussion issues.

The rest of those losses can be absorbed. We only lose one offensive linemen. We should be fine there. Our qb's, wr's, and rb's are loaded. We're good on offense. Losing Mertens and Bernthaler will hurt the d-line, but I feel really good about the big bodies we have down on the d-line farm. Give those guys another year in the weight room with the progression of Olive, Pulatasi, and Yarborough: I think we're pretty salty there. Losing Huff will definitely hurt, but again, we only lose one guy from the secondary. We still have a season to recruit and let the younger guys progress.

On paper, we lose less to graduation then we have in a very long time.

Can't be looking too far ahead. There are quite a few key seniors on this team, and great seasons (9+ wins) for non-AQ schools always leads to BCS schools sniffing around for coaching hires. One step at a time. Enjoy this season every step of the way.....cause nothing is for sure going into 2014. There is a reason its hard for non-AQ schools to sustain consistent success. Don't take 2013 for granted.

+1 million

The next year is where we may see a drop off when we lose all our current Juniors that have seen a lot it PT...including Smith. I hope Thompson or (fingers crossed) Cader can fill his shoes, as they will be the hardest.
