GAMEDAY!

Just got home from the game. The entire team (especially Nance) had the first game in the "New AA" jitters for about 2/3 of the first half. First I will say I was about 15 feet from Nance when he was undercut/pulled down under the basket and I clearly saw his face as he was going down and you could tell it was a face of worried terror. After he found out he could take a hit like that and was ok, he was good to go.
This team is going to be a good one. I'm impressed with all the depth on this team and when they all got some PT, you could see their confidence go up. Many people gave up on Sellers a long time ago, but I gotta say he is improved significantly - his footwork is much better than it used to be. He's not starter material, but he is going to get some PT at certain spots in some games. Herndon is going to be a big asset to this team this year.
On another subject, the AA crew has some bugs to work out on the video boards, scoreboards, and sound system. The stat part of the video board should flash the player's number when he commits a foul for about 5 seconds or so. I think they should put the names (Cowboys/Visitors) above the scores. The sound system has an echo and too much bass - which makes it hard to understand.

There are some bugs to work out, that is for sure. The AA looks great, absolutely amazing. One thing that I don't care for is the scoreboards. Having them on the big screens is ok...and actually a necessity. I am assuming they will always show the score unlike in the past? That said, the ribbon board above the visitor entrance is obstructed from my seat and the small scoreboard across from the Poke bench is too small and also obstructed. Maybe the next phase will add more scoreboards?

They also may want to think about removing Diontae Jones from the pre-game video board player intros, if possible. ;)

If they could slightly increase the size of the font for players stats on the video boards, I'd be really happy.

They need to not allow people to sit in the walkway separating the lower bowl from the upper bowl. These areas are meant for the handicapped but others were just pulling up chairs and sitting in that area. Those seats blocked the view of spectators in the first row of the upper bowl.

On another note, I bet the people behind the hoop on the Wyoming board were surprised by the flames during intros. They gave off some heat. Hopefully student attendance improves too.

I guess I just don't understand the reasons the students don't come to the games. This is a very entertaining team at one of the nicest basketball arenas anywhere and no telling how far this team can go this season.

The sound system sounded muffled too...or is that just my hearing going down the tubes...apparently like my eyesight.

Just saw highlights of the win. Looks like the makings of a solid team. Got some impressive athletes too! I'll definitely be keeping tabs on Wyo hoops this winter.

It looked like there was a decent number of students to me...

Our offense was awesome! Finding the high % shot. We shot almost 62% from the field!!! Phenomenal! If we keep that up and have assists to shots (21 of 26) we will be tough for anyone to stop. My biggest compliment... Free throws!!!!!!! 18-22! Yes! That's what a team needs.
I think we beat a tough team too. I thin UNC will be in the post season mix this year. They have some very good players.
Our biggest concern, that's not really a concern is our help D. We were a bit slow and out of place to make the switches. Something, this team is good at, just need to speed it up to game speed. Something I completely trust Shyatt and his players will work on. UNCs lead in the first half and their comeback in the second half was evidence of this. But this team will pick it up as games go on.
I'm truly impressed with this team. Nance gained major confidence in this game, you could see it as the game wore on. Adams I think started this year where he left off last year. And Grabau again, ball balding and free throw phenom.
I too was also impressed with Cooke and think he will continue to improve as the season goes on. I was also impressed with Sellers. That guy has progressed big time. He will be a benificial back up to Cooke and Nance this year. I think McMannamen passed up on some looks that he should've tried. But he will progress nicely. And Hankerson was a beast yesterday.
Go Pokes!

Yea, I should have said both students and non-student fans also.

UNC is going to beat their share of teams this year. Lot of rust for the Pokes, but man it was good to see them out there competing again. First game of the year is always one of the worst. The kids will continue to improve. All 5 starters in double digits in scoring...a good sign there for the offense. I'll take this one with a big smile and look forward to the next. Go Pokes.
I agree that UNC will beat their share of teams. That's a pretty good little squad. Not much you could do about some of the shots they were hitting (deep threes and floaters). The Bears have two or three guys who can really play.

Not too worried about the early jitters from the Pokes. As soon as Larry hit that jump hook, he settled down and really started playing well. Overall, the starting five played well. Just wished DC would keep those blocked shots in play, when possible.

Hoping to see Barnes and Lieberman get plenty of minutes against Western State. Overall, loved the new atmosphere. Get the glitches worked out with the northwest video board and ribbon board and we'll be good-to-go.
