Game Thread: Wyo @ Utah State

That's the problem with the Shyatt scheme. If you get behind by 10 later in the game, you're screwed. There is no alternative offense to get back in, especially if you can't hit your ass with a wad of TP. But my question is this -- the two previous games were squeakers that the Pokes were lucky to pull out. Now the semi-blowout loss. Is this the start of the late season swoon that we have seen in recent years? Maybe Larry should give the boys off till Friday to let them rest and think about things. That would be my solution.

We had four more turnovers than Utah st and both teams put up 50 shots. Utah st made 6 more.

I feel like Adams bad play took any sort of rhythm away from us. I can't believe how many bad turnovers we've had the last few games. We were lucky to win the last couple. Don't forget we were lucky to win at SJSU as well.

Win at CSU and lose at Utah st. Fuck.

Well we do look like we have been getting worse as the conference season has gone on. So my guess is we lose @SDSU, @UNLV, @ UNM for sure. Then who knows if we blow another game at home or not but I could see it happening with the way we are playing.

If Boise beats CSU tonight we will have 7 teams within one game of each other for first place. With the way we seem to be getting worse each game we could end up getting like a 4th, 5th or 6th seed in the conference tournament.

With Nance inside if this team had any semblance of a perimeter game, it would be so deadly. Where's Bradley Mann when we need him?!

csewe beat Nevada by 50 and San Jose st. by 30. We are not capable of that. We are a grind it out, run the shot clock kind of team. We don't shoot the ball that well. Even Nance really has no mid range game to speak of. We are a good team, not a great team. We will lose some more games. So will everyone else.

Every team is going to have a few stinkers. So we had one. It was bound to happen after 2 big efforts in overtime and then a shorter than normal turnaround for this game.

In regard to late season swoons: We were not swooning last year until Nance got hurt. We need the win Saturday and then we have a huge game with csewe. Two wins and I think we are right back in the driver's seat.

I see what you are saying but I along with many others where hoping for a conference title and a ncaa bid. Losses like this hurt in a major way. Not to mention they looked completely awful. I hope coach shyatt reads this. He can't get upset like he did when people where upset after the sdsu loss. This was completely horrid.

This loss does nothing to prevent the Pokes from winning the conference title. It was a bad game. Just like SDSU losing at Fresno, etc. No team is going to go undefeated on the road. We looked like shit, but it was one game. When the night is over, Wyoming will still be in first place. And they will have plenty of opportunity to make up for this loss.

Last year we had Sobey and Granberry. I don't really think this team is as good as last year's team ( before Nance got hurt). Sobey was a really solid player. No one has filled his shoes.

Problem for us is even if we won the conference title we won't get an at large bid into the ncaa tournament if we have like 5 conference losses and a total of 7 losses for the regular season so we will still need to win the mwc tournament.

So it is different for us losing games like this. SDSU and CSU have better non conference resumes so they could afford something like this loss more so than Wyoming and if one of them wins the conference with that many losses they probably still get into the tournament.

So just because we win the regular season title this year doesn't mean jack squat. We would be better off getting 2nd or 3rd and only having 5 total losses for the year then getting first and having 7 losses on the overall record.

Every one needs to calm down. Yeah this was @ bad game, but this won't sink us. We literally couldn't have played worse. Hope we got it all out of our system.

What are you smoking? Losses like this are exactly what prevents you from winning the conference title. Losing to a team that was picked 10th preseason with road games against UNM, SDSU, UNLV, Nevada and Air Force remaining..... I see Wyoming losing anywhere from 3-4 of those games. We will play everyone in the league close from SDSU to SJSU although tonight wasn't even really that close, but playing close is our style. Unfortunately our style also means we live on the razors edge every single night. We won't get any games where we can let our offense cruise to an easy victory over a lesser opponent when maybe someone is having an off night. We need each and every guy to be bringing his A game every night to compete. Unfortunatelys just not possible. We struggle to generate any kind of consistent offense.

Look...I'm an Aggie fan and I'm as shocked as you are about how our season is playing out. Got to finally be honest with myself though, Stew has got these kids playing on a great level and buying into his system. Yeah they got one skinny post and are young as sin but they are the most athletic group he has coached.

Consider this, the Aggies are 2 boneheaded Collette fouls away from being in 1st place in the league. I know they haven't played SDSU and CSU but despite their difficult start and bad early losses they have been in every game they have played this year and are becoming a very tough out. Stew has got to be giddy that he's got a group of young athletes like this buying into his defensive system.

Yeah, they'll lose some games they shouldn't due to youth but they're going to a pain in the ass for everyone in this conference the rest of the way. They're far from also rans who with a decent post recruit and a coach half as good as Stew will give this league a run for its money next year. I say that as a fan thinking we would win 5 games best this year and might beat SJSU once in conference.

Long live Stew, his curtain call is turning out to be a masterpiece.

Damn, that nance miss was big for any chance.

Champions win these games against mediocre teams

Just like #5 SDSU beat us in Laramie last year?
Seriously, it happens. I remember several saying we were going to win the next seven games since Fresno.
I held off on that, and this game was one of the reasons why. USU will challenge anybody in this league at the Spectrum.

We had a shot, and we couldn't get it done, but we get them again in Laramie. And we've only dropped two in the league, hardly terrible.

Everyone acts like were the worst team in the history of basketball after we struggle a little. Yeah, the loss sucks, but the bottom has not fallen out on this season.
After reading treads from the last couple of games a vast majority on here act like we've never won a game this year.

That's because our schedule is so weak that we really can't afford "any" losses if we want to make the NCAA Tourney.

That is functionally over now though, so just enjoy the ride. Still a lot to like about this team and I will enjoy watching the team play the rest of the year.

On the plus side, the program has improved to the point where opposing fans wait until after they beat us before they come to our board and pump up their team. They used to be so assured of victory that they would mock us ahead of time. Baby steps.

I don't think it has anything to do with anyone thinking we are the worst team ever or anything like that. The fact is we have to win the MWC tournament now to get into the NCAA tournament unless we somehow won all but 2 more of our games but that isn't going to happen so it is what it is. So I think it is people just reacting to that fact more than anything as it looked like this might be an NCAA tourney team but now the chances of that happening are very very slim.

Grabau, Adams, and Hankerson cost us this game.

Grabau passed up SO many open 3-point shots. He ended up making a few, including the 80 foot heave, but passed up too many, then either threw the ball away, turned the ball over, or passed it to someone who just missed a shot.

Adams got hacked and flustered and laid an egg. He tried to do too much, and didn't play within himself.

Hank is just in a funk. He didn't do anything particularly bad, just missed his shots.

The team shat themselves. They played scared and didn't look like a team that knows how to take control of a game.

I expect them to turn it around. They will hit their mid-MWC stride like they did last season. We have gotten lucky with 2 OT wins, and are still in first place in the MWC.
We need to figure our crap out, and go on another run.

Pokes need to step up right now. Nevada, CSU, and AFA right now. Wake up and win or kiss this season goodbye.
