Hill as a receiver

This isn't a complaint, but a question. I don't ever remember seeing Brian Hill receive a pass. Do we not have anything in the playbook where he catches the ball out of the backfield?

Good stinkin thinkin. Seems like they just don't have the time to get to that with him. But if they added throwing it to him it could come up huge.

This season is playing out so great that it might even make sense for hill to come back next year to re peat

This is biased thinking on my part, but I heard somewhere that this is expected to be a RB deep draft year, so it might be to his advantage to stay one more. However, if he's projected as a 3-5 round pick. That would be hard to pass up.

Draft grades right now go 1st, 2nd, stay in school for underclassmen. Deep RB class, and RBs aren't getting drafted as high anymore. It'll be tough to come out.

That said.. more tunnel screens and regular screens to Hill, please.

To date, Brian has 1,156 yards rushing, but only three catches for 23 receiving yards. You aren't the only one wondering why they aren't going with a few more screens or swing passes to Hill in open space. His quickness, speed and strength are a huge load for the defenses.

Seeing that Brian has an NFL logo as the backdrop on his Twitter page, I think it'll be tough to convince him to stick around UW if he's a middle round projection.

I'm going out on the limb and saying he has a hands issue and that is why you don't see more passes.

I'm sure they work on it during practice but I'm guessing he isn't consistent enough in practice to rely on him in crunch time.

It's the only explanation for me

If I were to guess, we will see Hill with a reception before the end of the season. They haven't need to use him in that way yet. I would expect at some point it might come out as a surprise.

I posted a stat last night about how our WR stats have changed this season. That could be a factor.

Hill caught 20 passes last year. How many of those were because the QB was under pressure and just had to get rid of the ball to the flat? Probably most of them. With Allen's mobility, that takes those catches away from Hill because he keeps looking downfield instead of at the safety valve.

I agree with this. That, and he's an excellent decoy that the defense always has to respect. I'd like to see a few more of our fullback passes, though.

How is Hill in pass protection? To make it in the NFL he may need to be good at that as well as catching.

I think that's actually one of his strengths. He's frequently picking up blitzers and even throws blocks when Allen runs.

He's been damn good in protection. Hill's blocking has been a big reason that we've given up so few sacks.

Yep. Plus, it gives him another chance to hit people. And being 6'1 220lbs, he can go toe to toe with a good number of linebackers, and even DEs if need be.
