Heads Up, Cowboys. It was just one game

So it was a bad game. what did we expect? Utags have much left to play for. We took a step back on defense, but let's see how we respond before burying the team and coaches. Short week with an inexperienced, banged-up team? Not a recipe for success. These kids are young, but there is some talent there. We knew after the first game that there were going to be games like this. The offense looks OK at this point without two of our better players, no less. Now's the time to show support for the kids and program.

Go Cowboys!

Well said! The kids played hard until the end. Also, Smith looked worlds better throwing the ball this game then the last time.

A positive was the offensive line. I thought Smith was very effective running, he's Teboesque.

This is what bothers me: We have 4th and 1 on their 30 and we run right up the middle even though they had all 11 players in the box. I know Smith isn't a passing qb, but that situation just screamed for Smith to rollout with a run/pass option. Just once, I would like to be surprised by the play calling. Even if it doesn't work, at least make the defense think that something else might be coming. Run a reverse or a hook and lateral just to mix it up. Hell, Woody Hayes would call our offense predictable.

It is just not a bad game. It is a bad season. If this team had a rematch with emu, N. Dakota, or New Mexico I think they still lose.

Agreed. We took a few steps back, but overall I saw improvement from the guys in the secondary, and the offense didn't look terrible. We just got eaten alive by the read option and effective use of their tight ends. I hoped it'd be a closer game, but that's all you can hope for in a year like this.

Big game next weekend and maybe we'll steal one from the lambs.

The defense looks awful and looked awful last night. Because of that, WYO was dead in the water. We also punted 5 times, allowing USU to score at will. That cost us because to have a shot we had to match them score for score.

I agree about Hill. He is exciting to watch. Every play has the potential to be explosive. What a talent he is.

Congrats to USU on the win. The Aggies really took it to us.

Been MIA a few weeks on here - sorry to drop off. One thing I will say: Hill is a really solid back. He'll get a training camp shot in the NFL. Not an upper-tier talent who will be drafted at this point, but he's the kind of back that can mould into someone who sneaks onto a 53-man roster for a couple seasons. He reminds me a lot of Gartrell Johnson, who gave us fits when he was at CSU.

I think if Kapri Bibbs can land an active roster spot, Hill will be able to. Remember, he still has at least one more season after this. He reminds me of a poor man's Melvin Gordon

Most important week of the season is coming up. Winning or losing the Boot can make or break the mood of the season. Got to get that thing back.

Bibbs is still on the practice squad, although he may have been called up to the 53-man once or twice. Poor-man's Melvin Gordon doesn't bode well for Hill's NFL stock; Gordon is on a quick path to Montee Ball land, if you've followed the Chargers this year. Huge disappointment for them so far.

With that said, I think Hill's strength and acceleration project well to at least get a couple of years in the league (heck, if Alvester kicked around practice squads, there's no question Hill can do that). I don't see him ever being a feature back, but it's way too early for any of this talk.

The good news? Wyoming gets (hopefully) two more years of injury-free production from him.

Is Bibbs still practice squad? Someone in my fantasy league picked him up last week. I don't follow the Broncos much though. And poor mans Melvin Gordon does sound pretty good for his college prospect. Which I'm more concerned about for the time being since he's not about to go pro.

Hill is an NFL back and a good one if he stays healthy. I know our D-line as we know it was not able to suit up last night, we were out of position and out of Nose Tackles, but Hill was eating up a very good linebacking corp too. We shut Bibbs down stone cold and he never was the same after playing in Logan.

He's a hell of a back and then some.

I disagree with the emu and nd games. I think the guys have enough experience now to win.

We have seen steady improvement throughout the year. The guys took a step back against USU. I think we could win games against ND, EMU, App St, and UNM if we could play them today....not saying we would win, but I would like our chances in all those games. We played decent against Wazzu too and they are looking like a solid team.

Another step back tells me we are going the wrong way......LOL
What did you expect with a third string QB, no Gentry, undersized OL, DL and LBs? Do you have a fix for in experience and being undersized on a week to week basis? Yeah, that's what I thought. It is what it is at this point, but that doesn't mean it won't be better next year because it will.

We are undersized for a reason.......when you recruit small you play small! Hopefully he can get some size in that can actually play. Yes actually I do have an answer.he needs to line his cupboards with a few JC players that can have an immediate impact while his undersized and in experienced recruits are gaining that elusive size and veteran look in their eyes. But that isn't his philosophy. Apparently destroying the program and trying to re-build it in 5 years is. ;)
