GTS - WYOMING vs. North Dakota

As a Minnesota Vikings fan and being 75% Norwegian (+25% Swede), I guess I am too dumb to realize I am actually being victimized by the vicious use of that nickname. Before you argue that it is not comparable, you should know that one of the two Sioux nations voted in support of the nickname, but the tribal commission of the other nation voted against supporting the logo. It required support from both tribes. So it not as black and white as you seem to be saying, when half of the Sioux population are actually in support and view the logo favorably.

You probably don't identify as viking. A nickname is different than a mascot. Some tribes have voted to let their national race be used as a mascot for money because of being poor. Some tribes will sell merchandise at games as part of the deal to let their national race to be used as a mascot. I am not a poor. I would never do that.
A lot of indigenous persons don't know what is right about themselves because their cultures were stripped from them and replaced by a white American culture.
I'm not like that. I speak over 10 languages fluently. Four of them are indigenous to America. The languages themselves will teach you the meanings of things. The words tell you. That's one reason why it is hard for a lot of persons to understand this. They have lost their knowledge when they lost their languages, their cultures. There is a different brain concept to Indigenous persons who grew up Indigenous or mostly that way. Today it's dying out fast the way things are today.
It's really very simple. When an Indigenous person tells you what hurts his culture then listen to him. You don't have to understand it.

Thanks for the insightful dissection and the information about how many languages you speak.

You won't hold it against me I'm sure if my answer to your answer is simply a loud: NO.

I refuse to play by your rules. Thank you however for your attempts at trying to convince me of the hideous person I am.

I won't call you any names - I'll instead leave that to you.

'No', in any language, is pretty universal?

P.S. Wanna talk about the ridiculousness of global warming next?

The OVERWHELMING majority of all Native Americans left in the United States has expressed approval of imagery and nicknames such as; INDIANS, BRAVES, WARRIORS, CHIEFS, etc. However, let us not allow facts or myriad polls done over this issue over the years cloud the raging politically correct in this country who are hellbent on doing all they can do in order to politicize and or mislead clear thinking people with better things to do than to talk about the name of a damn football team: REDSKINS.

However, I must acknowledge, that even if the polls were not on the side of someone such as myself I would not relent or concede my ground.

Personally? I'm not intimated nor am I concerned in the least about the numberless amounts of labels those interested in marginalizing my own specific opinion concerning this subject may wish to throw my way.

In short, I consider anyone who makes such an irrelevant and grandstanding play about this outrageous issue a person who is either completely misguided -- or worse yet -- possibly in need of major psychiatric help.

Crazy got off the train 2 stops ago.

Not true about the polls. That's part of the trick. This has nothing to do about your drama of being intimated or not.
Not irrelevant. I am one of those with the elite knowledge and understanding of this. I'm not misguided! I even wrote a book about it that I've been holding unpublished. It's used for learning by certain persons. You're the type of guy who would say the "R_dsk_ns" word to our indigenous children. You probably would not say racial slurs to black children. With their numbers and power that would be a mistake.
Every year I have a complete double medical and psychiatric evaluation to work with certain types of people and everything was great. I'm not in need of major psychiatric help.

It's not for you.

Have a pleasant evening, Alyssa, the night is long and I must get some sleep to re-charge my batteries for our next engagement. If I'm to go head-to-head with a human as well versed as you I must do so with all of my faculties in their rightful place.

I've enjoyed the jousting with you tonight - you are a worthy opponent.

Forgive me for my brazen rebuttals...I am merely a White, Christian, Heterosexual. With that acknowledgement I'm positive you can deduce where I've gone all wrong.

I can see Redskins not being an appropriate name for a team, but it's true, Vikings is no different than Fighting Sioux except for one group continues to see themselves as victims.

The most irritating thing to me about being a North Dakota Fighting Sioux fan is after you see the nickname removed by the NCAA, you then get to watch the Florida State Seminoles fans do tomahawk chops, chant some weird war cry, and have a white guy with war paint on plunge a spear into their football field riding a horse while wearing some supposedly Native American clothing.

We never did any of that stuff.

More Native American doctors and lawyers come from UND's medical and law school than any other university in the United States. The Native American Studies program at the University of North Dakota are very strong.

The anger directed at the NCAA by UND fans is deep now. I hate that organization. But, I am in favor of choosing a new nickname and putting this all to rest. Many prefer just to remain North Dakota to both remain the de facto Fighting Sioux and to give a message to the NCAA...basically an Ef you to them.

i hope you're better at the other nine than you are at English. Besides, this is a thread about a football game not a pat yourself on the back for being over sensitive on the behalf of a minority. News flash, they can speak for themselves.

Agree ^ Thanks for that post Geaux_Sioux. How derailed of a thread did this become? Pathetic! I suggest some poster(s) take their shit and head to the "Hole In The Wall" forum to discuss the butthurtedness, essentially GTFO of the football forum with this.

My prediction is simple- Wyoming will win. Since i have to make a guess 28-17 Pokes.

This is an interesting matchup in that both coaches are in their second year. I do believe we are much improved over last year, but the same can be said for the Pokes. At this point I am just looking forward to taking the game in at the War and having a good time. My hope is UND plays tough and keeps it a game.

X factor in my mind is the altitude. Grand Forks is in a valley below 1,000 feet above sea level. I don't think we have the depth to compete the entire game. First half UND will likely keep it tight. Second half they will run out of gas. Hope I am wrong though lol.

You are coming down then? Cool. I think you will like the stadium. For the most part, you will get a warm welcome. Of course you will have your usual students who are there because they have nothing else to do...they are the ones that usually talk crap I have found. the same kids who don't even know our players.

Anyhoo, be sure to drink a lot of liquid before the game so you can have the honor of using the trough-urinals.

Lastly, bring a tshirt, hoodie, hat and a rain jacket. Park as close to the stadium as possible because you may be trekking back to your car any given time during the game. :D Three straight years it has gone from 70s and blue sky...to lightning and rain within minutes. Prob similar to Grand Forks.

Also, bring a mascot, ok?

Though I don't think the score will reflect, I hope a talent discrepancy is obvious (i.e. we just have a few mistakes and missed opportunities which keeps the game closer).

If we don't observe a talent difference, it is going to be looooong season. No offense to UND folks. I would expect the same watching you guys against a team in the next division down.

Actually im driving "up" as I live in Breckenridge Co. I assume the weather patterns are about the same: If you dont like the weather wait five minutes. I plan on getting there early to drink some "kool aide." Any specific lots where I can tailgate?

No offense taken. 85 schollies vs. 63. You are supposed to have more talent and I assume you do. I am not expecting to win. However, I am expecting to have a good time, and pick up so 30 rounds mags since I cant get them in Colorado!

we'll come out strong i hope/think, and pull away, 31-12, blocked extra kick and stuffed them on a 2 point conversion, Cmon Pokes!!!!!

Similar, except for the fact that UND has a dome.
