Greatest Coach or Administrator to ever wear the B&G?

On the heels of Mr. Titleists greatest player question. Who do you think was the greatest coach or administrator to ever wear the Brown & Gold?

For me...hands down...Glen "Red" Jacoby. Without him & his efforts in the late 40's, the 50's, the 60's, and the early 70's, UW would be the equivolent of North Dakota State. If even that good.

Call me a history buff in this instance. Red was was an innovator, a pioneer, and a perfectionist. And he demanded winning...in all sports...and in all non-sport areas.

Paul Roach, IMHO, is the greatest coach (2nd place goes to Lloyd Eaton).

Why?

2 outright WAC Championships in a row
Beat the maggots in Provo!
3 bowl appearances in FOUR years!

There's more but at the moment can't remember them.

I hate to say it since he chose to leave us.......Jim Brandenburg. He gave us 9 great years and several ncaa appearances and 1 NIt final.

Honestly, he didn't win much, but Joe Glenn. He brought in a hell of a lot of money to the U, was a great ambassador to the U, and built us a fine IPF.. however, w/l talks.

I forgive you for being wasted and posting this drivel.

Red Jacoby during his tenure (that spanded 4 decades) built &/or started building the field house, the War, Cowboy Field, the tennis courts, the golf course, the Laramie baseball complex, the North 40 fields, the current track & soccer stadium, and the list goes on, and on, and on. In today's $$ probably the equivolent of more than 300 or 400 million.

You crack me up Mr. T. That is hilarious.

Unfortunately for me, I'm only 27, and know next to nothing about Red Jacoby except that golf course by my old apartment is named after him. :) I go by purely frame of reference, so excuse my ignorance. :thumb:

...and I was drinking some winter dopplebock last night.

Ah, the good 'ol dopplebock. I understand now. All kidding aside, I think the knowledge comes from where you live, and if your family was ever UW alumni, athletes, and/or fans. I was born into hardcore UW family, in Wyoming, and heard (and still hear) about the history of UW (all facets) all the time! Not everyone is privy to what I hear continually...I get it.

The bavarian brewery up here makes an outstanding dopplebock.. I think it's 8.4% of delicious beer. My favorite winter beer. Regarding UW history, I was the trailblazer for literally my entire family (immediate, cousins, uncles, aunts, etc) in going to UW.. I have a cousin going there now, so most UW history and tradition, started with me.. the rest of my family went to the 2 year schools around Wyoming (NWC, CC, EWC).

Good Job, nicely done! Are you living in Billings? How is the UW support there...I have always heard there is a decent following, no?

If UW beats the zoobies, then SDSU, you should get your ass down to L-town for the TCU game. Wyohop on me (if they have it)...

I'm in Missoula, over kind of next to Idaho, 4.5 hours West of Billings. I'm actually 2 hours closer to Spokane, WA than I am Billings. Billings has a HUGE following, as billingspoke and gopokes1399 can attest. Here in Missoula.. I'm kind of a lone wolf, though, last weekend at the Griz game I had my Cowboys sweatshirt on and got a couple "Go Pokes!" as I was walking about the tailgate area.

Billings has a pretty good following of Wyoming but they dont get enough press here i dont think but if u ever see a person wearing Wyo Apparel and you yell Go Pokes it is almost a guarantee that the person wearing the apparel will yell back... the only downer to wyoming and billings is that bresnan communications doesnt have The Mtn. and so no one can really see the games
