I can't wait to get back there for a visit. I love all of Wyoming.

I’ll be honest, not many from Wyoming would say Cheyenne is one of their favorite places in the state. I like Cheyenne but there are so many other gems.
I love all of Wyoming but there is something about Cheyenne and Laramie that I particularly like. I'm been to a lot of places in Wyoming and I can tell you that I love Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons but I love Laramie because of UW- college town and again there is something unique about Cheyenne.
Here is another local tip - not many from Wyoming actually consider Jackson as part of Wyoming (we can’t afford to live there and the super wealthy aren’t our type of crowd) and few from Wyoming are going to Yellowstone with the crowds and overregulation.

Travel the Big Horns, Med Bows and Wind Rivers. Surrounded by some of the best places in the lower 48 to camp, hike, hunt and fish. No entry fees and no one telling you where to camp. Check out the likes of Buffalo, Lander, Dubois, Pinedale, Sheridan, Ten Sleep, Saratoga, Encampment/Riverside, etc… Go to the local county fairs/rodeos in the summer. That is Wyoming.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Don't get off the interstate. Everything worth seeing you can see from the interstate. Check out the hot spots: Gillette, Rock Springs, Cheyenne, Casper, Rawlins......

I would avoid those other places he mentioned as they're incredibly ugly, clickish, and downright hostile to non-natives.

Seconded. The Big Horns are just a giant trailer park for people from Campbell County. Wind Rivers are a place for people around the country (and even world) to come and poo outside in some sort of weird hippy communal experience. Absarokas, you will be eaten by a griz. Best to stay away from these places.

I used to be more friendly and outgoing with information, but these last two years and the amount of folks on the mountain has made me a bit more downright hostile as Old Bull writes.

The amount of people in the Snowys has been unreal. Think 4th of July x2 every single day. It's unenjoyable. Not exaggerating. They are all from CO. Ridiculous

Doesn't surprise me. It has been ridiculously busy along 16 in the Big Horns. The one thing that really annoys me are the folk who park their camper in a prime disbursed spot for over a month, camp for a night or two, and leave the camper vacant the rest of the time.

Previously YNP was tolerable during the "shoulder" season. Took the kids last year and it was like 4th of July weekend.

Grouse Mountain looked like a KOA all summer last year and into this year. Evidently you could get enough of a cell signal to work remotely. Forest Service closed that particular area to disbursed camping this summer, but that has just resulted in additional ticket revenue for the USFS.

Parking your camper at a good spot is a local trick. You only have to move it every two weeks and it only has to move a short distance as the crow flies. Most of the locals with campers get there's up on the mountain as soon as the snow melts and just move it around when they have to. It increases your chance of getting/keeping a good spot. The last few years, my friends that I go camping with usually team up to try and take three or four spots next to each other to decrease the chances of some Gilletian douche parking his camper right on top of us, stealing our firewood while we're fishing and playing his horrible music all night.

I don't think our mis-information campaign is going to do any good though. In 15-20 years it's going to be all one town from Story to Bighorn. That area is filling in so fast it's crazy. With the state passing all these crypto laws to attract new industry and people actually being very receptive to those laws and excited about moving here, I think we're about to see a mini boom in Wyoming, depending on how the Feds regulate crypto.

It would be nice if we could keep the majority of the growth in areas that won't have as big of an effect on the local population, like Casper and Cheyenne, but I don't know if that's possible. What used to be the best kept secrets are now becoming the hot new spots for people to buy houses in our beloved state.

I haven’t seen an uptick in use at my camping and fishing spots. But then again, it requires some hiking and route finding.
Yeah, this is probably true, but I've got small kiddos and the 'easy to get to' places are positively overrun! :tickedoff:
